I am still too livid to fully explain but here are the highlights:

Using a coupon is not stealing.

Cashiers shouldn't be chaising down customers at the service desk to start a fight.

Keeping my coupons that were not scanned IS stealing.

That's all I can say until I calm down, may be tomorrow morning.

they have a coupon policy- it is online write a letter to corporate. Better yet make a phone call too when your calm.

I can go on and on about them Illegally checking your bags at the door, and chasing you if you refuse.
I always tell them " get a warrant, I bought it, you cannot look at it".

Wal Mart sucks in general. I'm a hypocrite beause I do shop there, mind you. But yeah, they blow for a lot of reasons (their prices scan up wrong for one, not to mention their bs labor practices).

Anytime you get a hard time anywhere, don't deal with a cashier. Patiently tell them to get the manager and just have it out with them. If they can't right the situation, ask for the district manager's number or that of the corporate office and explain the junk you had to deal with. Give as good as you get!

Wow! The Walmart here is pretty good. I've never had a problem with a coupon or seen them check anyone's bags -- that's crazy!

I actually had the opposite experience at Wal-mart last night. Scott and I had to get some groceries, pet food, etc. So we took both the babies with us. Quinn stole a banana out of the basket and ate it. He was fussy and crazy. And Zoe did great so at check out I was trying to get her a treat as a reward for being so good when she's usually not, trying to deal w/ Quinn and the banana goop, etc. Scott remembered something he needed to check before we left so I was on my own. And the cashier was SO nice. She didn't give me any trouble about the banana, just weighed a different one twice (most cashiers will do this, but they always give me dirty looks). And she flirted with Quinn to keep him from crying while I unloaded the cart, talked w/ Zoe about her pretty dress while I was going through my purse looking for my coupons, separated the raw meat from all the other food without me asking, and loaded my cart for me (heavy stuff on the bottom) while I was helping Zoe pick out a treat. She was so nice I offered her a tip and told her I'd had waitresses that I was expected to tip not give me such good service. This is the first time I've EVER offered to tip a cashier... and she refused it because giving good service is part of her job. I'm planning on calling the manager to tell them how nice she was.

Sounds like it's time for a cocktail. Laughing I'm guessing you had a coupon that wouldn't scan. Our Walmart won't take items that won't scan, and have a policy against manually entering them. However, my cashier advised me to take it to Walgreen's since they had similar prices on the item, and their scanner worked better. Very Happy Sounds like you had the cashier from hell who also had pms! Laughing

To Whom It May Concern:

Last night I was in your Quincy, IL store. This was one of the most terrible and embarrassing experiences of my life. I am an avid couponer. I have been using coupons since I was a kid.

I entered the line at 7:00pm. There were two purchasers in line in front of me. The first person had paid for their items and stood there and talked with the cashier. The cashier stopped working and just stood there talking. That should have been my clue to switch lines but I did not. I waited for 5 minutes while the cashier and customer talked. The cashier left the register twice during this interaction to walk over to other lanes and talk with other cashiers and the customers. It appeared that she was taking her break while staying at the register.

The customer finally left and the cashier began to ring up the second customers order. This was the slowest process ever. They did not have a lot items. In the time it took the cashier to process the order the lane next to us had 5 customers pass through it. Again, I should have taken this as a sign to switch lanes but I did not. The customer paid for their items and then the cashier noticed a TV dinner that was still on the belt. She asked the customer if it was theirs. They said yes. The cashier handed it to them and said “here, just take it”. She then asked how much was it, the customer said $0.88. The cashier then said “I don't want to worry about it, just go. It's $0.88 I should care but I don't”. This is going to seem really odd as you read and see what she did to me.

I had 49 items, many had coupons. The cashier read each and coupon word for word. I'll admit, I didn't read one of them and it was not valid for the size I purchased. Not a big deal. She then proceeded to tell me that all of my valid coupons were not valid. I told her to cancel the entire order. She refused to do so. I then asked for a manager. The manager arrived and the cashier would not let me talk to the manager. She kept talking over me. I told the manager I would come to the customer service desk and talk with her once I had paid.

