okay, this was like the 6th tiara. well it was the 5th. but I put it back together. that was VERY tedius. I then rolled out the purple gumpaste and stuck it to it. It was supposed to just be a gold crown.

The butterfuly is completely edible. the wings are painted gelatin, the body is gumpaste.

The ring is gumpaste and gelatin.
and the tassles are gumpaste. and the dots are piping gel.

Basicly everything is edible. The cake is a 2 layer buttercream iced cake a 11X 15 cut into the shape.

I was very disapointed in the cake. I just couldnt get it to look good.

Are there pictures? I'm so curious. I know that you aren't happy with it, but it sounds Soooo much more complex than what I could do. Just putting jello on my cake was way outside of my comfort zone. I've never tried gumpaste or painted gelatin. I can't imagine how hard that would be.

I was all looking forward to making a cake for Wynonna's birthday coming up next month, but she decided she didn't want cake...she wants a chocolate fountain and every possible thing you can think of to dip in it...I don't know what she thinks I am made of (Monopoly money) lol I don't know yet what I am gonna do. She knows we don't have a whole lot of money to spend, I have everyone on the lookout at garage sales..if we can't get one super cheap, then she is getting cake!

I'd be interested in seeing pics too, I've never attempted anything like that...

Thank you erin. I wish I could post the pics!

Karen, gumpaste is easy.. you just have to make sure its smooth, but its like playdoh.

the gelatin was pretty easy, aside from the one I caught on fire. and handpainting it was kinda fun Smile
(but that might be the vodka speaking... LOL you mix a LITTLE bit of vodka with your paste colors)
Smile

I understand Kelly, this one strapped me and it didnt cost 25.00. LOL

BUT- I do have another cake order!! the baseball glove! Smile

LOL nope. although it might help Smile

you take your paste colors or in the gold case, the gold dust and put it in JUST A LITTLE BIT of vodka. less than a cap ful, and you paint. the vodka disapaites (sp) and it just leaves behind the colors.

Ok girls, I just spent all day at my sisters house and we made a 3 tier fondant cake for her oldest daughter's graduation (well technically she's completed homeschooling so we will be having our own graduation ceremony for her. I will post when my sis e-mails me the pics she took! What a long day it was...

Post by edbson Sun Jun 28, 2009 12:25 am

So, here is mine, and it has a story!

My cousin called me late last night in tears because my Idiot sister had forgotten to order the cake for my younger sisters baby shower. The shower was today at 2.
SO, I ran to the super walmart, got a cake mix, tips, frosting fixins etc. I baked the cake last night and stuck it in the freezer overnight, made the frosting etc early this morning, and got to work. It took me about 2 hours, it's be a while, a long while, but I think it came out decent. LOL it was still frozen in the middle when we cut it.......
