About a month ago Scott and I made bunk beds for Zoe and Quinn. It took forever because we kept having minor details go wrong that delayed the work. But anyhow, I finally was able to post the pictures I took of the finished project. My computer's been wonky and wouldn't upload them. I'm not even going to attempt to upload again, but here's the link to the pictures on my blog. I'm super proud that we did it all ourselves, from designing the beds to staining and cutting the wood, right down to sewing the tent we put on the top bunk and the curtain that's on the bottom.

That looks like a great family project. I'll bet they love it. I think it's so comforting knowing that your parents are willing to make something designed just for you. They have to feel like the luckiest kids ever.

Thanks! If you want dry erase stuff, use the bath panels that they sell at Lowe's. It's the exact same stuff they sell as dry erase boards, but half the cost and 4 times as big. They'll cut it for you, too. Just tell them what size you want the pieces to be.

I am so impressed, but not surprised... when you do something, you do it in a grand way! What kid wouldn't love the write on walls, the canopy, the buck with chalk, and the system to bring toys to the top level. Can I come live at your house?

Thanks, Dee. We try really hard to make sure that each of the kids gets a few special things.

Connie, I can't make one for you, but I'm planning on writing it all out and putting the instructions on eHow. We actually did this instead of buying a new one because this would be cheaper. Our goal was to keep it under $200 (not including the matresses) but it came out about $300 because of adding the tent, pulley, etc. I'd have to add up the receipts to see. And then, of course, I wanted new sheets and blankets because all ours were for full beds. But even with that, it was way cheaper than buying it from a store. I could have done it over two weekends or maybe only one if I was super industrious and had nothing else to do. It took us longer because we kept having bad weather and I refuse to paint or stain inside the house. That and we're always disorganized.
