I bet he does, he suspects that Honey's house is the promised land for strays.
He's wanting a cut of the "good owner" action.

Ivermectin is what is given to dogs - my husband works at a kennel, and that is what they give the strays that come in.

As far as rescues go, most of them will have fosters around the state you are in. I recently *ahem* rehomed a stray that wandered in (from its azzish abusive owners' house to my yard) and I was able to meet the "foster parent" less than halfway to turn him over. It may take a day or two for the rescue to line up a home, but hopefully they will be able to help you quickly!

And as far as feeling bad about the owner goes, please don't. If the animals were really beloved pets and not just potential breeding stock, they would have been better treated in the first place. You are doing those dogs the favor of their lives.

I contacted a bulldog rescue in St joseph, Mo. I am waiting to hear back from them. I was thinking that was only 3 hours from me, but it is much farther, more like 6. The vet said they may not take them until we finish the mange treatment, we shall see. The male gained 4lbs and the female gained 6lbs, just since Wed I have a doggie issue - Page 3 554303

Bravo!
I'm so happy to hear that they'll be in a good home and get to stay together. Their quality of life has just skyrocketed. You must feel great!

A plus - you get to reminisce about the time your neighbor came hunting down her dogs and you held your ground and sent her packing. Very Happy She was like the wicked witch who came to take Toto to have him destroyed.

I have a doggie issue - Page 3 Empty Re: I have a doggie issue

Post by Honey Mon Jun 09, 2008 12:24 pm

Looks like I will be keeping them another week. I am waiting for another call, but I think I will be met in Springfield, which is only 100 miles from here, next weekend.
It sure is quite a bit of work taking care of two, nonhousebroken, puppies. It is about all I am doing it seems. We have named them Phil and Lil. They have more and more energy every day! Phil wants to stay outside and sniff around more often. This morning I had a freak out because I left him in the back of the house, with the door open. I went to check on him and he was gone. I searched around for quite some time, then started to panic, which led to an asthma attack. I got Tory up and she found him in the woods. I was just so afraid he would end up in a place she might see him. She has told some of the neighbors they are valued at $1600 each and has a reward offered (I have not heard an amount though). I guess she gets welfare and the checks are out for June, so she has some money right now.
I also care for some other dogs in the neighborhood. While I was trying to calm down from my asthma attack, I got a call that Chloe(another puppy) had an accident, fallen from a boat and was sucked into the propeller. I freaked out again, but it turned out she is ok and they just wanted me to check on her before her vet appt later today. I have a few other major stress issues right now, so I took a muscle relaxer. I feel much clamer now and my back hurts much less too!
So if I sound loaded when I post today, you will know that I am just really relaxed Sleep

I have a doggie issue - Page 3 Empty Re: I have a doggie issue

Post by Honey Tue Jun 10, 2008 10:12 pm

The drama ramped up again today. It seems that the lady from the rescue posted on a bulldog message board asking for help transporting these dogs. Someone lese heard there were two missing puppies here and tried to help the lady who owned them to get them back. It is all a long story and I am worn out right now, but the rescue people asked us not to give them back and they are protecting our identity. We freaked that we may be found out though, and we do live in the Ozarks. We were worried someone will show up here with a gun, so my hubby just left to drive the dogs to the rescue, about 6 hours away.
The woman who owned the pups is telling all kinds of lies and I have a bad feeling this is not over. Oh and my hubby found out today she has more dogs in the kennels behind the house. We don't know how many, but he saw at least 3 when he took a quick look.We are going to have to let this die down a bit, then turn them in and get the other dogs rescued.
If you are inclinded to pray, my husband could use some for a safe trip. He is planning to drive there, turn around and drive back, then work tomorrow. I know that is crazy, but he says has to do what he has to do.

I've been reading this post from day one, and just have not posted as I was a little too emotional about it... but you can bet, I'll keep good thoughts of not only your hubby, but you too... it's been a horrendous ordeal, but the puppies, well they're winners in the end thanks to you too. I surely hope that this women who claims these puppies doesn't cause you harm or any more grief. What you have done is wonderful. God Bless you Both.

Thanks everyone. Your supoort and prayers mean so much to me and must have worked too!
He made it home less than an hour ago and has now headed out for work.
He and I both have a feeling she may show up here today. I am rather nervous about that. I hate confrontation and she looks like she knows how to fight. I am not a fighter, other than with those I am related to lol. I have actually never really hit anyone in my life, other than one of my sisters. I can yell and argue quite well when I want to, I just hate it and I do have asthma. Tory and I are stuck here today with no vehicles also (another long story). I do have 4 dogs though.
I sent the rescue woman an email and asked her to call me about the other dogs up there. Hubby says he saw 2 for sure. They are in a chain link pen with a tiny dog house and no shade. He said the dog houses are so tiny, he says the dogs must just barely fit in No

Don't you have a gun out there in the middle of nowhere Honey? Keep the doors locked and just don't engage her if does show up. If she wont leave call the cops/ sheriffs/ trooper/ whatever you got out there.

I don't know how to use a gun Embarassed I was raised in the city in Ill. I have only been a country girl for 13 years now and just never thought about a gun. The dogs run all the critters off who don't belong here.
As for locking the doors, I don't even know where the keys are, we have never locked them. Most people don't even know we are down here, unless you know us. No one ever messes with us and our barking dogs.
I decided I am just tired and stressed from this. I think I just got paranoid (I hope lol). I think I will just try to rest and not worry.

Honey- you should learn! I mean not to threaten off your neighbors but you never know when it could come in handy. Chases off vermin. I made my hubby learn to shoot when we lived out in woods. He had no desire but did learn, lol. Never know, coyotes that wont be chased off, a wounded dying animal....
