A Game of Thrones
Anyone read these? Anyone watch it? I'm curious to know if it's the show is the same as the books. I haven't seen the show but I just finished book 1. Waiting on the four book e-book collection from the library to read the rest. I borrowed it on someone recommendation, not thinking I would really like it and was pleasantly surprised.
Re: A Game of Thrones
I'm working on book 2 now, and also have book 3 with me (way too ambitious for this trip). I'm loving them, and yes, the show is the same. We rented them a disk at a time, 2 episodes per disk. The casting is just perfect. SNL did a skit a week or 2 ago that cracked us up. The premise was that besides the guidance of George R R Martin, there's a horny 13 year old boy calling the shots. He'd say "I know just what this scene needs", and they'd show his sketch pad, where he'd drawn a stick figure with huge boobs. LOL There's lots of nakedness, sex and violence.

Re: A Game of Thrones
Are two and three the same size as book 1? I'm thinking that reading the last three in the 7 days allotted by the library is going to be tough. I read fast but..... My luck I will get 50 pages from the end and run out of time, lol.
Re: A Game of Thrones
They're all about the same length. I bought the first 4 as a boxed set. I had nook 1 with me the last time I donated blood and the woman sitting next to me said that there would be 2 more books eventually.

Re: A Game of Thrones
I finished the fourth book and am impatiently waiting Dance of Dragons from the library. My library doesn't have a paper copy and I am 2 on the e-book waiting list. The wait for 6 and 7 will be forever
Re: A Game of Thrones
I just started the 4th, maybe 125 pages in so far. I'm happy that Arya is still alive, but holy cow, how many bazillions of people died in the third book. It was really getting me down.

Re: A Game of Thrones
Yes there was a lot of people dying. I didn't see Robb dying I'm rooting for Arya and Tyrion... and maybe Jamie a little bit too. I'm still 2 on the waiting list, number 6 needs to hit the shelves soon!
Re: A Game of Thrones
I hate not knowing the end, it will probably be 2030 before the last one comes out, lol. Or worse he will go and die before he finishes like The Girl with the Dragon tattoo series.
Re: A Game of Thrones
Is Brienne still alive? I'm rooting for her too right now.

Are you sure you want to know?
................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................I'm not sure, it doesn't look like it from the end of her story. But, it wouldn't be the first time We've been surprised at who is and isn't dead. She's another favorite. I'm holding out hope that 5 begins with one of the Lannister brothers riding in to her rescue.

Re: A Game of Thrones
Well shit. LOL this book 4 kind of sucks. I'm well over 300 pages in and still have no idea where Tyrion has taken himself to.

Re: A Game of Thrones
HBO is not going to be ok with that, considering Peter Dinklage is their Emmy winning actor.

Re: A Game of Thrones
Supposedly, all the missing characters from 4 will be in 5 and the ones that were on 4 will not be in 5. The last chapter in 4 explains that instead of doings a little of all the characters, he chose to do all for a couple...... but there is to be 2 more books so I assume he decided their stories weren't really over yet? I'm dying to watch it, but I can't find anywhere to rent it, other than Amazon, and they want $2.99 an episode. I'm tempted to buy the dvds but I keep telling myself to wait until season 2 is on DVD and buy them together to save a bit of money.
Re: A Game of Thrones
We rented the DVDs at Family Video one at a time. There were only 2 episodes per DVD I think, so 10 episodes altogether. It wasn't very economical, but great entertainment.

Re: A Game of Thrones
We have NO video stores at all. Blockbuster closed down, and the small local ones disappeared a long time ago : ( Redbox is it. I have Netflix streaming, I was going to add the dvds back on but they don't have it.
Re: A Game of Thrones
Just got Dance with dragons on my Nook! I wasn't expecting it for at least another two weeks. I feel a bit bad, when an e book is available you have 3 days to check it out and download it or it goes to the next person. I'm guessing who ever was before me was gone for the weekend and missed out. Oh well, their loss is my gain.... see you in a day or two!

Re: A Game of Thrones
It started of with Tyrion, Jon, and Bran. It takes place at the same time as book 4, just different characters. It's a big one, 1,071 pages.
Re: A Game of Thrones
Brienne is alive!
that said.... man is this author cruel! He kills off favorites left and right.... gives us their story, makes it look like all is good and then bam- they're dead. There isn't even a chapter from the next book. It needs to hurry!

Re: A Game of Thrones
Maybe at some point he was in negotiations with HBO and decided to start writing end-of-season cliffhangers into his books. I agree, he pisses me off. While I'm reading this series, DH has been reading The Hunger Games. I keep asking him if Katniss and Prim are still alive, but tell him if they're not it's OK - everyone in my book is dying so he has to keep adding new characters.

Re: A Game of Thrones
LOL, There sure are a lot of characters to keep track of... and more than once I have had to go back and double check because they all have four different names and they are all weird and are so similar to other ones. It took me the whole chapter to figure out who Reek was in Dance with Dragons, lol.
Have you read the Hunger Games yet?

Re: A Game of Thrones
No, when hubby finishes it I'll read it on his iPad. I only got a few chapters in before my son (and his Kindle) had to go. The timing will be good for me to finish Book 4 of GOT just as he finishes Book 3 of THG.

Re: A Game of Thrones
I broke down and bought season one on Amazon. I was pleasantly surprised that for the most part I like the casting so far, it goes along with how I pictured them (with the exception of Sansa) And I discovered that I had a couple of names wrong in my head. I like Tyrion better than what I thought it was.
I put the Hunger Games on hubby's kindle and he is actually reading it! It's been at least 15 years since he's read a book that did not involve home improvement, lol.
