Re: Jokes ?
This is hilarious - no wonder some people were offended! This is the message that the Pacific Palisades High School California staff voted unanimously to record on their school telephone answering machine.
This is the actual answering machine message for the school. This came about because they implemented a policy requiring students and parents to be responsible for their children's absences and missing homework.
The school and teachers are being sued by parents who want their children's failing grades changed to passing grades - even though those children were absent 15-30 times during the semester and did not complete enough school work to pass their classes.
The outgoing message:
Hello! You have reached the automated answering service of your school. In order to assist you in connecting to the right staff member, please listen to all the options before making a selection:
To lie about why your child is absent - Press 1
To make excuses for why your child did not do his work -Press 2
To complain about what we do - Press 3
To swear at staff members - Press 4
To ask why you didn't get information that was already enclosed in your newsletter and several flyers mailed to you - Press 5
If you want us to raise your child - Press 6
If you want to reach out and touch, slap or hit someone - Press 7
To request another teacher, for the third time this year - Press 8
To complain about bus transportation - Press 9
To complain about school lunches - Press 0
If you realize this is the real world and your child must be accountable and responsible for his/her own behavior, class work, homework and that it's not the teachers' fault for your child's lack of effort: Hang up and have a nice day!

Re: Jokes ?
Well, it's funny as a joke, but if I got that message on my kids' school answering machine, I'd be pissed beyond belief. Because for every good teacher out there, there's some *&#$% who needs to be taught a lesson. I've only had a few teachers be abusive or belittling to my kids, but I've seen it happen a lot. My best friend's son ended up in the hospital because the school staff couldn't be bothered to read the directions on his prescription medication and overdosed him. He's in high school and they won't let him administer his own drugs. Plus, it's for ADHD, so by the time he needs the next dose he's not fit to administer it himself. But they didn't read the label and he spent five days in the hospital. If I had my children treated like second class citizens and then got a message like that, I'd sue, too.
Re: Jokes ?
But this is about people who think the rules don't apply to them. If my kid decides to skip school repeatedly and not hand in work- then I would hope he along with anyone else (I'm not talking real illness or accident) who did the same shouldn't be passed. Calling up and saying "but yeah he's a good kid..." shouldn't entitle them to be passed and the teachers sure as hell should not be sued for refusing to bend the rules for them.
Re: Jokes ?
Oh, I agree with that. I'm just thinking of all the parents who are doing their best getting that sarcastic message.
Re: Jokes ?
I can assure you, very few parents ever call to say thanks. Just being the president or secretary of the PTA or even the year I was a board member at large, I got more cussins than I have ever thought I would get in my entire life time.
and I have been sitting in the front office when parents call to holler at the secretary cause thier kid wasnt at the right choice carnival. The same kid who decided he didnt want to sit in his desk and be quiet as opposed to standing in his chair and rapping some song about Ho's and pimps, so he threw about 3 chairs, desks and kids all over the place.
There was also the cussin I witnessed in the office because a teacher expected to be called MS smith instead of Barbara, by a student and for the children to use ma'am and sirs, not yeps and nopes.
Granted, I have had a bad teacher, and I have heard some true horror stories. But I have seen the 'not my kid' witches come in too. And have offered to meet more than one who called me to cuss me for something beyond my controll, or that I had no hand in.
