Do you buy Giftcards as gifts?
I wanted to give everyone a heads up that if you tend to give gift cards
around the holidays, you need to be careful that the cards will be
honored after the holidays.
Stores that are planning to close after
Christmas are still selling the cards through the holidays even though
the cards will be worthless January 1.
There is no law preventing them
from doing this.
On the contrary, it is referred to as 'Bankruptcy
Planning).
Below is a partial list of stores that you need to be
cautious about.
Circuit City (filed Chapter 11)
Ann Taylor- 117 stores nationwide closing
Lane Bryant, Fashion Bug ,and Catherine's to close 150 stores nationwide

Re: Do you buy Giftcards as gifts?
That is part of the reason I don't buy gift cards. Once I realized that there is no insurance as to their value, I decided to never, ever buy them. I would rather send a check.

I still do GC's, but only walmart and target.....

Re: Do you buy Giftcards as gifts?
I do giftcards too. There are some stores like Tim Horton's that will always be here no matter how tough things get!
Re: Do you buy Giftcards as gifts?
Part of the reason I don't like MyPits is the fact that you can ONLY get giftcards. You want to cash out as soon as you have enough points, because there have been increases in the number of points it takes to cash out. But if you don't have enough for a larger denomination card, then you might be hanging on to it for several months waiting until you can cash out again. And if you lose it or if the store goes out of business, you've simply lost your reward.
Re: Do you buy Giftcards as gifts?
I dont buy gift cards. Cause I try to buy nice stuff on sale and give it. LOL.
Plus I like a more personable gift.
But this is a great heads up. Thank yuo!! it might help folks who GET a gift card too. GO the day after Christmas. the sales are best then anyway.

Re: Do you buy Giftcards as gifts?
I don't buy them simply because I would look "cheap".. Don't mean that in a bad way but because I can only afford to do about $10 per gift. I can buy a $10 gift card or I can find what is normally an $50+ present for around the same price. Yep.. Im a very savvy shopper! Last year I got $100 down comforter and pillow sets for around $15!
Re: Do you buy Giftcards as gifts?
wow that's really sad to think about all those people losing their jobs
i haven't bought gift cards because i was scared of something like this happening
