Christmas tree

When we were packing to move, we threw out our old Christmas tree, we'd had it for 9 years and so many needles had fallen off it that there were big holes that you could see through. Kris said we could have a new tree for the new house. We were thinking about waiting, but I found this one online and it looks like it's a good deal for the size tree that we want. The last tree we had was one that was a 90% clearance at Kmart, we got it for $13.00. If we waited until Lowe's or the other stores had them we probably wouldn't get one this size/type for this price. I don't know much about tips and whatnot, it has 2100+ tips it says and it's a 7.5 ft prelit tree. I thought about wanting to try a different color, but Kris is very traditional and we would end up having to buy another tree in a year or two if I got sick of a blue, chocolate or black tree. Atleast with the green I can change my ornament colors every year or so. Anyway, this is it..is this a good deal?

I love real trees so the prices shook me up a little but I can also see the benefits. It does look like a good deal based on what I was able to find. Much more expensive than a real tree I'm sure. Hubby and I don't believe in using a real tree, we love the smell of the real trees, though we feel bad about cutting down a tree to use it and then throw it out after (though we don't have a problem with those that do).
I just looked at it, and the price is certainly cheaper, though the more expensive one comes with Christmas tree storage bags and does have good reviews, the cheaper one doesn't have any customer ratings or reviews listed. Hmm dilemna..

Merry Christmas! I'm all for articificial trees... think green! I have an artificial tree in the attic, which I haven't bother to put up for probably 6 years... will give it GoodWill one of these days. I use a small table top these days... afteralll, it is just DH and I.

We get a real tree. We live on a farm so we don't have to pay for it. We just pick a tree that's in the way, LOL. There are always some trees that grow where we don't want them and most of them get cut before they get bid. But we let the pine trees grow a bit to see if they'll be pretty.

We always threaten to sneak into the someone's yard and cut down one of their trees since ours are scraggly and not pretty like the ornamental ones.

lol I think that real trees are beautiful, and I like that every branch is not uniform. We used to have real christmas trees when we were kids, and always LOVED that dad picked a Charlie Brown tree. I had a few real trees when the kids were little.
We do artificial now, I don't have to worry about cleaning up needles, my tree doesn't die before Christmas and I don't have to water it or throw it outside after...I do miss the real tree smell though...

I jumped on a sale like that when we got our pre lit from Tree Classics. The prices are shocking when not on sale.

I would still be getting real trees if my oldest wasn't so allergic to them. I miss the smell. I also miss having cats who would attempt to climb them every year, but that's another story.

Oh, and as far as "different" trees - I grew up in the 60's so we also had the silver aluminum tree with the color wheel that would rotate and project colors onto the tree. LOL I do NOT miss that.

actually, real trees are much more 'green' than everyone seems to think. You are NOT taking a tree from Gods green earth and destroying it, displacing all the pitiful little woodpeckers (sorry bastards) or cute chipmunks (rats with fluffy tails)- you are supporting a farmer, buying a renewable resource, and helping not only the enviroment and air quality, you are also helping the economy.

Tree farmers PLANT trees to sell, while they are growing they in turn help the earth with more oxygen, and keep erosion down. they also support familes in the farming industry AND seasonal workers to have a little more cash at Christmas, therefor infusing the economy.

Christmas trees are not cut willy nilly, desecrating the rainforrest or redwood forrst or piney woods. they are planted and made TO use. Then turned into mulch, or put to good use in other instances.

Where as artificcial trees are made of plastic, the making of which produces noxious gasses that destroy the ozone layer, cant be used to help your lawn, and pile up in landfills making New Jersey a bigger dump. and you are supporting China's economy, of course, 6 year olds need to work too- so its a trade off ;-) ROFLMAO

THat said, I go with artificial mostly now- I cant afford a nice tree every year. And we cut all our pine years ago- we clear cut the entire place- I dont like pine trees- they fall at the drop of a hat. Not to mention, we dont have 'christmas trees' we have lolly pines, or lobby, or something to that effect...

when we lived in South Texas we always cut down a cedar. thats what they have down there. They were ugly, cause they were just scrub bushes. bigger around than tall, and blech.. But they were free, and lord knows we couldnt afford to buy an artificial, heck it never even dawned on us in the 70's.

But the 'enviromental' loophole doesnt hold water anymore.

And I'd rather have a real tree. I love the smell, the beauty, and the fact that I am helping someone else. supporting the lifeblood of this country.

BUT, I also would like to get my tree up quicker, let it stay up longer, put heavier ornaments on it, vaccum less (like I dont have to vaccum once a day anyway...... ) , have it look more uniform, and save money.

Plus, I'm not big on bugs- although my fake tree does support many a spider family in the off season- so, I douse it with raid a week or so before I need to set it up. I dont like spiders and am on a personal mission to eradicate the earth of them.

Lori, my grandmother was a florist. She used to sell 'flocked' trees, or would come and flock your tree. she HATED the blue. ROFLMAO!

I bought the boys a green table top one, they decorate it in cowboys theme- (blue and silver) , and Rayley a pink one- she decorates it in lime green and purple and hot pink. Then we have the huge one in here.

Amen to all you said, Chelle. I'm surrounded by tree farmers and they manage their land very well. No deforestation going on here!

I've never heard of anything like that..lol I always thought the aluminum tree idea came from Charlie Brown. Well, you learn something new everyday.

Chelle, you are dead on about the trees. Scott has been thinking of starting a cut-your-own tree farm here because it would be a little extra money coming in when we retire and once they are established, there's not a ton of unexpected expenses like there can be with cattle farming. It's not like the trees need help giving birth or have to be fed, LOL. But we also liked how it was an environmentally friendly sort of thing. We could do it organically and not use chemicals if we wanted and the trees would still grow. They might take longer, but they don't actually Need the chemicals to do well.

I spent a considerable amount of time getting my Grandmothers old aluminum tree out of her attic last week, it was 180 degrees in there. It is in great condition and I am planning on using it....color wheel and all. It is about 10 feet, and heavy.
Dh is telling me NO, but I will use it....when he isn't here.

I like a real tree, but they make me sneeze, eye water, and the last one came with a rodent....ewww.
We have an artificial tree, several of them actually, so I guess I will stick with that.

Erin, every generation should get to enjoy the beautiful aluminum tree in full color-changing glory. Xander will LOVE it!

This tree is special, when I was little it "grew" silver dollars, real silver dollars. My grandfather dressed as santa, and picked them off the tree for us. Even if I never use it, I wanted it.

Artificial trees must be cheaper here. My 6 1/2 foot prelit tree was only $99 and then after we got it it went on sale for $79. I think the 8' ones run around $150 (reg price).

I'm allergic but we still get a real tree every year. I just try not to touch it and make someone else crawl under to do the watering.
