Get it off your chest - Bad Christmas Gifts!
This is just for fun so please don't take it too seriously. I'm a big girl and I know it's the thought that counts. LOL
I'll start this off. This was my husband's gift from his mother a few years ago. She got him a pair of boxer shorts that had a big, bright present right there front and center and they said "Nice Package!" LOL It was so creepy for him to get those from his mom. She thought they were so funny. And she said she bought them while shopping with her daughter and she was going to get a pair for her son-in-law too, but her daughter said no, her husband wouldn't wear them. That should have given her a clue!
Needless to say, they were promptly sent to the Salvation Army, tags and all.

LOL! They sound lovely:)
The gift that first comes to mind for me wasn't really awful...just in the what-am-I-going-to-do-with-it? category. Last Christmas our youngest daughter and her husband gave me a coffee table book all about Il Divo. Now I have a CD or two of theirs that I listen to now and then, and they certainly are easy on the eyes. But a whole book?? Oh my

Re: Get it off your chest - Bad Christmas Gifts!
A few years ago, my sister and I were talking in mid-December about Christmas sweaters. We were saying how some people gave them as Christmas presents and really, even if you liked them (which neither of us do) they were a stupid Christmas present because you couldn't wear them after that day for eleven whole months. If you didn't change clothes right them, you had to wait until next Christmas season. Well on Christmas morning both of us got Christmas sweaters from our mother-in-laws. And we both hated them, but what was funny was that when we later got together and saw that we BOTH got them, it cracked us up so bad that we decided to keep them so we could wear them for family get togethers as an inside joke. And then Caly and my neice both wanted to know why we suddenly loved Christmas sweaters and after we swore them to secrecy, we told them and then THEY wanted matching Christmas sweaters to laugh about.
Re: Get it off your chest - Bad Christmas Gifts!
Mine wasn't exactly awful, but a few years ago my MIL gave me a couple of pots she had around her house. Now they are nice pots, but I had only been married for 5 years at the time and had gotten 2 sets of pots as wedding and shower presents. She had seen those pots and knew I had a spare set she just didn't want to have to go shopping for me!
Re: Get it off your chest - Bad Christmas Gifts!
ITs not as much a Christmas gift, but I LVOE chocolate meranige pie. LOVE it.
If you notice, very few places make a real one any more.
And after I make 20 plus pounds of banana pudding for each holiday I refuse to cook more pudding for me a pie. i dont use Jello pudding, its all real.
well each year my mom makes me what I like to call 'trailer park pie" its jello chocolate pudding (yes, you CAN tell the differnce) and cool whip.
on a graham cracker crust. (last year it was an oreo crust)
i never eat it. I refuse to subject my palate to such nastiness.
and she always gets me a chocolate cake for my birthday. No matter that I ALWAYS buy white cakes and white frosting for everyone elses. I dont like the nasty dry chocolate cakes.
I LOVE a tunnel of fudge cake, but thats as far as I go. I also HATE coconut. and she usually manages to get one with that in it or on the frosting.
These are NOT new devolopments in my life. I have NEVER never liked these things.
You would think of all the people in the world, she would know this.
I'll have to think hard on the worst gift ever.

Re: Get it off your chest - Bad Christmas Gifts!
Let's see, I'm almost embarrassed to list these-now keep in mind these gifts were given to me by the kids father the 7 1/2 years I was with him, not by my husband.
One year I got a red rat snake (because he wanted one)
Another year I got 3 used books (because he spent all the money on alcohol)
The next year I got alcohol (because he wanted it)
One of the years I got a $5.00 department store ring that he swore was real and it turned my finger green.
Oh and my favorite, one year I got a pair of boots (both were left foot) and since they were bought on clearance could not be brought back.
The other two years , I didn't get anything those two years

The tupperware containers from SIL filled with Chex mix, and roaches....they had a little infestation apparently...GAG
The nightgown I got last year, MIL called and says " don't you wear na XL?" I said NO, I wear a med. " she says OK. I got an XL nightgown, And I think she got it from fredericks of hollywood....

