Re: Daughter is sick..
I still can not unhook my jaw from the floor! I thought $200 for my antibiotic was a lot! Thank goodness for insurance!! I am going to keep her in my thoughts and prayers!!

Re: Daughter is sick..
We ended up in the ER from the late hour of 11:30 on the night of the 3rd until 4:30 in the morning on the 4th. She was in so much pain. We brought her in and they did bloodwork, xrays, and gave her 2 bags of IV solution because she was so dehydrated, they also gave her 1 bag of IV antibiotics. They found out that her intestines were even more inflamed then a few days before. They prescribed her enough pain meds to cover her until tonight. If this antibiotic doesn't start making a significant change and she is still in pain tonight I don't know what to do. The ER Dr said that bySat night the Vicocin should be working enough that she shouldn't be in as much pain. He said that if there isn't a change by tonight then I will need to call someone and that she should go back in Monday. So this is where we are at, I am so frustrated....

Re: Daughter is sick..
Oh poor thing, I am so sorry for her and for you having to see her in so much pain. I hope she starts feeling less pain really soon.
Re: Daughter is sick..
WOW, hopefully they will figure it out soon. I hate it when kids are sick, and Dr's cannot figure out what to do.

Re: Daughter is sick..
She's still sick, but not as bad as she has been. She actually got out of bed for 2 hours yesterday and ate 4 crackers and a half cup of rice. It doesn't sound like much but when you take into account the fact that she has not had anything but water, gatorade, milk, and ginger ale for the past 7-8 days then it's better. I have to make an appointment for later this week for her Dr to tell me what they plan on trying next..

Re: Daughter is sick..
I'm so glad she is doing a little better, I assume that means the poor girl is in much less pain. Good luck on finding something to do for her that works and is lasting, she is still in my thoughts.
Re: Daughter is sick..
I'm so sorry I made it to this thread late.
You are a very well informed mom though, and I'd say all the advice everyone gave was good stuff.
The CT scans will ensure that she doesn't have a perforation ...... that's the only thing that hasn't been ruled out yet I think.
C-diff is a difficult bug to get sometimes, it rund rampid in nursing homes and hospitals too.
You're taking great care of her keep up the good work!

Re: Daughter is sick..
Ughh..well the Vicocin (the $944.00 med) does not seem to be working. They said we should notice a huge difference within 2 days of taking this stuff and it's been about a week. Today her color (if you call it that) was almost grey. I am taking her in first thing in the morning and I am going to see if the Doc will admit her. Atleast if she is hooked up to IV fluids I will be sure that she is getting enough hydration and I won't worry as much about that. I just don't know what to do anymore. I have been doing everything the way I am supposed to hoping that she will get better, but it just seems to be getting worse. I feel bad because I have been getting crabby. I am just wiped from not sleeping. I have been taking temp every hour on the hour throughout the night for the last week or more and making sure she gets her midnight meds. When she finally rests then I have to get the stuff done that I couldn't do while taking care of her, and still getting severely behind on housework and stuff. Both kids were also going to summer school, but she will have to drop out from missing too much time, but my son still has to go. There is only one of me since hubby cannot miss work (he is the only income) and I cannot be two people. Just really stressed and frustrated...had to vent

Re: Daughter is sick..
Kelly, I am so sorry for you all. I know that she is hurting, and that you and your husband and son are exhausted and worried sick. I would be frantic if this were my child.
From someone on the outside looking in, let me give one bit of advice. Ask for help from friends, family and neighbors. See if someone can take a turn getting up with her, or can pick up a hefty bag full of your dirty laundry and bring it home clean and folded. If you have a church, see if they have a program to bring you meals for a few days. Buy paper plates and plastic cups and don't do dishes. Don't make the bed, sleep in it. And don't be ashamed that you can't deal with a serious illness and keep a perfect house at the same time. I can't keep a clean house even when nothing is wrong! The house will wait. You need to rest.

Re: Daughter is sick..
You sound wiped! I hope your hubby and son at least help out when they're home. And I agree -- the housework can wait, and do a few extra take out or ready made meals if you can. There's enough going on right now, you don't need to feel guilty about falling behind on the housework!
Re: Daughter is sick..
I agree. Get help from friends and family if you can. Just take care of your children and your self. Housework can wait.
Good luck with the DR. I hope that they can find the right meds for her. *hugs*

Re: Daughter is sick..
OH Kelly .. I'm so sorry! I agree, if you attend church, find out if people can bring you dinners. I do hope something gets solved... it IS draining when our children are sick & hurting.
wish I was closer
Kelly, if I were closer to Caribou, I'd come help, but I'm way southwest in York County.
I'll pray for you (hope it doesn't offend you)

Re: Daughter is sick..
Kelly, I am so sorry. I cant imagine being calm about this, you are holding together great. You really are. And belive me, your son and husband understand when you snap at them, and tht the house is a little messy. I agree with Karen, I wouldnt worry about any of it . Heck, mine looks like a tornado went through it all the time. You need to take sometime for yourself. I know you cant. BUT instead of doing the dishes, ask your son to do them and go take a hot bath. DONT clean the damn bathroom while you are in there, just turn the lights low, light a few candles and squint your eyes alot.
and please do take her to the Dr. or find a differnt doctor. Please. I really cant imagine how stressed you are right now. and no huge improvement is killing you deep down. You cant go on with out something happeneing.
I agree ask family, friends, anyone, to help you alittle. They willunderstand. And probebly feel bad that they didnt offer it to start with. I know I would.
Hugs and Prayers, for you and your daughter.

Re: Daughter is sick..
I am hoping that she has her daughter getting some care. I am sure she is. I hope they can find something to help her out.
Re: Daughter is sick..
I bet her daughter got admitted and she's just busy spending lots of time at the hospital with her. Hopefully the next update is that she's on the mend!
Re: Daughter is sick..
I'm bumping this up and reminding everyone to say a prayer for them. I'm very worried because I think she would have let us know if things had improved.
Re: Daughter is sick..
They have been in my prayers. I keep checking in for an update, but am getting worried as well since there hasn't been one in awhile.