I paid for my items and headed towards the customer service desk. While I was there the cashier left her register, that had a long line when I left, to come and personally verbally attack me. She called me a thief, said I was stealing. Coupons are NOT stealing. Your company is reimbursed full face vale plus an $0.08 processing fee.

I returned 3 identical items that were the wrong size. I was so mad I was shaking. I needed to get home to put my children to bed so I left without looking over my receipt entirely.

Once I got home and had my bags put away, I realized, your cashier STOLE my coupons! I handed her numerous coupons all at once, she argued every single one of them, even the ones with pictures. I assumed she was scanning them and they were being taken off my total. Once I arrived home I sat down with my receipt and I realized she kept and did not scan $6 worth of coupons. I am so mad and upset at your store I do not want to go back.

I left your store at 7:45pm, 45 minutes after entering a line with two customers in it. That is ridiculous!

What I want you to do is issue me a gift cardor check for at least $6 for the coupons your employee stole from me. I assume your company punishes shoplifters stealing from your store. I feel this situation can be remedied without any legal ramifications.

Loss prevention needs to take a serious look at this employee. She's giving away items to one customer and stealing from others.

Something else to note is on the bottom of the receipt it states customers under 40 need to show ID to purchase alcohol. I am 28 years old. I look like I am maybe 23-25 years. I purchased a 24 pack of beet. I was not carded, I was just asked verbally what my birthday was.

I have stated everything I need or want to say in this letter. I do not want to talk to anyone on the phone. I just want my money mailed to me.

If you call the Home office, in Bentonville Ark. ( there is a 1800 number on their website) they WILL correct the problem. They will contact the manager today, and the cashier will be taken care of .
I can say, as much as I hate walmart, they DO take problems seriously, and they do take care of them.

Hopefully there is another wal mart close to you. There are 4 near me, but I only go to 2 of them.........the other 2 suck.

Jeepmom- I think you should add your number and let them call you, they might go to great lengths to make it up to you. I have heard so many different things about Walmart, it's hard to tell. I also think you should call today and speak with the actual store manager (I'm guessing at 7:30 you an assistant or a CSM- just guessing though). If you really want to be a bitch (and I sure would) you could also notify the right people about her not carding you for alcohol. She didn't card you, she probably doesn't others as well. I know here that would lead to a sting and if she failed she would be promptly fired and given a hefty fine Smile

I know when I worked retail and sold alcohol I ID'ed EVERYONE. It pissed people off but at no time did I think any one of them was worth 500 bucks to me, which was the going fine here in NY at the time. LOL my blood pressure is going up thinking about it. I use to like people until that job (ass manager of a convenience store), it ruined me I swear. Dealing with stupid people day in and day out- never ever again I think I would rather be naked, hungry and homeless. I hate people.

i am appalled!! wow. wow. just wow. that is just disgusting!

personally i have NEVER stopped when they try to stop me at the exit to check my bags. they have no legal right. only sam's club has any right because it is in the agreement you sign to get a sam's card. so they CAN take your card for refusing to be checked as you leave. but wal mart has NO legal right to stop me. specially when they just bloody saw me leave a cash register! DER. specially at christmas. i tell them i dont have time for this stupidity and i just leave. i have had a couple arguements with security over it as well. btu they have yet to even try and call the police on me. Mad

JeepMom, I once had a bad experience in our Walmart Supercenter. I had purchased an air conditioner and after 2 weeks of using it something went wrong and it stopped getting cold. I tore the house apart because I could not find the receipt. I called the store and explained the situation and that I could not find the reciept, but I did have my bank statement showing where a purchase had been made at Wal-Mart for the exact cost of the air conditioner plus tax. I told them that I could bring it in. I also had the original box complete with stickers,tags, and all of the styrofoam packing that came in it down to the last twist tie. I was told that it didn't matter, if I did not have the receipt I could not bring it back to exchange with a new one. So after telling my husband this, he went somewhere else and bought another AC (it was during a heat wave we had no choice). Pissed, because we were out the amount of money we had spent at Walmart for the AC that wasn't any good, I e-mailed Walmart Corporate and left my contact info including my phone number. At that point I didn't think anything would come of it, I just figured it's policy that if you don't have the actual receipt you are $h!t out of luck. Walmart corporate called my local Walmart and had a manager from my local Walmart call me. He told me to bring the AC back and since I had to buy a new one somehwere else that they would issue me store credit in a Walmart gift card if that was ok with me. That suprised me, and I was pleased with the outcome. You should leave your number they may try to contact you and make it right.

