The subject is Fruitcakes
I know, I know. But my dad honestly does like them. Does anyone know of a great tasting fruitcake or a good deal on a fruitcake? He buys himself the cheapos from the dollar store and actually seems to enjoy them, but I'd like to spoil him.

Re: The subject is Fruitcakes
um, Yes, My Dad loves them, vile, nasty things that they are. I get them here
http://www.collinstreet.com/
They aren't cheap by any means, but They are actually good, and If I like them, a fruitcake lover will go nuts. The DE LUxe is a traditional fruitcake, and comes in a tin and stuff. They aren't located far from where MIL's sister lives, so I make her get them for me when she goes and I freeze them.

Re: The subject is Fruitcakes
We used to send Collinstreet fruitcakes to everyone, assuming they thought we were lame... well until they actually tried them. We ordered one for ourselves first to try and were blown away... they are spendy, but dang, they're really good... chucked full of flavor and pecans.... totally recommend.
Of course, you could buy 22 of them, minumum from the Dollar store and he'd have a years supply... considering he likes them he might not really appreciate a great one

The Collin Street cakes sound good. I also found some made by Women Helping other Women. They come in 1 lb sizes so I could get him a few varieties to try. They actually look very good.

Re: The subject is Fruitcakes
I did end up sending my dad one of the Collin Street Bakery fruitcakes, Erin. My dad loved it. He said he got excited when UPS came to the door and he hadn't ordered anything. He said he could tell that the package was heavy by the way the UPS man was carrying it, and he immediately hoped it was a fruitcake.
I might order us one.
I might order us one.
