Re: Snow days
I would like to sleep late tomorrow since it is cold, but no snow here, not for another 10-20 years.

Re: Snow days
We still have school (and work) here. They don't really let us have time off unless the police department says the roads are not safe to travel on. At least I'm not willing to get a ticket for unnecessary travel if they say no unnecessary travel allowed. The rural schools outside of town have been out for the last 2 days... but my daughter's school system still has to call me at 5:30 in the morning to tell me that the rural schools don't have school. You would think the database that the automated calling system runs on would be able to tell which school your kid goes to, but I guess that was too much to hope for.

Re: Snow days
we had no school here. It wasn't really bad this morning, It's starting to come a bit heavier now. It's hard for me to judge, I live on a state road so it gets cleaned up pretty frequently. A large portion of the district comes from up in the back hills though.
Re: Snow days
We've had a huge ice storm. The whole county is in a state of emergency and almost everyone has lost power, water, or both. We were out of power for a few hours. Caly and Zoe set up a "salon" and put about a quarter inch thick layer of makeup on all the girls, cut my hair (Caly did it and did a nice job) cut Quinn and Caly's hair (I did that) and shave the back of Zaven's neck.

You and a heck of big hunk of Kentucky. The talkers are saying its the most people in the state without power since Ike came thru last fall and hit KY pretty badly.
But aren't you a brave girl, Karen, to let your daughter CUT your hair? She's good or you have a lot of faith in her :-)

Re: Snow days
Well, I've had so many bad haircuts over the years I figured she couldn't do worse. Besides, haircuts grow out but memories stay with you.
Re: Snow days
I feel for you in the ice belt there. I can barely stand to turn on the news and see all the video footage of trees falling onto power lines. That's some serious overtime that the maintenance crews are getting in, but other than that...sheesh, what an ugly mess. Actually, a gorgeous mess until the trees start cracking and crumbling.
Will the kids need to make up the days of school they missed, or does your school district have enough snow days built into the schedule?

Re: Snow days
We had about 15 inches here, they didn't cancel school even though it was still coming down this morning. They almost never cancel school because of weather here. Everyone is so used to dealing with the snow, the snowplows are on the roads all hours of the day and night and the school doesn't care if the kids have to wade in a couple feet of snow all the way down the driveway to get to the bus...

Re: Snow days
We'll have to make the days up at the end of the year because we normally don't miss any days at all and we've missed the entire week. The ice storm knocked out power and water to almost the entire town and so many trees exploded on the college campus that they cancelled classes there, too. The campus is tiny and students are required to live in a dorm so closing due to weather has only happened a few times in their history. But with the trees bent over double from the weight of the ice, it's not safe to walk around.
Re: Snow days
So are you back online now Karen? electric back?
We have been around freezing the last few days. It might have froze one or two. But no water involoved.
Heck, we are talking about plowing and planting. That will start on Feb 14th.

No school here yesterday. The roads were treacherous.
It was the 6th storm day this year for us.

On and off. We've not lost electric for too long at a time, but we did lose phones and internet. I'll be posting pics soon I hope.

With any luck we will see the ground again around April, lol. May-June is our planting season.
Re: Snow days
schools closed here since tuesday... school board looking into whether or not they can get by without making up days... something to do with when your county is declared a diaster, they can forgive the time missed and still get school funding. many schools totally without power and not expected back anytime soon.
the kids have been loving it!
