Re: Daughter is sick..
Don't give up on the medication- I am sure if you contact a group, they can help you to get it. I am getting all my meds that way because we have no insurance. Also, Is there a St Vincent near you - they can help with scripts too. If you have to, contact your senators and representatives- anything you can do like that. Have you Dr contact the insurance personally in your behalf. My thoughts are with you- call the hospital and ask for the social worker there- they are set up to help with things like this.

Re: Daughter is sick..
I have had your daughter in my thoughts. So glad you are all home. i wish you luck and hope that things work out. The other ladies have some wonderful advice, and I hope that they all help you out.
Re: Daughter is sick..
Good to hear your home!
I'm sure both you and your daughter will recover better in your own beds
Try www.google.com/products and type in florastor to see if you can find the cheapest place online to buy it .....
I looked for help from the company, but since it isn't a pharamcutical, there's nothing about helping those who need it
I did read that ALOT of people on an iBS board found relief with it though.
Best of luck you guys!

Re: Daughter is sick..
Try Costco Pharmacy and see what their online prescriptions will offer. Except for a couple of meds, their costs are like 10% of the normal costs. It looks like you don't have one in Maine but they do have online options. If you are not familiar with Costco, it's like a BJ or Sam's Club.
There are a lot of options for children who need assistance when they are ill. I would try what Beachybum said about googling.

Re: Daughter is sick..
Kelly, I am SOOO glad you are home. And I hope all of this stuff helps. I always used to hate fighting with the insurance companies over every little thing. They try to intimidate you into NOT being sick. Thats one plus of not having insurance. NOw I only have to fight with the hospital.. LOL
I will have to see what I can find. And you are welcome for the card. I am just sorry I wasnt able to something more cheerful together. I was afraid y'all would come home before I got it sent out.
I am sorry that freecycle didnt come through. And with school starting you will need alot. But dont worry about all of that right now. Just try to sit back and relax for a day or so. The bills will be there forever. Your sanity might not. I hope you are getting some sleep, and I am sure that your husband and son are very glad to see you!!

Re: Daughter is sick..
I'm so glad you guys are finally home! I'm sure you will work it out! All the supplements your doctor is recommending are great for intestinal distress. I know really good probiotics are expensive, but talk to your doctor and find out if there are any less expensive alternatives. I think it would really make a difference for your daughter!!!

Re: Daughter is sick..
I think I can help w/ the clothes. I have to run Zaven to the Dr. (annual allergy appt.) but I'll be back on tonight and we'll figure something out.
Re: Daughter is sick..
Thats very sweet of you, thank you. I was a little embarrased to ask about used clothes, its just that until we can get a foothold on shifting the money due to the unforssen expenses due to her illness it will be 3-4 months and school starts the mid/end of Aug. So I kind of have to start looking for clothes for the kids now. After the first of the year we should be close to getting back to normal and in Feb, ny husband should get some money from profit sharing which should put us totally back on track. I am posting a pic of her.

Re: Daughter is sick..
Kelly, I'm back and have some ideas that may help. First off, go to your local social services department and apply for a medical card for her. I know, she has insurance, you have resources, etc. But she's a minor and if her medical bills exceed your household income for the month, you should qualify for a "spend down" medical card, meaning you've spent your income level down to the normal qualifications. So go in to their offices the first thing in the morning. Don't call. Go in. Bring as much info on your financial situation as possible. Bring in pay stubs for you and your husband, social security cards for everyone in the family, proof of where you live and what you pay for rent or if you own your home, utility bills, and as much of the medical bills as you can document. Be prepared for a wait, but tell them you need to apply and make the application that day, because they backdate from the day of the application and you need it backdated as far as possible. It shouldn't matter that she has insurance because they can cover kids who have insurance. Just bring her insurance card with you.
As to the clothes, I think I have some that may fit. Can you PM me her measurements? Waist and chest should be enough since most of the sizes are standard.

Re: Daughter is sick..
Thanks Karen, the kids do both already have MaineCare which is insurance provided by the State of Maine. They have it because their real father is what they deem an "absent parent" and refuses to pay child support. THe problem we were having with the prescriptions is that MaineCare refused to pay for the Florastor because it is considered an over the counter med, we did get them to pay for the pain patch though because I did some calling and there was a generic for it, so they filled that prescription. What put us under was all the other OTC stuff the doctor wanted us to get, along with gas/meal expenses for when we had to come home and $ for meals and supplies during the time I was down there. I plan on working a seasonal job in late Sept, but haven't been able to work any type of job at all since Feb because of all the Dr appts, lab visits, ER visit when this whole thing started, I would have been fired 20 times by now for missing so much time. Now that we are back she has a Remicade treatment Fri for 2 hours, a appt with her PCP next week and lab bloodwork someitime next week and the week after that she has another Remicade treatment, my son has counseling once a week due to issues from his real father. I have been trying to get a job working from home, but most transcription jobs require high speed internet, which we can't get because cable doesn't come out this far. I feel like an idiot because I don't want people thinking that I am a charity case, just a regular person who ended up in a crappy unexpected situation.

Re: Daughter is sick..
Girl, noone thinks you are a charity case. We are mostly all one catastrophe away from total brokedness.. or at least I am. Heck, I dont even have insurance, when my kids got that skeeter borne illness a few weeks ago it really put me behind on everything. The Dr alone wanted 130.00 per kid just to see them. That doesnt include anything but hight, weight and sitting in his office for 5 hours. Lab work was extra. LOL
Your right, the extra expenses that come from, not only the OTC meds, but the living expenses that you have to deal with are what will get you. THey can eat you alive. Dont ever feel bad that you got in a bind. We can all understand, I know I can.

Re: Daughter is sick..
Gosh, no one thinks of you as a charity case- we all have something like this happen to us during our lifetime and if we don't, we better count our blessings. I know exactly what you mean, we have had so many medical bills for my husband and now with the heart attack bills. Let everyone who can help you do it, they will get a blessing for doing so. I still would find out the manufactureer of the probiotic you need and call them. Tell them your story and see if they can work something out. I bet they would be willing to work with you- after all, they can write the expense off.
Can you pm me with some measurements or sizes- I have several grandaughters about her age and I know they have some nice clothing just sitting in their closets.

Re: Daughter is sick..
Charity case makes it sound bad. I don't know what you believe but I always thought that we were SUPPOSED to be charitable to one another. Charity is a virtue, and how the heck am I supposed to try to be virtuous if no one needs me to be charitable? Prudence and temperence aren't my strong suits.
Re: Daughter is sick..
We may have some good news, Dr Integlia's office called before closing today and the serology results came back from California and they aren't indicative of an IBD (Irritable Bowel Disease) this *may* mean that she does not have colitis or Crohns but that the C difficile was so severe that it triggered her immune system into overdrive and it started attacking her intestine and intestinal lining and caused all the damage. The Dr still wants her to continue with the Remicaid treatments over the next 6 months and go down for another scope at that time but he should be able to give a definite answer at that time.
