Post by 59pearly Sat Aug 30, 2008 11:37 am

I'm not really too nosey so when I heard this, I just went back to sleep:
"So, you're stripping now!???"
Silence.
More talk I couldn't really understand.
Later, about 20-30 minutes...
Bang! and three more shots.
Silence.
1/2 an hour later...
"This is the police. If you are inside (house address), come to the front door with your hands up!"
Repeated two more times...
Then the SWAT breaks the door down.
Then at daybreak, the police are knocking on doors asking if anyone heard or saw anything.

This happened around 4:30 this morning. It is now 8:30 am and the police are still in the middle of the street.

I went outside to pick up the paper and saw my next door neighbors. We just shrugged because we don't know what happened.
All I know is that the address the police were shouting was the newly sold house across the street.

That house was owned by an older resident who we found on the floor two years ago. He had been down there for months, sharing food and water with a little flea bitten dog. Since he had previously declined assistance in care from all of us "older" women, we just checked on him once in a while. Mostly, he wanted much younger women around. The last one who took care of him was a 5150 and didn't have enough sense to let someone know the man had fallen. Anyway, I called the emergency crew and he was hospitalized and died some months later, never returning home. He didn't have any relatives so his property, valued around 1/2 million or more went to the state. They sold the house and that person had it re-done and that's when we inherited our new neighbors. The ones who are suspect this morning. I'm telling you, it must have been a murder. Long Beach police do not hang out for hours over just an argument.

When I find out more, I will post something. I am waiting to call my friend around the corner who has a police scanner.

Oh no! I would have been freaking out! I don't have neighbors to hear or not hear. Well, I've been told they can hear Zoe, but she's loud. Had you heard them arguing before? I hope that the one who was shot was the one who needed shot. I would feel better if I knew that he'd started to beat her so she shot him, rather than he disapproved of her and shot her. It's still someone dead, but I'd feel better anyway. I hate "domestic violence". The police don't do crap to stop it until someone's in the hospital or dead. Sad

Hi Karen. We don't know the new neighbors at all. I couldn't tell you what they looked like they are so new. They've had a couple of parties since they moved in but other than that... I see a woman and man talking to some officers now but have never seen them before.

I don't have a clue. I just called my uncle around the corner and he hasn't heard anything either.

That's funny what you said about Zoe. One of the neat things about your area and down south, you have space between houses...

There are definite pluses to having space, but there are also minuses. I grew up in a neighborhood. You saw people every day and got to know them. And there were always kids around to play with. My kids just have each other, and they tend to clump around the TV and computer more because there's no one new to get to know. I wouldn't know what was going on with my neighbors unless it was on the news. There's no sense of community. On the other hand, if my plumbing broke and we all had to pee in the yard for a week, it wouldn't be that big of a deal.

Wow pearly!! sounds kinda scary! you never know what people are doing....

I like having no neighbors. I can tell the boys to go and pee in the yard. LOL

and I dont have to deal with anyone, thats a major plus. But we live in a tight knit community. So if someone needs help we do what we can.

Plus my family is my neighbors. I cant see their houses, they cant see mine and its not within shouting distance, but you can walk there through the woods pretty quick (20 minutes).

Pearly,

A sililar thing happened to me about 10 years ago when I lived in an apartment. 3:30 in the morning and police with their guns drawn made me leave my apartment. They were downstairs with their guns drawn, hiding behind my car and left me standing unprotected!

We didn't know what had happened until about 8am. SOmeone had broken itno the their ex's apt. (across from mine) and raped her at gun point. The 15 year old child got out and called police. He had her held hostage till about 7am.

Scary stuff. Hope you find out soon what happened!

Karen, you are so funny.

Chelle, you paint a very nice picture of your area. I would love some woods but only snakeless ones, lol. It must be nice to have family so close.

Beachy, now that is one scary scene you were in. The worst part is not knowing what is going on around you.