Jeepmom, I understand you not wanting to talk to them, but honestly, if I recieved that letter I don't think I would just mail you a check/giftcard, etc without some sort of followup. I mean, in all reality, anyone could write a letter to corporate and say anything happened and just wait for a check in the mail. I'm not saying I don't believe you because I do- had my own issues with certain stores over the years- but I don't see any store just handing over GC's or checks from just someone writing a letter and no further contact or follow up. I'm sure they would want to know what cashier it was that was involved. I definitely agree with the others that you should give them your phone number so they can contact you.

In the letter I put the store # and cashier number.

You have a good point. I'll put my phone number on the paper but leave the line "I've said everything I want to say".

JeepMom, please include a photocopy of your receipt, which should show which register you checked out at, which store, and the time and date. With that info, they will know exactly which cashier did this if they want to investigate and/or fire her.

I never go to Wally World that I don't take a copy of their policy concerning coupons. I have had to ask for the manager once- most of the time they are OK. But I have had similar problems at Fred Meyers grocery- where she refused to take my manufacturers coupons saying I had too many. I had her call the manager and got it straightened out. I try not to be too snotty- but sometimes it is very hard to stay calm.

Walmart - well, it takes me 2 1/2 hours to get there; they have good bargains, and I must look up the store policy with reference to coupons. I did use one last time and had no problem. That does not mean there was not a problem. One of the purchases I made were 3 tubs of frosting. I needed it because our community was having our annual bake sale. I went to frost up what I had bake and the frosting was running everywhere. It was trash.

To make a long story short, I contacted Walmart and told them what had happened. Also that I would have to travel five hours round trip to return the product. The customer service representative that I spoke with was very nice, we actually had several laughs. About a week later, I received a very nice letter and a $25.00 gift certificate. I also can return the two tubs of frosting to any Walmart for full refund next time I shop at any Walmart.

When people who work in stores get bitchy with me, I tell them, geez, I hope you have a break coming up soon, cause - yikers - you need some chocolate. I have a few lines I use. I think you had a true bitch.

I am still in SHOCK after reading what happened to you! I have to agree with trax - sometimes you can diffuse the situation by acknowledging that someone might not be having a good day...but WOW...it really does sound like that cashier was a bonafide beeyotch.

I have to agree leave your number. And next time. DONT leave the store. Call 1-800 walmart. stand RIGHT there and do it.

I have done it and got someone kissing my ass RIGHT then. They send the manager to FIND you. like if you have a problem and you call and are still shopping they will ask you what isle you will be on and the manager comes to find you.

If there are more than 3 people in line, call. They will make the managers come and open regisesters. I kid you not. I called one day and the managers all came in droves. one of them was walking down carrying a till and saying "mrs Byerly? mrs Byerly?" to everyone. I told her it was me and she offered to check me out right then. I let others go infront of me. She actually told me that she didnt expect me to be that nice. I told her, I am a very nice person, but I worked as a cashier at the time and expected my hard earned money to be appriciated.

I had a sams employee scream at me once. I got a 50.00 gift card in the mail (he insisted on charging me 20.00 over the posted price).

Like Erins store (guess its an east Texas thing) they used to try and check our bags here. not a TV, but PAW through your bags. I would simply call bentonville. Then after a few documented conversations, calls back from the local managers etc. I just walk out. And I tell others that its not policy.

When they have a line of 18 people stacked up at the doors cause they have someone pawing through the bgs its NOT good service. They have sense quit for the most part. I ave actually had them try to chase me out the doors. for a few bags.

Hollering at me. I tell them that unless they plan to help me put it in my car, they aint touchin my crap. But if they want to help me load it up, to come on.

Today I had one like Karen. She made SURE all the heavy stuff was on bottom. she played with Bow, she scanned my coupons. SHE knew of a price match I had missed. She was wonderful.
