Re: Cake Brags
This one had the most adorable clowns lazily laying all over the cake with striped outfits, but it just doesn't show in the pic well.

Litter Box Cake

I saw Jono twitter about this cake! I think he's a bit freaked out by it.

Mom's cake
This was one of my fav cakes, made for my mom, after she retired to a condo in FL. She did water aerobics, and the group of ladies had such character I had to enshrine them in icing. If you look closely you can see them on lounge chairs under umbrellas with the flowered swim caps on, and drinks. In the pool I have a couple ladies doing aerobics, with a lady who just dived in, and you only see her legs sticking out. It was one of my most recent cakes.

Re: Cake Brags
Thank you!
This was for my brother, who used to repair VCR's. This is an old top loading style, with remote. I'm sure no one noticed the elephant in the room, he was drunk anyway (the elephant, not my brother!).

Re: Cake Brags
I'm scanning school photos of my high school graduate now. I wanted to have a dozen small photos showing his school career and then a large senior photo on his cake. It's our local supermarket who will be making the cake. I talked to the woman in the bakery and she totally ran with my idea. She has a "vision". LOL I'll let you know how it turns out, it's going to be a full sheet cake, and she plans on decorating it so it's viewed vertically rather than horizontally.

Re: Cake Brags
Sounds like a cool idea. Can't wait to see it.
I still have some more cake pictures to post, but frankly I haven't felt well for a couple weeks due to allergies. Will try to get to them next week.

Re: Cake Brags
Well this isn't the best picture in the world. In real life there's more contrast between the background and the tree leaves. The background is pale green, but not minty. I was going to have fruit roll-up leaves on the banana trees, and if you look close you can see that there are a few, but Quinn ate the fruit roll-ups so I went with frosting instead.
It's for Zaven's 16th birthday. The bananas are runts, and the monkeys are tootsie rolls. If I get time, I'll add a few tootsie roll vines.

Re: Cake Brags
Oh yes. He saw the design in a family fun magazine that I had lying around and asked if I could make it for him. I am not good at cakes, but it came out nice. He's happy.

The bananas were great thinking, until I read how you made them I was thinking, wow, those bananas are perfectly shaped! Good job.

They aren't hard to make, but there's kind of a trick to it. You warm them in your hands and shape them, but if they get too warm they start sagging. So you do it a little at a time, setting them down on a piece of wax paper in the fridge for a few seconds (not minutes or they're hard as a rock again). That way they stay soft enough to mold, but not so soft they melt on you.

Oh, I was using every cheat I could find. I used large tootsie rolls for the tree trunks, colored frosting for everything I could, and of course pre-made bananas. The half-banana is just one that I broke, and it's white inside because that's how the candy is made, LOL.
Re: Cake Brags
Oh, and he's planning on cutting his cake with a machete. We had to make him promise not to cut a monkey in half in front of Zoe, though. She "helped" make them and is very proud. In fact, she helped with most everything, which is kind of why it isn't more clean and neat around the edges.
Re: Cake Brags
I love the trees!! Awesome I never would have thought to use tootsie rolls for the trunks, they look really good..the bananas and the monkey are cute

Re: Cake Brags
Well, we finally found one little pack of fruit roll ups that had escaped Quinn's attention so we added palm leaves to the trees and the kids made coconuts and pineapples and vines, too. Here's the final version.
