Re: Cake Brags
I have bdays coming up in July, Both kids, and Kristins Boyfriend. I am thinking of having my aunt do Bay's, a topsy turvy twilight cake, with a couple of layers. Kristin and the BF will probably have a surprise party, together since their bdays are a week apart, and i don't know what kind of cake I will have her make for them.
I might do them, but it depends on how much i still have going on.

Problem is chelle, the pictures suck. I was not a photographer, we didn't have cameras like we do now, and it'd be scanned from a poor photgraph.

Re: Cake Brags
I still want to see Lucky! I can't take a good picture to save my life and that is with the digital. Then I again I do not photograph well either.
Thanks for the recipe Chelle.
I've used pyrex a few times, I went back and forth between doing a soccer ball or the candy land but she decided for me. They don't get candy often, the boy was up til 2 am totally wired, no doubt from the mountain dew he keep stealing every chance he got from everyone who set them down, next year they are all getting water or milk and will just have to deal with it.

Unfortunately the detail is lost especially in the basket.

Re: Cake Brags
Lucky those were really nice looking cakes. I haven't done a decorated cake in quite a few years. I never bothered to take pics either. I had a friend who's anniversary and her two kids birthdays were all in the same week, she always wanted three cakes all at the same time. Talk about working fast. I have many shaped pans packed away.

Re: Cake Brags
3 cakes in the same week? No thanks!
Thanks for all the nice compliments. I have some better ones, I find I do have to resize them all or they get cut off.
Here's a computer cake for hubby's birthday (oy, back in the day)

Re: Cake Brags
Wow Erin, you done good. You did awesome on the checks... that was my main reason for not wanting to do a soccer ball, lol, I can;t even stay in the lines when I color.
Re: Cake Brags
I noticed the girls.... can I ask why? Hubby says he does not remember computers coming with chicks attached or he totally would have had one sooner, LMAO
Re: Cake Brags

Re: Cake Brags
Well this was in the day of boring computers. Besides we practiced dolls on my class I wanted to see if I could learn to pose them on cakes. You'll see I got better in later cakes I tried. I'll upload a few more tomorrow. I'll post one we made in class just for your hubby.

Re: Cake Brags
I love the computer cake, LOL! Hmmm, maybe the girls were secretaries who were now out of a job? And I like the flower basket, too. Erin, I bet that was a huge hit at the party. I'm getting hungry just looking at it.
You guys are all so talented and I always just go to a bakery. Well, technically we make Caly's cake from scratch but that's cause it's not a cake. It's a cookie triffle. Chocolate cookies (store bought) layered with whipped cream (home made). We add food coloring to the whipped cream and make each layer a different color so the slices look like rainbows. Then stick it in the fridge overnight so the cookies soak up the moisture from the whipped cream and get soft. But... it's Scott and Caly who do that. I just help dump whipped cream on cookies and lick the bowl. And the other kids all wanted real cakes so I just get them at the bakery. But I really think I may try making one this year. It looks like fun.

Re: Cake Brags
kelly, the easiest way to do words and such is a frozen buttercream transfer.
Get your design, copy it so its backwards, (inside out) and then tape wax paper on it. Sit down and pipe on your icing, do it in backwards order. letting it dry between colors.
At least this is what I have been told. Mne never trasnfers all the way, I end up doing the majority of it by hand, BUT, I do get enough on there to give me a guideline..
Some folks freeze it, and I have heard that you should cover the finished product with a layer of icing before you try to dump it on the cake.
I'd do a few trial runs
