Today's crappy news
Despite yesterday's news that Scott got a perfect score on his evaluation, his principal asked to speak to him after school and told him that due to budget cuts they won't have a position for him next year. Crap, crap, and crap. I'm not only bummed that he won't have a job and we won't have money, I'm pissed that he had to tell us today and we didn't even really have a chance to celebrate the good news about the evaluation. He could have waited until Monday. We were gonna go out to dinner this weekend just the two of us. The principal said he'd hire him if there was money but he won't know until the state approves the budget changes, which will be at the end of June.
I'm not sure what this means long term. All the public schools are having budget problems because of the economy. The crash in real estate values and the unemployment rate means the tax base is down and the state isn't able to make their budget. Private schools and even colleges are hurting, too. So maybe Scott won't teach next year. He does have a car business ready to go, which is what he was gonna do before he got offered this job, but again... crappy economy means crappy sales.
Meanwhile, we get paid through the summer and he already has a job teaching with a summer program so we'll be getting double pay for two months. Then who knows?

Oh shitty Karen. I'm so sorry. My brother is losing his job too, he was told they may vut it all together and even if not, the other teacher from last year who swore there was no way she was returning... has decided to return. He has applications in at schools closer to home but being a music teacher those positions are at the top of the cut list, it doesn't look good on the education font here either leaving me another mouth to feed
Re: Today's crappy news

So sorry to hear that Karen. I will hope good things work out for you. If he sells used cars, in a bad economy people look more for those, so there is hope if the teacher job doesn't work out for him. Keep us updated.

Re: Today's crappy news
Thanks guys. It means a lot to me to be able to come here and bitch and y'all not just think I'm being whiney. I know we have it far better than many. I'm just bummed because we didn't even really get a moment to enjoy the good part of the week. He'd worked so hard to get everything in and done for yesterday that when he came home we just basically had dinner and went to bed. Too tired to celebrate. Then today when we got the bad news it was kind of like having yesterday taken away. We don't feel like celebrating much and even if we did, we now know we have to be watching every penny.
Thankfully, I haven't gone on any major spending sprees lately. I've been being careful with our money just in case. Sadly, we had some unexpected bills crop up last month. We were able to pay them, but our emergency fund got wiped out. Again, we're better off than many. We'll get by. It's just today was hard.

Re: Today's crappy news
I'll keep my fingers crossed for you! Maybe there will be a lot of retirements they need to fill.
Re: Today's crappy news
I'm also keeping my fingers crossed that finances in the school budget change for the better. This is the time of year that our school board feels it has to announce layoffs just in case. They always try to keep the positions filled if they can possibly find a way. They don't want to lose Scott, trust me.
And I hope the car business takes off, too. People are afraid to take out a large loan on a new car now, so the timing is great.
