Stupid Question Empty Stupid Question

Post by thebigscott Mon May 18, 2009 2:58 pm

I never boil eggs. Can't stand them boiled. I don't even boil them at Easter most years. I blow the guts out and make french toast. But this year we boiled some and Zoe had them and liked them. She just asked me for a boiled egg. How long do I boil it?

I time them for 10 minutes once the water starts boiling.

I saw a trick on Paula Deen once and have tried it and it works. Just heat the water until it's almost ready to boil (you know when the bubbles are lining the sides and bottom of the pan?) then cover it for 10-15 minutes and it is fully cooked without having to keep the burner going and it boiling away forever. I have tried it 5 or 6 times and they were cooked every time.

That is cool, Kelly. And easy to remember. If she decides she wants them regularly, I'll do it that way in the future.

I thought it was cool too because I didn't have to keep babysitting the pot. It was a done deal after trying it and realizing the eggs were cooked all the way through and I have cooked them that way since.

I boil them at a hard boil for 10 minutes or so. I like them DONE, not still mushy inside. My kids will eat a dozen or so boiled eggs a week.

Me too. I've tried the 15 minutes in the pan trick, and mine were not done. I buy the largest eggs I can get, though.

Hmm that's funny, mine have always been cooked..I buy large eggs...

i dunno Karen, I guess you will have to try it for yourself and see if it does the trick for you.. Just remember when you try it to heat the water till it just starts to boil, leave it on the hot burner, but turn the burner off and put the cover to the pot on and leave it for 15 minutes. I don't like mine mushy either and they come out fine...course I dont' like it boiled so hard that I could play a round of golf with it either..

ALSO, if you put a pinch of salt in the water they peel easier.

My kids want to be able to play golf with them. LOL. I don't eat eggs, so I don't know.

When I first met DH he used to eat a soft boiled egg every day for breakfast. He likes those. But when he wants them boiled, he wants them boiled. LOL I hate surprises when I crack them open.

I had to use this website (at least I think this was the website I used... it has the same thing that I used last time). It didn't give me the grey ring or the green ring, etc.

http://www.ehow.com/how_2047398_boil-perfect-hard-boiled-egg.html

They turned out PERFECT! I can't boil eggs either very well until this website showed me how.
