Re: Thousand dollar wedding cake
A beautiful bride! A beautiful cake!
A light bulb went off in my head while reading these posts. I did not have a wedding cake. We had a quiet wedding; there was Gary and I, our dog, the county clerk, and two witnesses that we napped on the beach. We were married in a gazebo on the shores of the Pacific Ocean in Newport Beach, Oregon. Nothing fancy, I wore blue jeans and my Aunty purchased a small bouquet for me. But now, I Want My Cake!

Re: Thousand dollar wedding cake
That sounds like a great wedding, trax. Planning a wedding stinks. I'd have given it all up for something quiet and private at any point in the planning process.
And yes, you need a cake finally after all those years! You should just go order one one day out of the blue. Make it spontaneous, just like the wedding itself!

Re: Thousand dollar wedding cake
This was our cake. You can see the candles if you look. It was fancier than I'd wanted but it was all I could do to convince them to make it that simple, LOL. I think my exact instructions were a simple white cake with blue flowers, three layers, no pillars or anything fancy, and 26 candles around the bottom layer and 21 candles around the middle layer. I brought in my own topper so all they were supposed to add were flowers and candles. As you can see, they got more enthusiastic. But I liked it (and still do) and I was happy.
Trax, your wedding sounds ideal. If I were to do it all over again I'd do it just like that, except with cake.
You should surprise Gary one day and make a tiny little wedding cake for just the two of you.
Re: Thousand dollar wedding cake
I think I have HIA too!
I meant to say that Lori was sooo beautiful in that photo. Her cake was pretty (and didn't look fake at all) but SHE was gorgeous.

Re: Thousand dollar wedding cake
You know, I bake tons...cakes for our community bingo. Cookies, squares, pies. I just never thought until today, I have never had a wedding cake and yep, I want one. I must get ideas formulated. Simple, it must be - like our wedding was. I want that buttercream icing, a chocolate cake, maybe cherries (marashino - sp), industrial strength whipped cream...that oughta do it. Any ideas would be welcomed.
I never wanted the white wedding dress stuff wedding, I am not that type of person. But cake! Heck, I settled for a wedding supper of shrimp, potatoe salad, and bread in a camper at Newport Bay!
By the way, due to the rain on the coast of Oregon, our camper leaked. We were forced to sleep on the kitchen table - the darn table gave way about 3 a.m. - nearly killing our dog.
Oh, the bright boy reared up (the dog, not Gary), he lived. Actually, it will be 5 years tomorrow that, that precious four legged friend departed and crossed Rainbow Bridge.
I realmed it on to be near 25 years Gary and I have been together and you folks are correct - I am getting cake, even if I have to do it myself. It is my turn!

Re: Thousand dollar wedding cake
Good for you! But you must see if you can take pictures because I want to see this special cake.
Re: Thousand dollar wedding cake
Love your cake, Karen! I think it's funny that whoever made it just couldn't resist filling in the blank spots with frou-frou. Did the number of candles signify your ages? Did you light the candles on the cake and take pictures then?
I want to see more cakes!
I was a plain bride. Not beautiful. I've always said I come from "Sturdy Peasant Stock".

Re: Thousand dollar wedding cake
Lori, you are confusing plain with elegant. You were beautiful and elegant. I saw the pictures and there is no denying it.
Yes, the candles were our ages. I turned 21 the day before the wedding and Scott turned 26 the day after. And we did light them up and sing Happy Birthday at the reception. People thought it was strange, I'm sure. I still do a cake for each birthday every year. We are a good couple and we celebrate that, but we are also good individuals who each deserve to get some attention on their birthday. Besides, I like cake.
I think we did take pictures when it was lit up, but I'm not sure where they are.

I call that sweat, not radiance. It was the hottest most humid day of the whole year. It was awful, we were dying. They claimed that the A/C was on, but I didn't believe them.

Re: Thousand dollar wedding cake
Yu all have to prmoise not to laugh, and remember this was 87, I was 18...pregnant, and really did not care what colors, cake, or anything really....our sall JP wedding had turned into a 500 guest nightmare.
Anyway, here is the cake...the pic makes it look small, and the top got cut off in the pic.....it had some stuff on top. It was hte most hideous thing I had ever seen, and I spent the entire reception laughing at it. it did taste good though

Oh, it was...it really was.
It was kinda lopsided, and the icing was really bad looking...like it got dropped or something

Aw Trax, how sweet that sounds. I too had a very small wedding. But 37 years later, the love continues to grow.

Re: Thousand dollar wedding cake
OMG, Erin! That is one huge cake! It's like Lori's fake cake and my cake and a couple of other cakes put together.
I don't much care how good or bad a cake looks if it tastes wonderful. Yours is too over-the-top for me, but I'd still happily eat it. It probably tasted better than mine. Mine was plain old white cake with white frosting. It was good... but it wasn't either Scott's or my favorite flavor. If I'd thought about it I would have gone for something different like red velvet or chocolate or lemon cake. But I was just trying to get too much done in too short a time and didn't even think about what flavors we liked best.

Re: Thousand dollar wedding cake
I twas huge to the point of amusing. MY Mom had to "outdo" her friend. It was 8 smaller cakes, they were 9 inch 2 layers....and the top 2 layers were 18 and 17 inches, we had cake for days, literally. I twas a white cake, with almond flavor...was good.
Dh's cake was a giant bowl of Banana pudding and was super good.
DH and I had planned to go to the JP, with a few friends and close family. But no, my Mom had other ideas, keep in mind she did not raise me, nor want or like kids, but was a snob so had to put on the wedding of the freaking century, AND she threw it together in 6 weeks....
I seriously got gifts from people i had never ever met. We left the reception early, you do get tired when preggy...and went to Waffle house to eat. The food was better there than at the reception.
