bad morning - pepper spray

Well, today was the first day of school and the older kids got off to a nice start. But after they had gone I went back to bed. Quinn usually either sleeps in with me or watches educational shows like sesame street. So he got up... and found a bottle of pepper spray that had been accidentally brought into the house. He got a faceful. I called 911 and they sent an ambulance. The 911 operator said not to put water on it as that will spread it into other areas. The ambulance EMTs said the only thing to do was rinse it with water. So we rinsed it. It didn't help much and DID spread it around. Then after they left I remembered that it's oil-based so water alone won't do anything but water and soap will. And I also found some neosporin that had 'pain relief' medicine in it. THAT was what helped. Some got on me and I'm using that as a test area to see what works and also to help know how much he's still hurting. I also gave him tylenol.

He's OK, but he was hurting soooo bad. We never keep pepper spray in the house but Scott keeps it in the trunk of his car for when he has to go out in the woods. We've had a lot of bear sightings in the area and also some large dogs that people have abandoned. We think that one of the older kids accidentally brought it in the house when we were cleaning out the car and didn't realize what it was.

Oh my! Glad to hear it wasn't severe, but poor lil Quinn, pepper spray can be very painful:( You tell him here are some hugs from me, and that I hope he's feeling better soon!

Karen, that's awful! OMG, the poor little guy! How much does your test area hurt? Did it get in his eyes?

It did get in his eyes. He's asleep now. It wore him out.

My face is fine. There's a spot on my arm that just healed up from a scrape so the skin is thin. On that it's okay if I'm in a cool room but if I go into the direct sun or a hot room it starts to prickle and burn like a bad sunburn. I'm not putting anything else on it so that I'll be able to know how he's feeling. He got way much more of it than I did.

Damn poor kid. I maced myself once when I was little, uncle was a mailman. I remember it as being very unpleasant and uncomfortable.

how hurtful and sad... but you took steps immediately, and it's commendable that you are not cleaning your own patches to as to understand how he might be feeling :-(

Well we're all better now. The paramedics thought it would wear off in 20 minutes -- NOT! It hurt for hours and was tingling all day. But he's fine now and didn't blister, though he did pop a few blood vessels.

POOR THING!! I've gotten it on me and in my eyes off BR's clothes when he was at the prison. He was always getting it on him. that shit is BAD!
