Re: My Husband
Trax, how is your husband doing now? Is he home yet, or is there any word on when he may be able to go home to you? I've been thinking of you both, praying for his speedy recovery.

Re: My Husband
I finally was able to speak with my husband. He is progressing everyday, everyday he gets stronger. Tonight, hopefully they will be removing his tubes. He has been up walking and is in stable condition in a permanent ward. My husband has yet to see his doctor and hopefully that will happen soon. I anticipate by Thursday he should know when he can return home. He is edgy to get home, but I do not want him home until the doctor has said it is a safe to do so and gives him an instruction sheet for us to follow.
The one greatest thing with my husband being hospitalized is he quit smoking! Now it is my turn...(thank god for nicorette).
We live in a rural area, so I received quick lessons on fire building. It scares the hell out of me. Today the volunteer fire department man came and instructed me. I wasn't doing anything wrong, I just panic and think I am doing everything wrong.
My husband today on the telephone asked how was I doing building the fires - I replied, nothing but the best - because I knew if I told him I panic, he would worry.
Last but not least if we do not see some signs of spring soon, I am going to upchuck. I am so sick and tired of shovelling snow. I am also tired of hauling wood and making fire. But that is life and I do what I have to do.
Thank you all for your caring, understanding support, it is very much appreciated.

Re: My Husband
I'm so glad he is improving Trax, i hope he is well enough to be home soon. Fire can be scary, nothing wrong with getting some knowledgeable help.
Re: My Husband
I'm so happy to hear he's doing well. I have to build fires too, but I enjoy it. I don't enjoy the hauling of the wood, though. Hopefully spring will come soon to welcome him home.
Re: My Husband
Thats great that he is improving so quickly!!
THings seem to be looking up!! I hope he can come home soon, and then you can impress him iwht your newfound ability to build a fire!!

Re: My Husband
Last night, my husband had all his tubes removed. He is able now to take liquids. Progress is really good, maybe this weekend he will be able to return home.

Re: My Husband
That is great Trax, it must be awful to be without him. I hope it's smooth sailing from here on out.
Re: My Husband
I hope he does get to come home this weekend. Again, get plenty of rest now while you can. People who have had sugeries can tend to turn nasty to their caregivers at a certain point. When my dad had heart surgery the whole family was warned about that by the medical staff. All of us, but pointedly my mom. He ended up not being bad at all, but each case is different.

Re: My Husband
Thats great news!!!
Is the hospital very far? How is the weather doing there? Will you be able to drive up to get him? (we are getting a cold front here, maybe our last of the year.... LOL, But we will have bad rains all weekend. )
(you've said you are very rural, so I didnt know he was flown way out of the area for surgery)

Re: My Husband
The hospital is located a 2 1/2 hour drive, half is spent descending from a mountain side. Prior to my husband hospitalization, we arranged delivery and pick up. The sons.
I am the wicked step mother, I am jazzing. I am not wicked person, remember this is the person that wanted John Prine as an avatar.
Actually, I, today spoke to my step son who wanted to know when he should be picking up Dad. Unfortunately, I had to tell a few more hours we are looking at, may 48, 72...but if it comforts you I could say 2 or 3 days...we laughed.

Re: My Husband
I heard once that wood fires are the most economical because they heat you more than one time....they heat you when you cut the wood, they heat you when you haul the wood, then they heat you when you burn the wood. LOL

That's true, it certainly has the added health benefit of manual labor.
Re: My Husband
I agree. Try getting a hot flash when you hauling wood. Trust me, you drop the fn wood, rip off what it is you are wearing (the temperature is beyond freezing - don't matter - rip it off - get the clothes off), regain...and then say, what the hell was I doing. Pick up the scarf, the parka, regain, pick up and softly say, oh yes...wood.

Re: My Husband
Taking fluids is definitely a good sign! Hopefully you'll get the call to have him picked up really soon!
Re: My Husband
I was so glad to hear your hubby came through the surgery so well. My husband also has the same problem but they don't want to do surgery quite yet- they say it isn't large enough yet. I know he worries about it every day. My prayers and thoughts are with you and your husband.

Re: My Husband
Idatater, if I may ask - how old is your husband? This is being monitored, closely? My husband was told he was sitting on a bomb. Even in a hospital if this was to burst, his survival was 50/50. I do not mean to raise any issues for you, your husband, your family.
I guess it depends what size the bulge is, what the age of the person is, whether health is good or not.
My husband is 63 in relatively good health. We did not see this coming, we were never informed of a malfunction. Trust me, I would rather have gone through some wardrobe malfunction like Janet Jackson had than this.
Humor does goes along way.
