book series for child starting kindergarten
So my daughter is starting kindergarten in a few weeks and i thought it would be fun for me to get a book about starting kindergarten. something fun to read to her at night. so a couple people mentioned the junie b jones series becasue it starts off with junie starting kindergarten and now her books are her entering 2nd grade. so i go to barnes and nobles and buy her first book....i should have known by the title, Junie b jones and the stupid stinky bus. But i bought it and read it to her last niight and after the first page I began to make up my own words. I know these are populare books but what a snot nose little grl that junie is and the words, like stupid, and jerk and dumb.....oh my goodness. needless to say i am returning this book tomorrow. does anyone know a great serie for my beautiful little girl to start reading. thanks

Quickly looking, there are these on Amazon. The first link is probably close to what your looking for because its part of a series, I don't think the others are, but they are about going to school for the first time.

The Berenstain Bears books were always fun. And the classics like Clifford, Little Bear and the like. It may sound like I'm in a time warp, but not sure what's out there now.

Re: book series for child starting kindergarten
I can't stand Junie B Jones. I'm trying to remember which books my kids liked. Zoe is only starting first grade so I should KNOW this. But my mind is mush. I'll think on it and get back to you.
Re: book series for child starting kindergarten
We did Junie B, because they are required AR books. Bayley prefered Phoebe FLowers series, but most kids won't.

Re: book series for child starting kindergarten
Start w/ all the "I Can Read" Series.... Junie B Jones, if I can remember right, isn't really recommended for kids until they're in 2nd grade, maybe first.
I know at the library, there's a ton of "See Dick & Jane" books & the series that goes with that. Start small, w/ very few words. Otherwise, the kids will get SO frustrated with reading....

Re: book series for child starting kindergarten
Saige and I have just started the harry potter series. She loves junie B Jones. I hate them, but they read them at school and the kids ALL love her. I can do with out the name calling. She is also a big Amelia Bedelia fan, and I like those too.
As for reading themselves we started with Biscuit and Little Critter books and on to Dr Suess. Some of them are hard but they are familiar so she can usually figure out a word (or nonword, lol) when she gets stuck.

Re: book series for child starting kindergarten
If you're looking for a read-aloud, my kids really loved 'School For Cats' by Esther Averill. It was written in the 1950's so has a really sweet tone that's missing from a lot of modern kid's books.
Re: book series for child starting kindergarten
We have Timothy Goes to School up here which are pretty good. My boys got sick of them pretty quickly though and Devon went into Geronimo Stilton and Sam got into Pokemon Junior. Once they figured out that they didn't have to read the whole book at once they didn't find them daunting at all.
