My sister won a contest Empty My sister won a contest

Post by Lori Mon Oct 26, 2009 4:20 pm

My sister just emailed me and she won a contest for 3 nights at an all-inclusive Beaches resort in either Turks & Caicos or Jamaica.
cheers

I'm so excited for her. It doesn't include airfare, so I hope she still accepts. She never seems to get a vacation.

I haven't been to either, but I'm not much of a beach person.

I hqve been to Jamacia, geesh, 40 years ago, and I too would swim there if I thought I could make it! Beautiful beaches, sands, "bars" and people! I hope your sister takes up the offer as well... air fairs can sometimes be gotten for good prices.

Yeah, now she's stressing about getting a passport. I know, they aren't cheap. I still need to get one before our cruise because we fly into Vancouver.

I didn't need a passport in '85 when I went to Barbados. Didn't need one the bazzillions of times I've been to Canada. Didn't need one in '83 for Mexico. I guess it won't hurt me to finally get one.

things have changed, yup you need a passport to get to Alaska, if you'er driving, Canada and Mexico.... but not Porta Rico.... but think they might cost around $25.... but then not sure. I think of the zillion times Chuck and I drove to Mexico when we lived in Calif... no problems!

Lori do you guys have enhanced licenses for Canada like we do? It's like $30 more than a normal license and can be used in place of a passport for Canada for New Yorkers.

Yeah, we have them - I think. We are surrounded by Ontario with crossings from Detroit/Windsor, Port Huron/Sarnia and Sault Ste. Marie, MI /Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. DH has been on my back to get a Passport, though so I think I'll suck up the extra bucks and get one. The license thing - I don't know, I just haven't noticed it or something. I have renewed by mail for years and years so maybe that's why.

I hope she goes. I know that airfare and passports and other expenses add up, but it will still be a great trip for a much lower price than she would otherwise get.

If she can just get there and back again (ha! The title of the book Bilbo Baggins wrote!) it's an all-inclusive, and even includes all activities.

OK, my sister and BIL are back from their trip. She said it was incredible. I had told her to drink a Mai Tai for me and she said she had several. It was truly all-inclusive - their room even had a fully stocked bar in it so they could open a bottle of wine or have a drink whenever they wanted without having to leave the room. She said snorkeling was so much fun. They did it once from a ship that takes you out to a reef and once just from the beach. She said they were in an area they weren't really supposed to be in and they saw a barracuda. She described another fish that blended into the sand so you would have never known it was there unless you had seen it burying itself.

I'm so glad they went, they had a great time. Oh, and they chose the Turks & Caicos resort, not Jamaica.

I'm so glad she got to go. You don't get many chances like that in life so it's important to grab them when you can.
