Happy May 24 Canadians!
I hope no one is camping this weekend, sounds like the nights might be a little cool and wet for that to be much fun. Have a great Victoria Day and travel safely if you are going anywhere!

I'm guessing that Victoria was a queen once? and if so, what are you celebrating? her birthday/death/what My calendar which tells me most Canadian and Mexican holidays doesn't mention anything for today....
Happy VDay nonetheless

Eh, if you are camping here in the interior of Beautiful B.C. it's hot - currently it is +32!

Guess the temp is relative to what you're used to! For us, a 32 would be a horribly cold winter day... mind you, I'm in SW Kentucky! But when I lived in MI, I might have agreed with you

32? Wow! Last night the low here was 5 (BTW that's celcius everyone)trax wrote:Eh, if you are camping here in the interior of Beautiful B.C. it's hot - currently it is +32!
Dee, the holiday would be on Monday, but there are celebrations all weekend long. Victoria was the longest reigning British monarch and a much loved queen. Her birthday was May 24, hence the nickname for the holiday (well that and the two four of beer you go through). The holiday is celebrated the weekend prior to the 24th of May because sticking holidays in the middle of the week would be silly.

Well I guess in these case, it wouldn't be appropriate to say "Long live the Queen" would it

Only if Queen Elizabeth happens to be in the country at the time I suppose.

Re: Happy May 24 Canadians!
Happy Victoria Day Weekend to you all!!! For those of you from the States, Victoria Day is on Monday, 5/19, and it celebrates the Queen of England. It always coincides with Memorial Day and it is a huge holiday up here. It celebrates also the Independence of Canada (I hope I got that right as I am an American turned Canadian). We do fireworks and all that jazz.
Unfortunately we will be staying home. My hubby is in the restaurant biz so he always has to work those long weekends.
LOL!, Dee 32 in BC is actually not Fahrenheit but Celsius. I think it is appox 90 degrees F.
Anyway, have fun whatever you do!!!

well 90 F is a whole different story... heck that's even hotter than here in KY !
BYW, Memorial day, here, is the 26th, well observed, as the actually date is May 31st. Anything for a 3-day work weekend, I guess I wouldn't know, since I'm not among the employed population, nor do I want to be!
Nighty Nite ...

I'll join your celebration, too!
Re: Happy May 24 Canadians!
I think a large portion of the world will celebrating that day! I don't even care who comes next.... Mccain, Clinton, Obama, an orangutan. Anyone will be an improvement.

What's wrong with celebrating a beer once a yearNichellelp wrote:tara wrote:make me very thankful we don't have a Bush day.... I'll celebrate when he is gone!

Well..... not quite! LOL! Canada is still part of the British Commonwealth so we don't have an Independence Day. Canada Day is July 1 and it's a bit different. although sort of along the same lines. My reply above gives a bit of an explanation about who Queen Victoria was and why we still celebrate her birthday.
Re: Happy May 24 Canadians!
Oops sorry Rebecca. It's what my hubby said so I was paraphrasing. LOL! I don't really get all these holidays but I just go with the flow. That's how I live.

As long as you understand about the two four part of the weekend you'll be ok!
Re: Happy May 24 Canadians!
Anyone had fireworks this weekend? My neighbours had some last night (in the rain ) and my poor dog has been a basket case ever since!
Re: Happy May 24 Canadians!

Re: Happy May 24 Canadians!
I'm from Victoria, BC and they had a wonderful parade each year. It was filled with a lot of American Schools... which is kind of funny. But it was really good. No parade where I live now, but it is considered to be the first weekend that you can plant here so the garden centres have been crazy all weekend. I know we spent most of the weekend in the garden. And to think just a few weeks ago we had a blizzard and couldn't walk out our front door for the snow. This weekend, it was in the 90s.
Re: Happy May 24 Canadians!
It's pretty chilly here still -- and rainy too! It kind of made me glad I work midnights all weekend and didn't have to look at the rain all day.
There used to be fireworks in the park here, but not anymore. I just got Devon out of bed because the neighbours had some fireworks that he could see from our window. He thought that was pretty cool, but the dog didn't -- he was grabbing Devon's pj's and trying to pull him back to bed! LOL!
