School starts tomorrow for us!
Three of my kids start back to school tomorrow. The preschool doesn't start for another three weeks, though. I'm not sure why, since it's the same school system (and even the same building).
Re: School starts tomorrow for us!
School doesn't start here until the day after labour day. I don't mind having the boys home and we still have more things we'd like to do.
Re: School starts tomorrow for us!
Public School doesn't start here until Aug 30th, I don't know when I will start JJ, I have to make sure that I have all of his stuff ready first..

Re: School starts tomorrow for us!
It Started yesterday for us mine were getting on my nerves. Too much freedom since the garden is about petered out and the animals are all on a twice a day schedule. They were. Starting to really tear stuff up and getting obnoxious. They needed structure and responsibility
Re: School starts tomorrow for us!
chelle, I would love to send SIL's two boys, 9 and 4 to you..so you could teach them a thing or two. They are given everything they cry for either by SIL and her husband or his parents..no matter how badly they behave, there aren't any real consequences only a threat of a consequence which they don't follow through with. Just found out today that the 4 yr old threw a fit to his grammy and grampy that he wanted a 4 wheeler because they bought his brother a 4 wheeler when he turned 4...so they went out today and bought him one. They don't appreciate what they have and whine about what they want that moment all the time. They came over last night for Kris's birthday. The 4 yr old didn't want cake, he wanted ice cream, so we gave him ice cream, then he decided he wanted to try cake, so SIL cut a piece off hers and put it on his plate next to his ice cream, he decided he didn't want it and then proceeded to throw a fit because that little piece of cake she put on there was touching his ice cream on one small spot. So he threw a tantrum until she threw away everything on his plate and got him new ice cream...and his own piece of cake each on a seperate plate..and then he only had a couple bites of each...grr...and I am supposed to spend $60+ of my own money to make him a special birthday cake that he just has to have that he won't appreciate...grrr...

Re: School starts tomorrow for us!
Ours doesn't start until Sept 7th. Enjoy your last couple of one on one weeks with Quinn!
Re: School starts tomorrow for us!
Our local Christian Academy (which many of our neighbor kids go to, wonderful place) started Monday, 1/2 day, full today.
City/County schools started today... seemed stange to see buses again.
but then out kids all get out early to middle May....
Schools in Kentucky still keep the old calendar, the days when the kids worked in the tobacco flieds (although many still do)... plant in early spring, tend in July...

Michigan relies so heavily on tourism that we don't go back until after Labor Day. Universities go back in August, though.

Our schools did that until just recently only here the kids got out in June and didn't go back until October which is when tobacco finishes up here. Then the province decided to merge school boards together to make bigger boards and the city folk didn't understand why all the crops couldn't be in by labour day. There were quite a few years where a lot of the high school kids would miss the entire first semester since there was no point in starting school in October when everyone else was 4 - 6 weeks ahead of them. Now that the tobacco industry is dying here I don't think it's as big a problem as it was.
Re: School starts tomorrow for us!
unfortunately, it's not dying in KY... it's a major tobacco state (industry), with I think my county leading the pack!

Re: School starts tomorrow for us!
hope your bus driver coordinator is better than ours... first week of schools, kids were left standing; some kids didn't get home until 7:30 at night... a real mess, town in a uproar (and who wouldn't be if you assumed your taxes would support a school bus that actually know where to go)
anyway, a week later, and apparently they've ironed out some the wrinkles... but it was a horrible first week for many students and parents (well and I suppose the drivers as well as they only do the route they're given)

Unless you are a new driver, you will have the same run as last year, just a few more stops added or a few stops removed. Nothing major.

Re: School starts tomorrow for us!
my understanding here, is that they really tweaked the routes this year... as I said, things were better this week. we have two boys dropped across the street ... 2 buses due to 2 schools, and one boy a few doors up, and I've noticed their buses seem to now be running on the same time schedule as last year.
don't think for a minute I blame the drivers, like I said, they drive the routes they are given... just that the system has a new transportation director and superintendent this year, who actually admitted to be at blame for the first week's mishaps..

Re: School starts tomorrow for us!
Believe me when I tell you that no one is under more stress than the bus drivers, for the first few days.
On the first day of school last year, I got to the end of my elementary run and when I walked throught the bus I found a little boy sleeping. I gently woke him up and asked him where he lived?
Honest to God, this is what he said, " I live in a big white house in (name of town).
So I asked him what his name is, and he said "Mike", I said what is your last name, Mike?
He said, " Mike, just Mike.
I had to go through his bookbag to get his last name and call the school to find out where this white house was/
His Mom was mad at me because he didn't get off the bus the first time I stopped.

Re: School starts tomorrow for us!
I can understand the Mom's concern, but not her getting mad at you, for gosh sakes, you're not the nanny! At least you did every thing you could to find out where the boy lived....

Re: School starts tomorrow for us!
Poor guy! And poor you, too. I remember when I was in 5th grade we moved out of state. We were living with my grandparents and we only moved in a few days before school started. I knew the house and the streets around it on sight (it was very distinctive) but I didn't know my new address and was soooo embarrassed when the bus driver asked me in front of all the other kids and I had to say I didn't know.
Re: School starts tomorrow for us!
Oh well, that's the way it goes.
In my opinion, this could have been avoided if some one was waiting at the bus stop to make sure he got off. This also helps the driver because it tells us who gets off where. After a few days we can usually remember, so that if little Johnny doesn't get off at his stop, the driver can find out then and there if he is on the bus.

Re: School starts tomorrow for us!
my kids had to be in 5th grade to get off the bus with out me there. NOT just my car being in the driveway, the driver had to SEE me. and not just the oldest kid, ALL kids have to be in 5th.
They did let me sign a note that let the younger ones get off and walk home once Brett was a 5th grader.

Re: School starts tomorrow for us!
Ours started today. I can't believe my baby is in first grade already... on the other hand I can't wait until the little guy starts next year! The countdown is on. 52 more weeks. Watch me get knocked up and ruin all my personal time plans, lol.
Re: School starts tomorrow for us!
We started today too. So far so good! Sam got a much better teacher than he had last year so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that he'll straighten out.
