Thoughts & Prayers for bizzeedee's dh
Hey everyone, I just wanted to pass along that Diane's dh is in the hospital. It sounds like he's getting the best possible care and will be ok, but he's in rough shape at the moment.
Re: Thoughts & Prayers for bizzeedee's dh
Thoughts are with Diane/family and friends. Hugs to all.

Re: Thoughts & Prayers for bizzeedee's dh
OMG you gals are awesome. Yes, Chuck had a stroke (not his first according to me and his MRI which we saw). 911 call took us to our local hospital where many tests were done and the oncall Doc "saw/read" stroke, so sent us to a stroke hospital in Nashville 65 miles and horrible traffic. I followed the ambulance and even they told me they stick with the speed limit, they were driving 80 mph most of the time... not my comfort zone! I stayed over the first night and returned Mon and home Mon night; back today, and to my surprise sent him home around 4:30. We had a parade of doctors, tests and talks. High BP is a problem --- meds and diet; 70 and 50% blocked arteries --- meds again. Cholestrole high -- meds. I think those were the major issues. We have follow ups with Neurosurgeon because they're thinking stints if the blood thinners don't cut it. And we have a new walker in the house (gosh insurance paid for it !) and 6 scripts... two follow up visits with docs at the hospital (geesh another couple of harrowing drives -- TN drivers are fearless and reckless) Home rehab/PT and then we can go to our local doc (mine which works with geriatric peeps and Chuck has never been too) But for now, I've got a new job "full time" time care taker . Thanks Rebecca for posting.... I'm feeling so much love and hope between here and FB I'm astounded... and now I'm crying.... because that's what I do a lot of these days.

Don't cry Dee! Everything will be fine! I'm so happy he's out of the hospital!!!! They know what needs to be done and it sounds like a great hospital. We love you! I'm so glad you have insurance too! Physical therapy is the key to getting him moving as he was .We've been through everything medical in my family.Hit by a car, cancer, brain tumor, hernia, heart attacks.Make sure his doctor is a specialist. Most general practitioners just take your bp and send you on your way.You need someone who will monitor him well.Keep us posted! xoxo

Glad to hear he's home and everything is set up for the two of you to get help at home. Early intervention is so important and it sounds like there are going to be plenty of people to help both of you.
Re: Thoughts & Prayers for bizzeedee's dh
Rehab center didn't call today so called the nurses station in Nashville... supposedly the are to contact us tomorrow, but if not, I'm to call the hospital back.... Today has been stressful for both us.. made a quick trip to the store to pick up scrip's and healthy foods, but gosh darn, forgot the baby aspirin (which is no longer called that but there is a super low dosage aspirin. So went back to Walmart (it's only 2 miles from home so not a biggy); cooked and served healthy foods.... but there were times today that reminded me Men are the worst Patients (you might agree Rebecca)... didn't want to take his prescribe meds. I got a phone call this morning that a good friend of mine in MI husband died (it was expected) and so have had that on my mind and I yelled "Sally's husband died this morning, I don't want to be posting on FB that you died too" and I cried, are you surprised? Wall guess what? he's taking the scrips :-) trying to get him an appointment at my doctors office. Elizabeth is not taking new patients, but another doctor is... haven't heard back whether he'll take Chuck, but in the meantime, I sent an email to doc Elizabeth and asked to please reconsider taking on Chuck. She specializes in Geriatric care.

Re: Thoughts & Prayers for bizzeedee's dh
I love when people don't want to take their meds after a close call like that Clearly he is fine and nothing big happened. LOL! Maybe seeing you that upset is just what he needed to make him rethink that for now.
Re: Thoughts & Prayers for bizzeedee's dh
I don't understand that.Maybe he is depressed.I know my father took his meds religiously. If you want to live and get better, you take your meds.

Re: Thoughts & Prayers for bizzeedee's dh
They're back at the hospital for the night. Not sure what happened yet.
Re: Thoughts & Prayers for bizzeedee's dh
Just adding that he was readmitted because his blood pressure was up and he may have had another mini stroke.
Re: Thoughts & Prayers for bizzeedee's dh
for whatever reason, last night I could not reply but am fine this morning. the doctor just wanted to hold chuck overnight for observation and of course, more tests...

