Canada/USA
Look folks, it is a border. It is no different from the USA and Mexico. I do not understand - your government freely lets Mexicans in. There all several major corporations that do business in Canada and Mexico.
Was it not called NAFTA?
North American Free Trade Agreement.
If, in fact Bzz is a corporation, they should not have a problem, right. You tell me and

Re: Canada/USA
I have to say, I was shocked when I realized how big a deal the border is. It makes no sense to me.
Re: Canada/USA
Want to hear something funny? My dad works for the railroad. For the past 39 years he has crossed the border at Sarnia/Port Huron, Buffalo, and Windsor Detroit on a regular basis. He has a green card because the Canadian railroad that he started with out of highschool got bought out by an American one about 20 years ago. No big deal, never had a problem.
About a week and a half ago a border guard stopped them as they were going into Detroit. The guys all got their documentation ready, no big deal. The guard decided to give them a hard time and as the most senior member of the crew my dad was the one in charge and therefore became the target. I know you may find this hard to believe, but my dad doesn't back down when someone is BS'ing him like that (wonder where I get it from, eh?) so then this border guard decides to send my dad back to Canada even though there's nothing wrong with his paperwork because of the Homeland Security stuff. A train can't run a man short so the whole thing had to turn around and my dad had to spend the week verifying his paperwork
Of course I thought it was funny that after 39 years of him legally crossing the border a few times/week that they couldn't pull his name up on a computer and trace exactly how much terrorist activity follows him around those border cities, but they wouldn't even do that. If that's how bad the border has gotten for regular people lately, I'd hate to think of the red tape there must be for businesses.

Re: Canada/USA
But we dont freely let in mexicans. they swim the river. seriously. they are illegal. and they dont go to border crossings. We have to have a passport nowdays to go into Mexico.
But I think that is mostly cause of the prescription drugs. they are trying to deter it.

Re: Canada/USA
LOL rebecca.. that is pitiful! My grandfather get detained every time he flies. Cause in the late 50's early 60's he engineered a pipeline in iraq or kuwait or somehwere. When he was working in Africa in the late 90's he always was double checked. and then once 9-11 happened he has hell flying from here to Alabama. LOL

Yeah, the Mexicans are not legal, but I understand about Border Patrol. Try getting BACK into the US from Mexico.

Re: Canada/USA
Basicly it comes down to politics. The people of the US wanted more restrictions on our boarders for illegals. Those 12 -30 million people that come here and get welfare (cause you can when you are illegal, no questions asked), raise crime ( cause it does, they dont work, they get welfare, they are bored), and populate our prisons and govt housing. So we as a people called for it.
BUT in our politicians minds they didnt want to upset some group likke the aclu so they just screw with the legal people. Then they can say they are doing something.

Re: Canada/USA
The people of the US?? ... it was our alarmist administration...they have been using fear to lead the unthinking around by the short hairs for nearly 8 years now..
It is the common man who suffers... on both sides of the border.

This is a perfect example of an innocent man not to mention his employer.. suffering due to the ridiculous new laws. My son in law was detained for hours, unable to use, phone, toilet or ask why.. because he was told if he asks questions they will hold him longer..this happened on the way back from his honeymoon... finally after hours... they were told that it was due to his passport not scanning correctly.
It is ridiculous... we cannot see boogymen around every corner...and crying wolf every time a hapless commuter accidently leaves a package or backpack on a bus.
Re: Canada/USA
Oh the stories my uncle tells from working as a border patrol agent in Southern CA. They are quite interesting. Couldn't pay me enough to do that job - it has gotten so dangerous.

Re: Canada/USA
Very interesting story, Rebecca. I had a Grandfather that ran a liquor boat between Port Hurton/Sarnia - of course - those days are long gone. For other state border crossings, I was stopped going from Oregon into California because I had food that was of Canadian origin - eggs/bacon/bread. We had to pitch all the food in the garbage before we could cross into California due to a so called gas shortage. I knew better not to ask any questions, we simply took the food out, dumped it accordingly and proceed to cross the border. It was a shame, it was 25 years ago.
