Picture of my daughter
In another thread I mentioned that my daughter, Tory (Victoria), was in Time magazine's Dec 17, 2007 issue. I don't have the magazine yet, I have it on order. However, I do have some shots form the event and I told Dee I would post one. This is from a speech at her college last Dec. She attends Cornell College in Mt Vernon Iowa. She is on the far left, in the front. She has blond hair with part of it died black.

So cool! Later I want everyone's opinion on who to vote for. I'm not just curious, I'm undecided and trying to make up my mind. I'm hoping someone will come up with a very persuasive argument so I can leave my political limbo.
Re: Picture of my daughter
I have been on the fence too, Karen. Usually by now I am campaigning for someone..
This time its been hard.
I recently made a decision though.. donated a few dollars and will make some phone calls when the time comes.
This is going to be an important election...
I wish I had been there to hear that speech by Obama!

Re: Picture of my daughter
She is a freshman, so she hasn't declared her major yet. She did think she wanted to teach chemistry, but that could change to teaching English. The cool thing about her college is that they are a one course at time school. She takes 9 courses during the year, but just one at a time. One class for 3.5 weeks, then a 4 day break and start a new class. It is called the block system, and there are only a few schools that teach this way. She is loving it because she puts a lot of pressure on herself and this way she is isn't overly stressed out. For the most part anyway, she still stresses some, that is just the perfectionist in her.

Re: Picture of my daughter
Honey, I've never even heard of the block system, but it sounds like it would have some real advantages, depending on the type of student you were. My oldest would do very well with something like that, but my 11 year old needs time to soak knowledge in. She never gets things right away, and only weeks or months later will suddenly click with it and be ahead of everyone instead of behind. She's smart, but she needs time to absorb.

I have never heard of the block system either .. but it sounds like it would be perfect for a lot of kids...
great idea!
great idea!
Re: Picture of my daughter
If I was in a class that I was really interested in I would love the block concept. There are always a few that you need to take though you'd rather not. Immersing yourself in the uninteresting subjects for that long might drive me crazy - or might manage to change my mind about the subject. It's a really interesting concept. And one that I've never heard of before.
Great photo of a very lucky lady!

I have never heard of block classes either, but I like the sound of it. One subject at a time, lets you really put all your effort into it and seems like the outside work would be more manageable too.
As for who to vote for....I could put up an argument for both. I went back and forth so many times... I still haven't made up my mind, lol, but I voted back in Feb. decided on Clinton at the last minute, it almost came down to eeny meeny miny mo.

Re: Picture of my daughter
Well crap! The magazines I ordered arrived today, but she is not really in the picture. I can see her arm and part of her foot, but the picture crops most of her off. She said her friends told her she was in it, but I know my baby and she isn't there wah wah

Re: Picture of my daughter
How sad! It's even worse because she probably got all excited. Tell her that she made a stir here at the least. And really, this place is way more cool than some stuffy old news magazine.
Re: Picture of my daughter
That's unfortunately, especially since you went to the trouble and cost of ordering those back issues. But at least you've got some digital pictures.
GO OBAMA ! (sorry, couldn't resist a little political plug here)

Re: Picture of my daughter
Dee, why don't you start a "Why I like Obama" thread, and someone else can do a Hillary and McCain. I'm not joking. I really do want to hear why people are voting the way they are. What issues do you feel he is strong on, what things are important to him that are also important to you, what's his voting record and accomplishments? Most of the people I talk to around here are either undecided, or going on instinct, and neither of those is working for me.
Re: Picture of my daughter
I think I will ask her if any of friends that are in the picture, want these issues I bought. That way I won't have wasted the money. She was really excited and is sad now. however, not only do we have the pictures from the event, she still got to attend the event and has precious memories. She got to shake his hand too.

How about "Why I DON'T like Hilliary thread instead!?" I like Obama, and I do hope he gets the nomination, but honestly, the real reason is because I despice Clinton so much!
No, but you've got a point. I'll start 3 threads... and let anyone say what they want. Good idea, will do right now.

Well it's been a while, and we've had several agents online since, but no one is posting on the I support "fill in the blank" threads... I'm thinking that a lot of people don't like letting the world know, which is fine... I dont' have a problem telling folks I'm a Yellow Dog Democrat, and yes, I would even vote for Clinton, should she end up being the nominee for the Democrats - GASP - and that I'm a member of my county's local Democratic Women's Club... and that I proudly put yard signs in my front yard! I've always been a rebel..
Heck, when I was a youngster (tee hee) I even went to DC to protest the Viet Nam War... boy, was my brother pissed at me! But that's a whole nother chapter of my life.

I didn't add my 2 cents because I don't exactly get a vote in your election!

Re: Picture of my daughter
I Like Clinton... but I like Obama too. Pros and Cons to both. Either one of those two will get my vote in November. I can tell you why I am NOT voting for McCain, lol. However the whole conversation might send the silent newbies running, on the other hand it might have them posting with a vengeance, lol.
Re: Picture of my daughter
I'm posting my thought on all three in their own threads, but there's a lot I don't know, so don't be offended. Overall, there are a lot of good things about all three and I'm pretty pleased with them all.
