Looks like Hurricane Fay is on it's way!

Too early to tell yet, but the path does seem forecasted headin towards Tampa. I'ts going over a lot of land though, so hopefully it'll throw it off or calm it down.

The first day of school is Monday. They are already talking about 'IF' school starts because of the storm. Rolling Eyes

What are heater meals ?

I've never lost power for more than 2-3 days ..... usually can survive off of chef boyardee and pop tarts. lol

Tomorrow I'll be getting the 'panic' call from my ex husband who will have made arrangements to 'shelter' our son .... *sigh* I should have married a Floridian.

OK they sound NASTY!

Yeah, I used to piss my ex off my going out and walking in the storm. Then I started taking my son out for walks too .... I mean, I'm not putting us in danger, I'd stay inside when it's really bad, but storms are a neat phenomenon, and we like to explore Smile

A few years ago, when the 4 hurricanes hit Florida, I think I only had my son for one of them! LOL! It's easier for me to let him go with his dad, then to get the constant phone calls checking up on us.

Post by chelle Sun Aug 17, 2008 12:52 am

hehehehehehe, I still have my 'hunker down' shirt! Smile

Y'all get electric back pretty quick down yonder. Like Erin said, we were over a month with out it. But we did get water back pretty quick. Our county commishener hijacked a truck carrying industrial ones. Told them they couldnt cross the county lines (we were in lock down) unless they gave us one. They did. LOL He didnt steal it, it was govt issue, but was headed for places east of here.

and the heater meals are fun to cook, but nasty to eat. And I swear, my kids wont TOUCH raviolis or chef boy ardee, or that crappy spagetti he makes. THey refuse. They remember eating it from then. daily. everytime they got hungry. LOL

maybe she will hit some cool water before she hits there beachy. Since our town went 'wet' last month i will go and try to find me something to drink in your honor. solidarity and all that Smile of course it will have to be a beer product, I am too lazy to drive to the liquer store, and we just now got beer in town for the first time since prohabition. Smile LOL

Time to stock up on the Captain! 439161 Cheers Chelle!

The map keeps bringing it more my way, although it's only forecasted to be a Cat 1.

The last real hurricane we had hit near us was Jean. The transformer is in the corner of my yard. It exploded and took out power for the whole neighborhood, cuz the power company refused to trim the tree around it. I refused as well, telling the power company that they could then trim it when the power went down Wink and it did.

That day, with beer in hand, I put on a tight shirt and started roaming the neighboorhood looking for power company fellas. I found a group from NC. I wasn't on their list to fix, but I flirted and offered beer, and they came over a few hours later and fixed the power Smile

I had a neighbor at the time that was a lesbian. She told me if I could convince the guys to get the power on, she's 'take one for the team' and reward them ! Time to stock up on the Captain! 363723 People do crazy things without air conditioning! In the end, I believe she grilled some burgers and fed the guys and gave them beers at the end of the day. lol

Oh, I didn't mention the worst thing about hurricanes ..... my mother evacuates to my house. lol

I'm only 3 miles from the beach, she is 9 miles from the beach, but she's in a manufactured home, and they mandate evacuations.

She's a great mom, but my house is small, and she's never happy here.

I sucked it up and bought water and propane, which I needed anyway. I've got 1.5 liters of Captain and a bottle of grey goose, if anyone wants to join my mother at our hurricane party!

All my neighbors had elec for over a week before I did. I am a leg off the main one. and since I had just gotten electric about 2 months before (noone had ever lived here before) they forget about me.

when I decided they wernt overwhelmed anymore Icalled the Coop and asked.

But since I was in a travel trailer I wasnt with out anything. One plug runs the whole thing, so I had AC and my puter Smile

Wow, excellent! The only thing I really don't like about losing power is losing the air conditioning! I can make do with ice and candles etc .... and I can charge the cell off the car, etc ....

I'll keep my fingers crossed for them Smile
Usually with this strength of storm, most we get is loss of power, and some local flooding ...... although I did lose 1/2 a tree once.

The worst part is, we're on the ass end of the storm ..... the wind/rain whips worse on the right hand of the storm than the left ....... so we get the weather for a longer period.

Keep us posted on your daughter!

Well, just as I imagined, my ex called today and near DEMANDED my son Rolling Eyes

I made a few smart as comments, but ultimately let him pick up the kiddo, because the schools are closed tomorrow and I have to work for now ( we may close the store tomorrow 10-12 ish, depending on the storm).

Today was the first day of school, and Dalton already has lots of homework ( clip and article, write a paragraph on the main point of the story, highlight any words he doesn't know ....... alphabatize spelling words, define them, and write it's place (noun, verb, etc ...) ....

I figure if ex wants him, he can make sure the homework is done!

You know, he's a good dad, and we co-parent fine, but I get really pissed when he acts this way!

I agree Karen!

He tested for gifted when he was in 2nd grade, and didn't get gifted status ( which I am thankful for!), however, he is really smart and is in all the gifted classes. He got straight A's every quarter in the 4th grade gifted class, and scored 99% on the stanford 9's.

His 4th grade class was a lot of work, but I didn't expect 5th grade to be this much harder! He was so concerned that he'd get into this gifted class this year, and now I think he's already apprehensive because of all the homework he was assigned!

The teacher guarenteed us that the homework would all be things the kids could complete independently, and I sure hope so ...... I'm not that smart! lol

I have not managed to talk to her today, but as of last night she didn't have any problems. I am hoping that is still the case today. They are supposed to get lots of rain and I guess it can come into condos on upper floors. They are on the 4th floor, just recently moved from the ground floor. She has a friend who was flooded before on the 5th floor, so you never know I guess! Glad you did fine Beachy.
I heard it may turn and go back to the Gulf. Anyone know the latest on that?

Excellent news Honey. I know it's bad of me, but I temd not to do much in way of extra preperation until it's at least a CAT 2.

Last map I saw it looked like it was going to cross the state, hit the atlantic and turn back towards GA. It seems like it will remain just a stom though and not a hurricane Smile
