thanksgiving dinner favorite Empty thanksgiving dinner favorite

I am 40 years old and this will be the first time I am making thanksgiving dinner. I know i just have been lucky to always go to family. Well i am ok with the turkey I just need suggestions for side dishes. I found a recipe for sausage stuffing, what are your favorite side dishes that you just have to have. If you have a favorite recipe that you would share that would be great. thanks

1 pound Bob EvansŪ Savory Sage or Original Recipe Sausage Roll
1 large onion, diced
3 stalks celery, diced
1 (14 ounce) package cubed stuffing
1 teaspoon poultry seasoning
2 1/2 cups chicken broth
1/2 cup melted butter
In a large skillet over medium heat, crumble sausage. Add onion and celery and cook, stirring occasionally until sausage is brown. In a large bowl, place cubed stuffing. Add sausage mixture. Sprinkle with poultry seasoning. Pour broth and butter over the top and toss to combine. Spoon mixture into a 9x13 inch baking dish; cover. Bake at 350 degrees F for 45 minutes.

I don't know how many people you'll be feeding, but a big hint is to make way more stuffing than you t hink you'll need. It really cooks down, and you can never have too much!

I'll look through my recipes later, I'm off to shop.

If you're having kids over, one thing my kids love to do is make "fluffy foam pies". I just get mini graham cracker pie crusts (they come 6 to a package) and cool whip and chocolate syrup or vanilla and they mix the cool whip and syrup until it's however chocolatey they want it and scoop it into the pie crusts. They feel all fancy liked they cooked a dessert and it ends up tasting kind of like a mousse. Very simple, fun and everything wipes up easily. Plus no cooking, no raw eggs, and no measuring.

I am cooking for 6 adults one child. Just need some good side recipes. something that is a must have at your dinner table. i would like it to be easy but i want to impress the in laws

Corn Casserole

1 can cream style corn
1 8oz brick cream cheese
1 stick butter ( I use 1/2)
1 box JIFFY corn muffin mix


Mix together, bake at 350 till done

Corn bread dressing

1 Pan baked cornbread ( I use my 12" iron skillet, so ALOT of cornbread)
1 head celery
1 large onion
1 cup chopped pecans
1/2 cup chopped turkey livers and gizzards
1 bunch chopped green onions
2-3 cups turkey drippings and broth
salt and pepper to taste

Mix all together in pan to "dressing like consistency) and bake at 350 till done.

Disclaimer: I do not ever measure anything I cook, so this one is approximate

DUTCH APPLE PIE


I make this every year for Thanksgiving and Christmas and there is never a piece left. my husband sometimes requests that I make an extra pie because he loves this so much.

Whatever kind of apple you prefer. I buy empires because they aren't too sour or sweet and they are cheap. Since the empires are small apples and I have a deep dish pie plate I buy two bags of apples and it makes enough filling for 1 and a half pies. Usually I make one pie and I will take the extra pie crust and make turnovers with the rest of the filling and drizzle glaze on them.

Cut up all the apples and put them in a pot, ad 2 cups white sugar, and turn the burner on medium and stir, it makes it's own sauce. Cook until the apples are tender, add a few teaspoons of cornstarch to thicken the sauce and then add cinnamon to taste, remove from burner. I personally don't like a lot of cinnamon, so I add a tablespoon, sometimes a little more. Let the filling cool a tiny bit while making the Dutch Apple crumble topping.


Topping ( I usually triple this because I like a thicker crumble which covers all the apple and I dont' make my pies flat, I fill the crust stuffed with apple filling and wok the crumble right to it. )
3/4 cup flour
1/4 cup white sugar
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup butter or margarine (room temp)
Mix above ingredients together until coarse and crumbly

Bake at 375 degrees for about 40 min (make sure to cover your crust with foil for about the first 20 min and then take it off about the last 20 to 15 min so it doesn't burn)

Ever since I started making this pie my family doesn't want me to make any other kind..though I kind of miss having pumpkin pie Sad

My mother in law makes a yummy candied yam/sweet potato thing. I can't remember how she makes it but it's with sweet potatoes, marshmallows, brown sugar, butter, and normally raisins! It's SOOOO good. I'll have to get the recipe from her and post it.
