Thanksgiving Plans?
What are yours?
We are going to my Aunt's house,( the crazy one) for dinner. I am cooking one of the Turkeys, and a corn casserole, and something Gluten/Phenylalanine free. My nephew has PKU, so is limited in his diet( no protein, no gluten). I have a Cucumber salad recipe that he loves, and can eat tons of, so I will probably go with that. Only about half the family is going to be there this year, so only about 50 or so of us....a small group by our standards. Bayley wants to make her "pumpkin chocolate chip cookies" they are pretty good, and I figure if she bakes cookies then I don't have to make a pie.

Re: Thanksgiving Plans?
50 people? OMG, I could never do that kind of crowd, even if I liked all my family LOL
For us, just the 2 of us... it will be simple at home fare. I was going to roast a whole chicken... but we talked more today, and now have decided to just back some chicken breasts (bones and skin on which makes good drippings for gravy)... yukon gold mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, stovetop, and some sort of veggie... I had planned to make a pumpkin pie, but since we just finshed the one our neighbor brought over a few days ago, decided (well mostly me) that we don't need dessert.... DH's gallbladder has been acting up again and we're pretty sure he doesn't need the sugar/eggs that come with pumpkin pie, or even apple.
I would be just as happy with pizza and salad.... but again, pizza is probably not a good thing for him.
Sucks when you have no family nearby... and all your friends/neighbors do!

Re: Thanksgiving Plans?
This year we will do a small dinner with my family... me, hubby, kids, my baby brother and my parents. Then off to see gramma at the nursing home and then we will go to dinner number two at my MILS, more people there but still less than 20. I know it's the whole point but I HATE big crowded dinners. No where to sit... you go to get your slice of pie only to find all 10 pies are already gone. Everyone talking over each other, can't move without climbing over 16 people.... Thankfully my mother agrees and stopped inviting everyone years ago.
I love that I don't have to cook but it sucks because we don't have leftovers... so this year we had the whole deal LAST week and we are good and sick of leftovers already. I just have to pick up a couple turkeys for my freezer for the rest of the year.

I don't like the big dinners either, but this will be small by our standards....we always have enough food, usually leftovers....I always make a pie or two for after also.

Re: Thanksgiving Plans?
I have no idea what we're doing yet,as far as I know it's only going to be the 3 of us,so either we'll order or we'll go out to a restaurant

Re: Thanksgiving Plans?
It's just me and my kitty.
Last year I did a turkey breast, but this year I've had no luck at all finding either a reasonably priced breast or a sale turkey that doesn't require a $25-35 purchase of other stuff to qualify for the discount. I'm already over budget (again) this month for food, so I may just dig out something from my freezer instead.
My neighbor always has a huge crowd for T-day and Xmas and makes up a "sampler plate" of stuff and brings it over after their dinner is over, so at least I'll (and the kitty) get a small taste of turkey and ham and goodies.

Re: Thanksgiving Plans?
I guess we're a go for MIL's this year. She's going to be especially emotional this year. Her brother has been in the hospital since last Monday and he may or may not be coming home this week, but she's very upset about the whole situation. She feels he should be put into a home and that his wife is just too cheap to do it.

Re: Thanksgiving Plans?
That's so hard Lori! The homes are really expensive, especially here.Someone I know is paying 60,000 a year for his mother.Tough decisions!

Re: Thanksgiving Plans?
I know it's expensive. We pay over $75,000 for Grandma. $210 per day for a double room. Plus what it costs to get her hair done once a week and Rx costs. MIL is just too upset to realize that every situation is different. It's easier to say "put him in a home" than to think about their reality, I think. Anyhow, I love DH's aunt and I'm tired of hearing her cut down. She's a sweetie.

Re: Thanksgiving Plans?
We're having around 15 people over for thanksgiving...its usually at least 20, but not this year.
I'm not looking forward to it at all... I have a major paper due on saturday(that I can't start till the professor emails me back) and I've been bummed because my cousin just left on sunday for his 2nd deployment...
