Re: teacher gifts
I let my kids do end of the year teacher gifts if they like the teacher. A homemade card or picture. But I don't do it myself. I do a beginning of the year "gift" and bring in 4 or 5 dozen extra pencils, extra notebooks, etc. I figure if I'm buying good will for my child, it needs to be from the teacher they are getting ready to have, LOL!
Re: teacher gifts
I do not know, and never thought of it as a child, I usually just got teachers I liked something for Christmas.
But Timmy will be in school next year, and I will have to take note what to do for him!

Re: teacher gifts
Christmas we do "classroom gifts" meaning supplies/toys for the room. End of the year I do teachers. I also take flowers at random times of the year. This year we did May Day, there are always teachers in the hallways we walk through so I bought some individiual carnations for them for may day as well.

Re: teacher gifts
a MP card, LOL
No really, I always find great deals on Mary Kay Satin Hands set that retail for $40.00 for around $7.00 on ebay. I search all year for them and stock up when I find them just for teachers gifts.
I also love to give candles and BBW lotions and gels

Re: teacher gifts
GLade wisp flameless candles.
seriously. cause they cant have real candles in there anymore.
and since I get miagraines from certain perfumes I try not to give scented lotions or anything. Bretts teacher this year had the worst lotion. it stunk. gave me an instand miagraine. she got it as a gift from a student the first day. and always wore it to the parties so the parent would smell it. ACK!
And yes, some candles get me too, but not as bad as perfumes.. LOL

A scrapbook of their class
I saw that somewhere on a magazine.. Thought it would be a good idea, not that I ever did it for my daughter's teachers though.

Re: teacher gifts
I have that same problem chelle.. with the migraines. Sometimes all it takes is to walk by a person.
It is a huge issue for me at work. Someone in the next room wears so much cologne that if I walk past their room
it bothers me...
One of our students moms kept putting cologne on her...
She has CP and needed physical assistance. She never had a lot on, but it was enough
to be a problem for me. We kept asking mom, but she kept it up.
No one where I work is supposed to wear fragrance. We have kids with autism and kids with sensitivites....
Admin does not give a care.... the director wears it..
At least I can try to do something, the kids can't . I have on more than one occasion sent a sub away due to the cologne thing...
I am not the only staff in the building with this issue,either... but it doesn't matter.
They also use some very strong cleaning agents and insect sprays when the kids are in the building..
( and staff) and more than once I and others have had asthma attacks due to it.
Any complaints are ignored

Re: teacher gifts
Gifts in a Jar are easy to put together as well as being inexpensive.
When I was teaching, I was overwhelmed with gifts of various forms of Evening in Paris.....lotions, soaps, colognes....probably because I was the French teacher lol

Re: teacher gifts
Being in education for so many years, I think we appreciated homemade gifts as much or more than anything you could buy. One year, I got several loaves of homemade bread and jars of jam- I loved it. Then things like the cookie mixes in a jar were always a hit. If you know a teacher has a sweet tooth- a little basket with candy bars in always good. Gifts don't have to cost much- One mother made up some master mixes for cake and gave me a large bag- all I had to do I think was add the eggs and bake. I liked that too.

Re: teacher gifts
If its a teacher that wears scarfs, or something like that I get them a pretty pin.
If its a teacher that I know has a charm bracelet, I have given them a charm that had an apple and said 07 on it.
I do try to stay away from knick knacks. But sometimes will give them something to decorate in their classroom. Like the teachers with crosses and such, I gave one a small wooden angel statue that said something about teacher earning their wings, one child at a time.
Or here is a poem that we used this year for our teacher appriciation week.
Teachers are angels,
without wings or halo's
Teachers are hero's
with out fanfare and press
to mold a young mind, to hug a young heart,
with compassion and love you shine each day
a greater calling, there never will be,
For you are a true hero, especially to me. .
I did misspell hero's. but it fit in the way the poem looked. Plus, I cant spell, and I call it artistic licence.
We printed that up on cardstock, ran a ribbon through it, gave them some cookies and a free meal at a local resturant. that was the PTA that did that. But you could do the same thing, make it sorta framable, and put it on a jar of mix or a bag of goodies.

Re: teacher gifts
oh wait, we might have used this one.
Teachers are angels,
with out wings or halo's
Teachers are hero's
with out fanfare and press
to mold a young mind, to hug a young heart,
TEachers are fearless, amazing and grand
and here is another:
Thank you for caring,
For the hugs and the smiles,
wiping the tears and the dirt,
And being part of the trials.
Youth is fleeting, only a year you have seen,
But Young ladies and gents from your widsom have gleened,
The love and support, the lessons and work,
You have our support, our thanks and our awe
WIth out teachers, our minds would be small.

*bonks self in head*
I gave out "friendship tea" to several people this past Christmas
I didn't know they were called gifts in a jar.
Thanks for the explanation

Re: teacher gifts
Gifts in a jar - cookies to add wet ingredients
We used to make homemade cookies/cakes etc for our teachers...not sure if that is appreciated anymore.
Gift cards to anywhere....how about gas cards - everyone uses those.
Chexmix - the homemade kind - fun and easy to do
Extra supplies

Re: teacher gifts
I received probably the coolest gift for Christmas this past year..A student gave me a red and green rubbermaid container..and inside of it was some wonderful and tasty baked goods..
But the container was very needed as I buy Christmas items and have to shop for something to store them in.
But on our last day a parent organized a Pizza party..each gave a dollar and everything was supplied..Which was nice because normally its hard to get the kids to focus on anything so a party a good way to entertain and have fun. This was a wonderful gift to us all..
