bookshelves on each side of the fireplace in the living room, 3 five shelf units upstairs...
four shelves in my dining room, but there are a few baskets there too....
two small shelves and a headboard in my bedroom...
and I stack books here and there and behind other books and ...

I used to have tons of books, until I had to move them....three times. Now they have lost their luster, and I own very few, but I am at the library all the time!

Re: Books that came into my house today
I get a little overwhelmed with too many additions at once. It stresses me. Same thing when I have too many sewing projects to attend to. It's something in my character. I think you must be mellower than me kath. I think I'm more stressed.

Me too! The stress and the guilt, it's just too much!
Re: Books that came into my house today
I makes me feel so wealthy to have a nice big stack of TO Be Read books!
I love it..
I moved to MA and back to PA years ago..... during that time, I had to find homes for 25 boxes of books....lol
now I don't keep most novels... and I only have about 800 or so books.. my goal is to keep it under 1000. EAch year I give the ones I purge to the Humane Society Book Sale...
and I use a site where people trade books...it works..
lol

Re: Books that came into my house today
I'm a certified Book-a-holic. I have books in every room of my house and I even keep a novel or two in my car, {who knows when you may get stuck waiting somewhere with nothing but 3 year old Golf magazines?}.
It would be soooooo much cheaper to join the library, but sadly enough I'm too irresponsible. After years of paying late fees and lost book fees I gave up
If I got a haul like kath I would think Christmas had arrived early!
kath can you tell me more about the trading site you belong to?

oh and regarding being mellow? lol comes with age.... its easier to see that it is pretty much all small stuff when you pass 50, I think? ( at least, having been all the other ages.. that seems to be the case for me..)

Me too, got sick of dusting them, moving them, and just plain tripping over them. Rounded them all up, gave a few hundred to the library and now I get them all from the library. the rest got passed along to family, we have a big sharing circle. Altogether I have less then 20 that I keep. I use the library A LOT. Far far cheaper that way. My daughter still has a couple hundred kid books, but as soon as they are outgrown, off they go too.
Re: Books that came into my house today
But what kids of furniture do you have if you have no bookcases???
LOL, I have three tall ones .. five shelf.. upstairs.. built ins on either side of my fireplace, and two in the dining room. You are so right about the dust though..
and cost? I limit myself to 20$ or under a pay.... and stay out of Starbucks, Target etc... It is my reward to me. Then I give them away, or trade them or keep selected ones...
I think that if I had only 20 books left it would give me hives.......

Re: Books that came into my house today
How do you get so many books into your house in one day?
I have over 1000 books (unfortunately for my husband). I read over 5 books a week usually and I have multiple copies of some books. I can be halfway through it before I remember that I have read it. but i still don't remember the ending, so I just keep reading.
I can never have enough books. I have short timers memory (from reading too fast?) so each book is usually brand new until I get halfway through it.

Re: Books that came into my house today
Welcome oregondiver! You remind me of my son... or myself before kids. I love to read but hate getting interrupted mid-book so don't do much of it now. Can't wait til all the kids are in school!
Re: Books that came into my house today
I received an advance copy of The Lace Reader
and I am dying to read it. I am currently reading Not In Kansas Anymore: A Curious Tale of How Magic is Transforming America. Aso very good.

Re: Books that came into my house today
Other than the fact that my babies are crazy insane, things are fine. And no, it's not anything in particular that they're insane about. They're just in the mood to yell and throw food, I think.
Re: Books that came into my house today
Glad all is well with you
I have been popping in nearly every day... usually very early.
Take care
