A Wedding Of A Foreign Culture Empty A Wedding Of A Foreign Culture

Post by trax Tue Jul 15, 2008 7:37 pm

I am off to experience a wedding of a foreign culture. My nephew is marrying a young lady of sikh heritage. The wedding ceremony will take place at the temple on Saturday, July 19th. God the food, there is breakfast -then the wedding ceremony - then lunch. A western reception/dance will be held starting at 6 p.m. I have done some research on the ceremony, so as I do not bow when I should be standing. It has been a learning experience. Learning their traditions and how important every little thing can be. The wedding ceremony last for approximately three hours. The events prior to are four days.

As you enter the temple, you remove your shoes. Ladies wear a long dress or pants. I chose to wearing a black jumpsuit and have a special scarf for my head, everyone has to have their head covered. Ladies on one side, men on the other. You sit on the floor, padded - thank god - my husband is old, his knees are not in good shape (and - he has to pee often). lol!

I am certain they will not playing any John Prine. However, I will be bowing to the scriptures and placing money in some holy box - wishing the Mr. & Mrs. ~ Best Wishes.

I would love to hear all about it! Three hours is a LONG time, I'd be fighting to stay awake in one place for that long, lol. Of course moms of toddlers do not get the opportunity to sit in one spot for more than 2 minutes... my butt wouldn't know what to do.

I hope you have a great time

I bet it's a beautiful wedding! If I remember correctly the bride wears a very ornate red outfit. I'm jealous!

The wedding events were spectacular! A wonderful celebration and a great learning experience. The folks were all very helpful and guided you when they saw you vearing off course. I veared several times. The wedding ceremony was beautiful. They had a hindu band that reminded me of George Harrison and a big screen which translated their language to english. The bride did wear red, a beautiful outfit. It was very emotional for me - they have big love and faith. All in all, it was not as great as seeing John Prine, but well up there. Wink
