Re: Chelle?? Kelly? Cake people?
I don't know about the fondant chelle makes. My experience with fondant has only been limited to the boxed store bought fondant. That stuff did not get hard, if you refrigerated it, it would stiffen a little but be droopy. There are recipes to make gum paste online, but I believe you would still have to find Gum Tex or a similar product for that. Maybe there's a recipe that will make something that dries stiff .Maybe try stiffening fondant by kneading powdered sugar into it? I don't know....chelle might have more insight.. Hmm..I don't know if maybe you could make a mold for a palm tree leaves out of some soft fondant and then find some green hard candy (like the Jolly Rancher Green Apple sticks), melt it, pour it in your homemade mold and let it cool...?
Green fruit roll up would be too droopy...
.How big do the palm tree leaves need to be?

When I was making the flowers for my niece's cupcakes, Chelle recommended a mixture of the two for just that reason. Fondant would not dry or harden enough for the petals to hold their shape.

you all impress me so much... not to the point I'm going to start making cakes.... but just with your ambition and desire to make something more than just a box mix cake with maybe home made butter cream frosting :-)

Re: Chelle?? Kelly? Cake people?
sorry- Been busy researching a cake all day- I am supposed to make a freakin wedding cake- I HATE wedding cakes- I am NOT that good!! and this one is the cake from HELL. LOL
Yes, lori is right- fondant will harden to a point, but not near enough to be not droopy as far as leaves go- you can try to put it in the oven with the light on (NOTHING ELSE) the tartan I made on the last cake was all fondant, (wilton) but it had a ball of tinfoil under it all night, under the light and I still had to put a ball of fondant under it to set on the cake-
But the light will help dry it out.

IF you can find some tylose, you can put it in the fondant and it will allow it to harden.