Re: Get it off your chest - Bad Christmas Gifts!
One year my son bought me a gag gift from the dollar store and it was so bad, it has become a tradition. It was a a thing with the bottom bottom part of a person's body standing on two big feet with a plastic penholder thingy (that I just broke taking a look at it). Each year he tries to find the worst thing they have.
Re: Get it off your chest - Bad Christmas Gifts!
one year my ex bought himself a 42inch tv with full home package, and got me a pair of slippers from the dollar store, that year I had bought him all the things he had been hinting to the whole 2 months b4. I was pissed.

Re: Get it off your chest - Bad Christmas Gifts!
Hm... I remember one year I bought over $500 in gifts for my ex. Books he was interested in (the whole Vampire Chronicles set), a Nintendo 64 and 3 games, some shirts, CD's and a few movies. Guess what I got that year? A necklace with a chain so tiny, it didn't fit, and then broke. I was so pissed when the following year he traded in that 64 for something else. Needless to say, after that Christmas, we were no longer. (of course, more to it, but that was just icing on the cake)
As far as anything I have gotten from anyone else that was horrible, I honestly can not think of it. Maybe some clothes? I am picky about my clothes and would rather have a GC. No one can get me anything that fits to my comfort (they always want something that fits me tight, well, when you have a large chest, you don't really want it all out there, kwim??) or it is just so the wrong color.

Re: Get it off your chest - Bad Christmas Gifts!
My worst gift was a cow cookie jar and when you open it --it mooooed
From my friend Brenda -- I was like what the heck it was the most stupid gift I have ever seen --- Since that same Xmas I gave her a basket filled with Paul Mitchell - Goldwell- Matrix -haircare products since I knew she loved all that stuff.
Oh yes and the kicker to this story she left the price tag on $6.99 -- It was not the price since price does not matter it's what comes from the heart - Now this was a girl whom was in my wedding not by my choice she begged and then I got sick of hearing her - and I was her maid of honor and this girl and her husband make well over 300 thousand + a year Needless to say after 15 years of knowing her -- I had it with her and dropped her like a bad habit (LOL) Have not spoken to here in 7 months it been the best 7 months in 15 years (LOL) -- Everyone of my family members and my friends hated her..

Re: Get it off your chest - Bad Christmas Gifts!
My MIL always insisted on buying me pants. They are nice pants, but she always gets the wrong length! She just gets a regular length, and I need a long. One time, she actually said that she knew they were only a 32" inseam and I need a 34"inseam, but they were lowrise, so I figured they would be long enough. Ummm. Lowrise, normal rise, highrise, all have the same inseam! I have yet been able to wear a pair of pants she has bought me, luckily now she buys me shirts instead (short sleeve, so we don't have the same problem with the arms being too short).

Re: Get it off your chest - Bad Christmas Gifts!
About the clothes that don't fit...for our first Christmas while dating (this is '79, yikes!), DBF, now DH, bought me a monogrammed sweater. Yes, he got the monogram right, but he bought a size small. Size small in the 70's were much smaller than they are now and I have NEVER worn a small. I've always been well endowed, and have wide shoulders and a large frame.
It turns out that he had been shopping, found the sweater he was pretty sure he wanted to buy, but put it back on the rack to make a last sweep of the store. Then came back and grabbed the sweater at the very front of the rack thinking it was the medium that he had just put there. Nope. Sales women only like the tiniest size at the front of the rack, and they had swooped in on it and placed it farther back on the rack.
It was sweet of him to go to all that trouble, and I did try the sweater on to show him that it really did not fit, then I gave the sweater to a neighbor who had the same initials. I don't know if she was ever able to wear it either because even though she was 3 years younger than me she had really blossomed herself up top since the last time I had seen her.