The police are still there. At one point they brought a parrot out. I'm thinking, now what did the poor bird do? From what I gather, the police have torn up the house and the furniture is in the backyard. Seems the argument was between a couple. It is said there was a struggle and she must have come back with her bodyguard from the strip club and someone, a guy, was shot and is in the hospital. This is just what I heard. No one seems to have any details because we all know bits and pieces and put them together. It's funny, some people heard the argument but not the shots, I heard the shots and the SWAT team and some people didn't know anything. And we are all only separated by driveways. But will all agree that it is strange how none of us know the new neighbors well enough to even know who lives there. Pretty strange for this block.

They have now been there about 7 hours.

Oh Pearly, it must be bad. They would not be there that many hours for fun. They may have taken the bird out when they had the chance so that it wouldn't die if they tear-gassed the house. Policemen (and women) are like everyone else. They don't like having to hurt an innocent pet just because they're trying to arrest it's owner.

I was in the police station in town a few years ago getting fingerprinted so I could volunteer at the local school, and one of the officers was being teased because he was walking an old woman's dog every night. She'd had her hip replaced and couldn't walk the dog yet for fear it would pull on the leash, so she asked the police if they could walk it for her. So every night on his break, he'd go and take her dog for a walk. I thought that was the nicest thing. Silly, but very, very sweet.

What's going on now? Wow, I would have frieked out to have heard all that!

About 7 years ago, I left my apt to go to work, and I saw a ton of police officers and yellow tape around a home on the corner. Thought nothing of it, since i knew we had a few drug dealers on our street, I just thought that was one of the homes. I go to work. A few hours later, I get a call from my now-ex asking if I talked to the police this morning. No, what's going on? He tells me that someone was murdered in the home. I guess it is abandoned and one of the homeless that came out of the woods behind us found the person and got the cops. Turns out to be another homeless person, shot to death. Pretty scary and I never left after dark after that. Plus, always made sure that if I worked late, someone was home, or I'd go to the bookstore until someone else was home. Last I heard, the home was torn down and some apartments were built up over the land now.

Scott says it must be "Hakeem the negotiation parrot". The police send him in to try to persuade criminals to give up their hostages. It's less expensive than sending in a human negotiator because you can pay them in crackers. But when negotiations broke down they drove him back to the station for a debriefing.

Wow, Missy, that kind of altered your life. One girl at a former job would always call home on her cell and talk with a family member until she got in her car and pulled away.

I am waiting for the papers tomorrow to see if something has been printed. I've searched online but the same outdated stories keep coming up. No one is around over there since the police left this afternoon.

Well, the week has come and gone. So have the new neighbors. I attended 7:45 service Sunday morning and when I returned, they were loading their things and moving out. They had a three bedroom house emptied within three hours! However, none of us know anything more about the incident and probably never will. I don't know if that's a good thing or what. Since it was like only two houses away, you would think we could have at least been given a few details.

I think I will ask one of my friends in law enforcement if it is okay to ask downtown about the incident. We used to have neighborhood watch but that was when all our parents were around. Then, too, all of the houses only contained one family per house and some of us grew up here. These days, we see several adults and children living together and we can't tell who is who. Other than that, this is a pretty quiet block and most people stay put for long periods of time. They hadn't been there but a few months.

LOL, For me its Tuna Fish and Popcorn. Thats always what it was when I was growing up. I was 20 years old before I learned that his name was "that damn Tom Landry"

And that was good or bad , you just change the infliction on damn. Wink LOL

My kids even know. They will come RUNNIN in the room like Kramer and I will hold up my hand. They skid to a stop, I say
"whats on TV?"
"uhhhh Dallas?"
"yep, what do we do when Dallas is on?"
"Sit down, Shut up and dont talk to you"
"BINGO!"
"whats the other rule?"
"when the Cowboys play, we better be bleedin or dyin before we come cryin and we aint allowed to get in fights"
"thats why I love y'all, Now LEAVE"

I was trying to watch the RNC and Rayley came in here whining about something, after me pausing the TV for like the 17th time I finally told her, "pretend Dallas is playing" "oh, okay, this is the later kind of important anyway"
Then I heard her tell the boys "well, y'all are safe for a little while, momma is pretending Dallas is playing"
