Could you please explain what this site is and how they can offer them for free?

The site has full editions of selected books and magazines offered by the people who wrote them. Some may be familiar to you and others not. However, I have never downloaded one that wasn't good.

You can download up to 10 books per month, for free. Of course, they have an option to purchase from Amazon (for the hard copies). They also allow you to send ebooks as presents. The first gift ebook is free but all others cost about $4.00.

I have downloaded several books and magazines on graphic design, marketing and things related to my business along with cookbooks and history. They have novels, comics, gaming and a wide variety of subjects. You can go through the whole catalog and put the books you want in your queue but you can only get three per day.

It doesn't cost anything and it is not bothersome at all. If it was, I would have cancelled my membership a long time ago.

Are they audio? Or text on the screen?

They are in pdf format. You can view them in acrobat reader or acrobat. Acrobat reader is free from Adobe.

Do you have to enter a credit card number beforehand, in case you go over your limits? Or is there the option to do that IF you make it that far?

No, absolutely no credit cards are involved to get the free ebooks. If you order a gift of an ebook, then the first one is free but all the others are about three dollars. But to be a registered user, you just sign up and download your three per day.

You're welcome. I was a fanatic at first. Used up my total before the month was out, lol. The books I downloaded were so good on their subject and that is why I kept going back everyday. I should mention some more categories are religion, financial, mystery, sci-fi, science. Some are really large and some are not.

What I do is go through the new additions first. There are usually several pages of those. I pick out what I want and add them to my queue. Then I go to the queue and rearrange them in the order I want to download them. Depending on what I find, I am constantly rearranging! I found some IQ, crosswords and word games. I mean the variety is monstrous!

If you are a book fanatic, you will love this site. It is the least bothersome of this type. I never hear from them at all. However, they will send an email to tell you your downloads are ready (if you want). Other than that, the link sits in my tool bar (I put it there, there is no request from them to do so) and I click on it everyday. I can't say if they will have changes to their policies as this new global thing is recent. I was just there a few days ago and the site was up and running.

I enjoy reading ebooks quite a bit. I find old PDAs make excellent ebook readers too. They are just a bit smaller than a paperback and have backlighting so I can read in bed without waking my wife.

Here is a good one that just went on sale today. This is a pretty old model, but it would work great as an ebook reader.

Both of those sites offer books that are mostly public domain, but they also offer some newer text books and other books that are offered for free by the author.

I never would have thought of using a PDA for that!

I've read ebooks on a pda for years. I love to use uBook as it lets me set the font size. I make it real big, then it has an underline auto scroll, so I can follow and read a book while working out on an elliptical. It lets you set the speed you read at, it's great.

I did the new survey on employment today. One of th womlets was a free audio book. Just thought you'd want to know.
