Swine Flu - Page 3 Empty Re: Swine Flu

Post by thebigscott Wed Apr 29, 2009 6:59 pm

According to the CDC, influenza and pneumonia combined kill about 60,000 people in the US every year. To put that in perspective, murder and suicide combined kill about the same number. Heart disease kills ten times as many, over 600,000.

So while swine flu sucks, we're at more risk from overeating and not exercising.

I'm only a little more worried about swine flu right now then I normally would have been (which I wouldn't really have been) because of Ceilidh's surgery. I do not want her to get sick before or after her surgery (until her face heals that is).

She never added that the child came directly from Mexico and was only in the USA visiting relatives. Way to cause a panic, idiot.

And after we all get our knickers in a twist and fret ourselves sick, what exactly are we supposed to do about it? Nothing, not a thing we can do besides prevention, Wash your hands, keep your fingers out of your nose, don't lick grocery carts.

Well now we are level 5. Biden mentioned on NBC this morning he wouldn't go in any confined spaces....subways, airplanes, CLASSROOMS. Ok then he tells us we shouldn't worry. What an idiot.

It was on our news last night that a plane was expected at the airport in Charleston with people coming in from Mexico. Do they scrub these planes down as a precaution, or just hope for the best? I can't see them doing that, and then they wonder why it is spreading.
One of the news anchors on a local station just got back from Cancun. She was tested, but won't have results until today. But in the mean time, she has returned to work, and if she does test positive, has she spread it to others she works with? She says she doesn't feel sick, but I would think that she could still carry that germ whether she comes down with the flu or not.
They were saying on the news today also that it is expected the level will go to 6 today, the highest it can go.

I have heard nothing to indicate they clean anything coming from Mexico. They are passing out cards at the airport before people board so they can 'self-confess'. The card asks things like, Are you feeling well? doh How many Mexicans can they get in a plane? If you knew everyone around you was getting sick with a deadly virus, wouldn't you think of leaving the country?

Apparently msnbc said that they got a note from the White House saying that Biden's comments on nbc this morning were 'imprecise'. LOL

The hospital I used to work at started planning for a pandemic outbreak 4 years ago. I remember them telling us it would/could be possible to quarantine the hospital and that all employees that were there at the time, would not be allowed to leave for possibly days. If you were not working, you would be called in and expected to come to work.
Makes me glad I am not there any more.

I wouldn't want to work in a hospital. They keep saying don't bother wearing masks they don't really help. So how does that make our healthcare professionals feel?

Swine Flu - Page 3 Empty Re: Swine Flu

Post by chelle Thu Apr 30, 2009 11:50 pm

Well, they have canceled everything at our schools.
We have a HUGE end of year carnival. Just the kids in our school. 3rd grade goes out half a day, 4th grade the other half.

They cancled it. they decided that its best to keep them in 30X30 rooms closed up and breathing each others snot all day, then to let them go and run around in the sunshine and fresh air. On 2 acres of ground!!

No track and field day next week. I guess they might get an infection from the birds at the park..
(we take such large groups they close down the park and we are the only ones there)

No bulldog store, us parents in the PTA cant come in and set up the store for AR kids (got points for reading books) or the friday store. We cant go in and get the mothers day projects done. NOTHING.

They already dont have volunteers up there. Its me and maybe 2 other moms. hell, we send OUR kids to school there every day. STUPID IDIOTS.

And the school is recomending that we stop baseball (little league- they cancled school sports already) ----- OMG.

THis is really starting to get on my last nerve. Do you KNOW how many illnesses are running rampant every day when you step foot in walmart? and GOD FORBID you go to the Dr Office.
Everything. Shingles, chickenpox, TB, the flu (not H1N1, but regular influenza), common colds, dysentary, just normal diareah, stomache virus'. The freaking sneeze guard at the local buffet has more germs on it than a bathroom floor.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGgg
sorry for the vent. But I just think its retarted.

Is that what the government wants schools to do? I thought they wanted to give schools the option to close if they have confirmed cases of Swine Flu (or Pig Flu or whatever they want us to call it now). But nobody at your school is sick, are they? This just doesn't make sense.

And if I was you, Chelle, I would damn sure want my Mother's Day gifts!

I have not heard anything about our schools closing, so far. Bay said they are not even talking about it, other than sending home a paper with the symptoms, and asking you to keep your germs at home if need be.

What gets me is that the govt. says " dont worry, " " worry" don't freak out, but don;t fly or go anywhere by train, don't be in enclosed spaces, but yet nothing to worry about . I mean seriously, make up your damn mind.,

Honestly, i am more worried about getting the Pox again....man that sucked. I would be seriously ticked if they cancelled ball games, and I am wondering if that is not about to happen......there was a LL board meeting last night.

AND I woke up with a giant zit this morning that Dr Google ( Bay) has diagnosed as MRSA. I know it is a pimple, but dr google is all about gloom and doom, she is still convinced that the virus she had was Ebola. Shocked

RFLMAO you hve GOT to keep that kid away from a computer! LOL and the TV.

Girl the rumors are RAMPANT! they are all over town saying the parade, rodeo and all bass tournaments are shut down. LOL

IDIOTS.

Lori, I dont know what the goverment wants anyone to do. Well except Biden... They want him to SHUT THE HELL UP! LOL

They are so agervating. I mean we hear BE SURE TO COME TO SCHOOL!! (cause they get paid for each ass in a seat) BUT, dont go to places where people gather and use caution.

Uhhhh... you have (in my kids school alone.. 2 grades) 500 kids. Like all of them are clean and healthy? *SNORT* yet, we shouldnt go to the ball park for fear of someone sneezing on us....

They dont know yet what they are going to do. I for one am NOT worried about it. But I am tired of the HYPE!

heck, my kids came home from playing ball last night. both of them fell in the floor. forcing coughs, saying they were sick. stomache aches and such. Didnt want to go to school today. since they have to work and not go to the carnival. I played along last night. doped them up with benadryl. This morning same thing.. all the carrying on... truley acting sick.

I told them fine. Lets load up, take you to the ER> then they will quarenteen the house, no NRA banquet, no baseball next week. 10 days minimum for quarenteen.

They jumped up, got dressed and kissed me bye.

There is a case here, in the next county/town. A 9yo girl. My friend will probably be on a swine Flucation now, the kid was in her class.

I did find a definition, at urban dictionary...it's fitting

problem saturation

A process by which Mainstream Media addresses an issue incessantly, building up to a sense of pending doom. Of course, the problem, while worrisome, does not pose the grave threat they would like you to believe. Finally, MSM abandons coverage of the problem completely, moving on to another problem

Also see:
