Hurricane Kyle Heading Our Way
Kyle Heading to the Maritimes
Heavy rain pounding New Brunswick. Winds getting stronger across Nova Scotia.
Storm Watch Information
Peak Wind gusts as of 7 pm ADT:
Baccaro Point: 124 km/h
Halifax Stanfield Int'l Airport: 81 km/h
Yarmouth: 80 km/h
Western Head: 80 km/h
Lunenburg: 76 km/h
Winds are increasing across the south shore of Nova Scotia as the centre of Kyle nears Yarmouth with the strongest winds likely through the mid-evening and early overnight hours. The shoreline from Yarmouth to Halifax will likely see the strongest gusts from this storm. The picture below shows swells that were beginning to build this afternoon around Shad Bay (near Halifax) as Hurricane Kyle approached.
New Brunswick and PEI will see gusty winds overnight, but the strongest winds with the potential of more widespread damage will be reserved for Nova Scotia. Wind gusts of 100-120 km/h are likely to down trees and cause power outages. Deciduous trees are more likely to come down as the leaves act like a sail, catching the wind and putting more force on the branches and trunk.
Western New Brunswick (near Woodstock) has already seen 50-70 mm of rain from a frontal system well ahead of Kyle. Additional rainfall tonight may cause flooding in areas near the Maine border.
However, it appears that rain will not last long enough over most of Nova Scotia or PEI to cause significant problems. Rainfall in New Brunswick will ease off later tonight. Kyle will weaken overnight into Monday morning with lingering blustery conditions around the Gulf of St. Lawrence on Monday.

Stay safe. We are supposed to miss most of it. We're getting rain, but that seems to be about it. We're not even under a wind warning.

We are safe as far as flooding goes, but the wind is howling right now.
We had no damage from hurricane Juan that hit exactly 5 years ago.
It is freaky that 2 hurricanes hit us on the same date.
I think we will be OK. I pray that everyone else is as well.

Re: Hurricane Kyle Heading Our Way
Well the worst is over.
No damage here, thank goodness.
Our power went out at 2:05AM and came back on at 8:20AM.
Not bad considering how windy it was.
It was a wet and wild night, but the rain has almost stopped.
It is down to a mist now but it is still windy.
