Happy Made Up Holiday!

Today is a holiday in some Canadian provinces. The government decided we needed a break in February so they made up a holiday called Family Day a couple of years ago. It's nice to have the extra day with dh, but it does seem kind of funny to have a random long weekend with no traditions or real meaning.

LOL! We have President's Day today and banks and the post office are closed. Then it snowed a little last night so they cancelled school. There was no need... only like a half inch of snow on the ground. But I think they just wanted a holiday, too.

when I was in school, we always got president's day off...we either got a four day weekend or the two mondays off. Even at the the community college I got it off, then i transferred to a state university..all we got off there was Cesar Chavez day as dead presidents mean nothing to them.

Presidents day is always winter break here, never school.

So do families get to spend time together on Family Day? Or do most people still have to work?

No family day, but my friend who lives in Ottawa was dreading it....she doesn't especially like her kids that much

I had to work last night into this AM, but it was time and a half. The stores were all closed, but restaurants were open. I don't know what most people did, but after I woke up this afternoon we just killed time around the house and then I picked up supper. I have decided that I don't cook on Family Day. LOL!

Presiden'ts day... stores open with sales galore... like President's went and bought stuff this day LOL

Normally a school holiday, but because they schools have missed 7 days already, they decided to have kids use this as a snow make up day... but then, schools got cancelled due to maybe an inch of snow overnight (gone off the streets by 10)... so does that mean then now have 2 more days to make up

Schools close when there is littel snow or chance of some... mainly because our kids in the county have to ride the bus into the city for school... and our county roads are difficul on a dry day for the buses!

We have never been out on Pres day, nor MLK day.
