snow of 20-10
So who got it today (besides you who always get it LOL)... here in SW KY, they said we'd see 3-5" the downgraded to 1-2"... woke this morning to less than 1" but as the day progressed, probably another inch... the schools were closed needless to say, and the kids were loving it. 2 neighbor boys came over (9 and 10) and asked if they could have the snow in our driveway... they were building a snowman. Who would say "no you can't have our snow"
they not only took our driveway snow but also our sidewalk snow, shoveled into a wheelbarrow and carted it back to their house... I love my neighborhood kids... they're a delight!

That was very industrious of them! Did they make a snowman or a snow fort?

Re: snow of 20-10
I have to admit to laughing because the schools were closed for an inch of two of snow
Re: snow of 20-10
schools are closed again today and the sun is shinning (although it's horribly cold at 14 degrees).
Schools around here close due to the fact the city and county schools are both located in the city. Many of the students come in from all over the county where roads aren't that great for the buses to drive on even in dry weather... so they cancel.
Even private schools closed yesterday and today.

me too, lol
Re: snow of 20-10
well to be honest, I laugh too, but can understand why it's necessary for my county. As it is, they only brine abour 6 major roads/streets here... those that are routes to the only hospital in the county. the rest of us just have to deal with snow covered streets... I deal by not leaving home!
southerner's just don't know how to drive in snow, so it's dangerous to be out on the same roads as them.

Re: snow of 20-10
Yep, in Kentucky schools close with only minimal snow. But part of that is that we don't budget for much in the way of road salt and snow plows, and also because of what Dee said, our roads suck. There are plenty of kids in our county schools who have homes that you have to drive across streams to get to, or who live on dirt roads with steep inclines. Without road salt, plows, or pavement, the buses aren't safe. Even my house becomes difficult to drive to in just a little bit of snow. We have a long driveway with trees and scrub bushes on each side. The plants trap the snow so that if it snows 3 inches, there are 12 inch drifts all down my driveway. On the rare occasion that we get a truly deep snow, we're trapped.
Fortunately, calling off school for an inch or two of snow isn't much of a problem. The kids might have to go a week or two longer into the summer, but they won't miss much more than that.
Our snow wasn't fun, here. It was just dry and powdery and slick, plus there wasn't much on the ground to build anything with. Once you factored in the high temps in the teens and the bitter wind, my kids didn't want to venture out. They had friends over to visit and went to the movies, but didn't mess with the snow.