Tests are good.I worry when they don't do enough.I was brought to the worst hospital in NY once. They didn't know what was wrong with me.Just dumped me in a bed and left me there to milk the insurance.

In Chuck's case, I wished the hospital in Nashville would have kept him longer... I felt that he was discharged too soon.

Re: Thoughts & Prayers for bizzeedee's dh
They like to discharge patients way too early here too. Hopefully this time they'll have more answers before letting him go home.
Re: Thoughts & Prayers for bizzeedee's dh
Well since Wed, Chuck has been in the local hospital and being well cared for, IMHO, and we thought that today he would be sent to the Rehab Ctr... He did have another stroke on Wed and was being kept for overnight observation...that's grown to 4 days and now they will keep him for the weekend as the rehab ctr doesn't admit patients over the weekend... especially on Sunday. Bible Belt : Oh well, he's getting great meals (I'm jealous) but I don't have to cook... seeing many meals out in the next 2-7 weeks...

Re: Thoughts & Prayers for bizzeedee's dh
I guess that's better than being sent home with no supports in place! Chances are he'll argue less with the nurses about the meds too.
Re: Thoughts & Prayers for bizzeedee's dh
It sounds like you're both happy with the hospital he's in now. I hope the transition to rehab goes smoothly. Every hospital discharge I've ever seen takes at least twice the estimated time estimated. Hope you both have your Patience Pills handy!

It is a good hospital, great staff... but patience is wearing thing. Night 6, still there. Rehab didn't happen today due to a delay in the approval from the insurance company... crossing fingers for tomorrow.

well, I'm home; Chuck another night at the hospital --- insurance is dragging their feet approving rehab; requested more PT/OT info from the rehab center... God willing, tomorrow he'll escape the hospital... he's getting hard to deal with and accepting all the red tape.

Re: Thoughts & Prayers for bizzeedee's dh
update... we are both at home... BC/BS denied the claim for a live in rehab center, but we can and are getting home nursing care. the RN on the case came today and spent more than two hours, taking history, evaluating, doing time exercises... she left, and an hour later, the PT showed up to assess (I actually have known this young gal for years, a real sweetie) and spent half an hour, few exercises then ordered OT so next week will be busy.... Nurse, OT, PT -- hopefully one each day (M-F) he tires easily... me more so.... for ten days I've been sitting and acting as the nurse in the hospital... legs feet swelled in the evening.... today, lots of running to get this and that.. but feet aren't swollen... that's a good thing. I've had many friends and neighbors asked how they can help... and have not asked (can't be in home as he needs bathroom assistance; a nurse is okay; but friends.... nope) so going to fb to let those peeps know I need some groceries... have lists ready :-) Tomorrow morning we go to my (soon to be Chuck's) Gp who specializes in geriatrics... that's going to be a trip and a half LOL

Is Chuck's demeaner a little better since he's home now? I don't want to say attitude, because nobody likes being in the hospital (except perhaps my MIL, but that's another story). I hope he's being cooperative and grateful for all of your help, Dee! You're really being tested now - praying for strength for you to care for Chuck and for a speedy recovery for him.

Re: Thoughts & Prayers for bizzeedee's dh
Attitude is the right word Lori ... last night was rough... about 2am he decided he wanted to go sit in a recliner... I fought him about it, telling him I wouldn't hear him... I finally gave in to stop a fight... then, as I tried helping him get up, the bed pad fell off with him on it. His head just missed the night stand. We finally got him up but not before a lot of harsh words were yelled (he apologized this morning).
We went to the doc this morning and she thought all things considered he was pretty strong and she talked to him about doing more things for himself to relieve me of some tasks so that I could maybe get out to a grocery store ... or back to yoga (Elizabeth is in my class).... Home and I fixed him some soup; one gal brought EAS protein drinks; next door neighbors just brought over my list of goods I asked for from Walmart; and last night, another neighbor couple brought my Aldis order. Then Chuck fell asleep on the couch.... ah the quiet time!

Re: Thoughts & Prayers for bizzeedee's dh
I'm just shocked that after two confirmed strokes they would deny his rehab stay. Do they think you're lying to get rid of him for a few weeks? LOL!
