Easter Plans?
What's everyone doing for Easter? Any big plans?
We'll probably have a nice low key Easter. I work tonight and tomorrow night so I'll be sleeping Good Friday and part of Saturday. After that I start holidays, but I think the most exciting thing we'll be doing is going to my parents' place for supper.

Re: Easter Plans?
Dinner at home.... and we've invited a family who live in the hood... Mom & two kids (12 & 9). Her husband is deployed and they recently moved from CA... so no family here. We've sort of adopted them. I have little Easter boxes of goodies for the kids (like decorated Chinese take out).
Once in a while, I actually do the cooking and Sunday is my day!

Re: Easter Plans?
The unfortunate thing about living so close to both my family and his... holidays suck, lol. They are always such a rush, first we have to go to breakfast with my family and then dinner with his... doesn't sound like a lot but it's exhausting. I would love to host just one meal and stay home but they don't like each other and will come up with any excuse under the sun as to why we should host two separate dinners. I refuse so I'll continue to let them do all the work and sit back while they bitch about who we spent more time with. Since you know we live 15 minutes away.... it could be years before they have the opportunity to see us again. Christmas is even worse... three Christmases I know that sounds bad to say but truth is it just confuses the heck out of my daughter and we don't get 5 minutes to just relax.
Re: Easter Plans?
Tara, my folks and my mother-in-law all live in the same town, an hour and fifteen minutes away. So we do that same hoop jumping, only more drive time. But they've actually all started getting along and there seems to be less jealousy over the past five years. But I would love to just have some stay at home holidays.
As for Easter, it's the year of insanity. This month has been nothing but chaos because my mother-in-law has had a series of health crisises (two heart catheterizations) and all our spare time has been spent out of town. What I NEED to do this weekend is catch up on all the things that fell apart while we were dealing with that. I have a ton of laundry, dishes, etc. You can't even walk through the mess without tripping. But... my birthday is Saturday, Sunday is Easter, but it's also our Anniversary, and Monday is my husband's birthday. We normally just have a big party and one cake on our birthdayversary. But then again, we usually spend the weeks before cleaning the house and making it suitable for company. So no party at our house. And since it's also Easter, we're going to visit family. Which means, our birthdays will be spent chasing babies through non-baby-proofed houses, trying to do the baskets and the cakes and the family visits without the kid's sugar highs causing a meltdown in the middle of a family meal, and our anniversary gift will be about 14 loads of waiting at home for us. Sigh! But I'm planning on telling my family that I can't do anything over spring break because we're going on a trip to Detroit. And then we'll just hide at home all week and not answer the phone.

Re: Easter Plans?
LOL on hiding at home. Wow you do have a busy weekend ahead! Happy Early birthday (I'll say that now because I wont remember come Sat, heck I'll be happy if I just know it's Sat on Sat) and happy anniversary too! I get stuck every couple years sharing my birthday with mothers day..... I hate it- I want my own day, lol. We have been married 4 years with no sign of the mother in laws making any effort at learning to get along... dads get along great. We just cross our fingers to get through birthday parties and count down teh minutes until it's over.

Dee, most of the family and friends call me Dee (or DD) and some even call me by my given, Diane... so whatever you want to call me, I'll answer... just don't call me "hey you"

Sort of off track, but my birthday is the 11th of Feb. Valentine's day, is of course, Feb 14th. And my wedding anniversary is also Feb. 14th.
When Chuck proposed, before accepting, I told him, specifically, that never could he combine the 3 events with 1 card or 1 gift... and in more years than most of you have been alive, he's obliged me, each special event gets it's owns card/gift. I'm definitely blessed.
But makes for an awfully long wait unti Christmas comes around

That's so nice! I've always encouraged Scott to do the opposite. We usually go to a movie on each day, or out to eat with just the two of us, and he always gives me gifts for both my birthday and our anniversary, but I told him early on that there was no way I was cleaning up after three parties three days in a row. Too much work, and too hard to get the kids to calm down after that much cake. But even with both of us working to keep it quiet, it still escalates. His mom always wants to get a cake for each of us, because we each need to have an entire cake that's our favorite kind, and of course the kids want it to be big and boisterous and a full on event each day. This is the first year we've had it fall on Easter, and I can't figure any way out of any of it, but I figure it's better to get it all over with then go hide. Sounds silly, but my idea of a perfect birthday involves my PJs, a good book, and if I'm really energetic, a hot bath.
Re: Easter Plans?
Apparently, this Easter I will be busy turning 81. I was unpacking the cake baking supplies my kids picked out, and discovered number candles, a one and an eight. Since I'm not turning 18, am I already 81 and just didn't notice?
Actually, they probably meant to add my candles (39) to Scott's (44) and put on our joint age. But together we'll turn 83, so they're a few years off. And if you add in the anniversary (18 ), we're turning 101!!! It must be Bzz math. But I finally convinced them to get me what I really want: wrapping paper. I love wrapping presents (it's a sicknes of mine) and I love pretty wrapping paper. So they bought new paper to wrap their gifts for us, and are wrapping up the leftover tubes of paper, too. So sweet, these babies of mine.

Karen, the candles are for your anniversary - 18.
Sorry, I wasn't supposed to tell but you dragged it out of me.

How did I miss that? You're so smart... and so early in the morning, too!
Re: Easter Plans?
Hope everyone has a great holiday! Won't be much going on here, just hubby and me. We have no family in this state. My oldest daughter and her husband moved to Miami last summer. My youngest daughter won't be home from college in Iowa, until spring break starts next week. I sure do miss my girls, so I am looking forward to spring break big time!

Re: Easter Plans?
Kath, Honey, hope your holiday went well even without your kids. I have four at home (14, 11, 3, and 18 mos.) and my favorite part of the holiday weekend was just spending a little time with them. I hope that you will get to have that with yours soon. And in the meantime, you'll just have to settle for spending time with me!
Re: Easter Plans?
Hubby and I had a nice quiet day. Talked to the girls on the phone. It was raining on one and snowing on the other lol. I look forward to spoiling my youngest next week, She will be home Wed night. She already put in some dinner menu requests

Re: Easter Plans?
I love it here... I kept eying my mothers laptop yesterday thinking I just want to see if anyone is around... lol. I was good though, no internet all day. My kids (yup both of them despite the littlest being 8 months and having two teeth) got enough candy to send a horse into a coma. Now I'm guarding it with my life until hubby goes to work and takes most of it with him. I thought Halloween was the candy holiday. My daughter was WIRED all day, she was good right up to an all out record setting melt down at 7 30 when she didn't want to take off her chocolate covered dress. I lost all my patience and wrestled her out of it and left her screaming.... I didn't make it back down the stairs before she passed out.
I haven't sat down to read a good book since the night before my son was born, lol. I can only read if I have a couple hours to finish the book, I read fast but if I do it while the kids are around- they get ignored, and I get annoyed. My mom takes my daughter almost every weekend- I keep hoping someday she will take the boy child for at least a few hours too.....