Re: Get it off your chest - Bad Christmas Gifts!
I am sure something will pop in my head later but I can't think of a single bad gifts. I mena there have been clothes that wont fit, kitchen stuff I wont use but nothing I would label bad. Our first Christmas together, I got nothing. I learned quickly that as much as I love my hubby that he is a big clueless idiot, so I buy my own presents. It kinda ruins teh surprise, I will give him some money and send him out for a gift but I usually give him a list and say hey I like A, B, and C so get me one of those. Most of the time my gifts are just things I need, this year it will be a new vacuum cleaner. It is something I need, yet can not go buy myself while the other one, even though it smells funny and doesn't work well still runs. My brother and I tend to get each other things we want. Last year he gave me a size XXL wool looking ugly coat. (I am a med, possibly a large, not an XXL). He however has given that coat a workout while I am sitting here in the sweatshirt I got him. I'm always just thankful for the gift, even if I hate it. Now I could easily make a list of gifts my kids have received that I hate.
Re: Get it off your chest - Bad Christmas Gifts!
Lori- I did that last year on a sweatshirt for my dad that said worlds greatest grampa..... (there is no way in hell 4.5 years ago my dad would wear anything with writing in it, lol, grandkids do funny things) But anyway, I debated and debated and finally picked up the one I was looking at- got home and realized I got him an XS, not the L I thought I had. There weren't anymore when I went to exchange it.
Re: Get it off your chest - Bad Christmas Gifts!
Usually I'll tell my husband something small I'd like. 2 years ago it was bubble bath. Did I ever get the bubble bath - I still have some! Last year I said I could use some new candles. I won't be needing those for a while. LOL And he always acts really surprised on Christmas morning when all of my guys are seeing what's in their stockings and then notices that I don't have anything in mine. He always says "Oh, that's sad". Not sad enough to make him put something in there the next year, though!

Re: Get it off your chest - Bad Christmas Gifts!
I do my own, Saige is very big on fairness, she will notice if mommys is empty, or if she got more gifts than her brother. I know someday it will be haha I got more than you- but at 4 she is just like why doesn't Santa like baby brother as much as me?
Re: Get it off your chest - Bad Christmas Gifts!
Dh and I always discuss stockings beforehand. We sometimes do them, sometimes not....depends on our moods.

Re: Get it off your chest - Bad Christmas Gifts!
I do the stockings on my own. Timmy gets little gifts, usually a box of crayons and a coloring book. And then there is a candy cane or two in each stocking and some small candies. I don't mind if there is nothing in mine. But then again, this is a small family of Mom, Dad and child, and of course the child is number one in recieving gifts.
Re: Get it off your chest - Bad Christmas Gifts!
I do stockings and it's always overkill. But most of it is cheap, cheap, cheap. There's always an apple, an orange, some nuts, some candy, and a few inexpensive doo-dads. And yes, I buy stuff for my own. Scott usually gets a few things for mine, but I do it anyway. And I do buy a few gifts for myself. Because even though Scott always gets me a nice gift, he gets me one or two things. Everyone else has several so I like to fill it out a bit. But it's all stuff I would have bought anyway because we needed it. That or freebies I got thru the net.
Re: Get it off your chest - Bad Christmas Gifts!
Oh Kelly! Im so glad that guy is NO MORE!
I won't share my worst gifts simply because search engines scare me.. but I will share my worst moments:
Shortly (first one or two years) after my first husband and I were married we were watching a commercial and it highlighted a pearl necklace.. he mentioned how great that was and wouldn't I love to have one... ummm we lived in the middle of nowhere.. when would I ever wear a pearl necklace? Christmas morning.. there is this great pearl necklace as my "big" gift... oooopsie
You would think I would learn.. nope.. One year we had Christmas at my sisters and the night before we are talking about "bad" gifts.. I go on and on about how sick of "Kitchen appliances" I am as gifts.. they have nothing to do with me and just mean work..
What did I get from her the next day? A "item of the year" sandwich maker.. EEEEEEKKKK
I felt SOOO bad both times...
