Had a good evening...
We just came back from going to the local FFA banquet. My son was getting his Greenhand Degree. Funny isn't it how time passes? Back in 1987 I was in FFA and recieved my Greenhand Degree when I was a Freshman in High School. I then went on to be in FFA all four years of high school serving as Chapter Reporter for the first 2 years and Vice President for the last two. Now I get to watch JJ kind of follow in the same footsteps, how weird it felt. Had that much time gone by already? The FFA advisor is the same advisor I had when I was in school...albeit he was 22 years younger...it was a nice evening though and it kind of took me back in time, I felt like it wasn't all that long ago since I was up there just like them...

Thanks, Tara is right, the Future Farmers of America, you don't have to be a farmer or from a farming family to be in it. This area Aroostook County is a big potato farming region, so agriculture is important around here. Maine is second after Idaho for potato growing, and also big in broccoli, and blueberries. Blueberries are mostly downstate though. The Greenhand degree is the 1st level, or 1st designation you get when you first start being an active contributing member in your FFA chapter. The FFA does all kinds of stuff around here including a 5 acres of potatoes that the students themselves plant, pick, package, and deliver, and where they donate the potatoes to local soup kitchens and area groups that help distribute food to low income, and those in need. They also do services for the community such as planting the flowers throughout the downtown area. When I was in Caribou FFA we helped build the Trans Atlantic Balloon Site up here. He should be able to fit in both Civil Air Patrol and FFA if he manages his time.
Not that anyone is interested, but there is a TransAtlantic Balloon site link
