Adorable! You did a great job. Is that bigger than 9x13? It looks it.

Re: Cake Brags
I bet Zoe would love a cake like that. I can't imagine a 4-year old who wouldn't. How did you get the streaks in the mane and tail?
Re: Cake Brags
Very nice chelle...When Wynonna was little, she was infatuated with My Little Pony, she would have loved to have a cake like this!!

Re: Cake Brags
Thank y'all!
Yes, its out of a much larger pan, I broke down and bought a cake pan instead of using my cassarole dish... its 2 11X 14 cakes (I think) that I cut it out of. Its 6 cakes, 3 in each pan.
Streaks in the tail.. I did it in light purple, then I made a MUCH lighter purple, (almost grey) and put it in a bag, I had forgotten to put the white thing for the point in there, so I cut off the tip o the bag really really close to the bottom and it made tenny ribbon like strings. Plus I just took my finger and smeared some on there. LOL Then the dark purple is the piping.
I did the same 'mistake' on the black, and all the colors for the eye. I NEED to get a better picture of the eye. But the lashes are actual little ribbons. OH and the balloon strings are too.
Tara, the green is easter grass. When I was cutting the peices of wax paper out from under the bottom I cut through the peices that were covering the cardboard. Plus I hate the way the cake looks where it meets the base.
I have WAYYYY too much to learn to make them presentable.

Re: Cake Brags
Never got my photo from the camera, but this was scanned from a photo that my SIL took. I didn't crop the corner out, it was just awkward to photograph!

Re: Cake Brags
Oh that is neat Lori! I like the picture cakes although I feel weird when it comes to eating a piece if someones face, lol.
Re: Cake Brags
People loved eating the little Bens. LOL They could figure out what grade he was in in the photo by counting up. And Ben got his face from the Senior photo - I did a little jig to get to it for him.
So I ended up putting the 6 photos on the left side on a sheet, the 6 on the right on another, and the senior photo on the last sheet. It was $6 extra per sheet, but like I said, I ended up getting the cake free because Ben works at that grocery store. The hardest part was lining up all the scanned photos so the right and left sides of the cake would have the same spacing between photos horizontally and vertically.

Re: Cake Brags
That is so cool! It looks perfect, too. I'm always afraid that on a cake that's supposed to be all smooth for the picture, I'd end up with a big glob of frosting in the middle of a face.
Re: Cake Brags
What a nice cake. Looks great, and I bet it was good.

Re: Cake Brags
That is really neat!! its a wonderful cake!
we did the basebal team one year. the team picture. the kids all wanted their own face. 11 8 YO begging and whining about getting a certain pic just drove me to the breaking point. (we were at the skating ring already) I just smeared the pic all over, screweed it up good and told them to pretend they got their own face. LOL

Re: Cake Brags
The volcano smoked more than this at first, but we couldn't get the kids to move back and let us take a picture before it had calmed down a bunch. It was very, very cool. And the dry ice dealer just gave half a cooler of it to us for free. I'm going to send them a thank you card and a copy of the picture.
Re: Cake Brags
That is so cool.
And that was very nice of them to give the ice to you.

Re: Cake Brags
How cool!
How did you get the candle to stand up inside the opening of the volcano? Was it sitting on top of the dry ice?

Re: Cake Brags
I had a shot glass down in there, so I put a wad of aluminum foil in the shot glass to hold the candle, then I put hot water on top of that and added the dry ice just as we brought it out.
Re: Cake Brags
How fun! Looks like a great cake. What is the sandy stuff made of? Brown sugar?

Re: Cake Brags
Check it out:
http://www.cakesandkids.com/kids_cakes_contest.html
I got honorable mention! I actually think that the winner might be a professional. She not only submitted the winning cake, she submitted two of the honorable mentions. Plus she used the exact same backdrop in each picture. Of course it's possible that she took those pictures months apart. Either way I'm not going to worry about it. I'm just happy that the cake turned out well. The main thing is that Caly was happy.

Congratulations, Karen!
Those are some great looking cakes you were competing against. I'm thinking that the winning cake looks like it was done by a professional. That thing is super detailed.
