What are some good ones?

This is the first patio set I have ever had. Everywhere else I lived before there wasn't an area for one. There either wasn't a deck or an even spot of lawn or anything like that. So I am excited to finally have one.

Try the soda pop wines(what we called them as kids) for sure. There are lots more of them than just Boones Farm. I sometimes like Arbor Mist. However, if you really want to try the Purple Passion, don't use Everclear please. Just use vodka. Everclear is uncut alcohol and can dangerous. Only kids use it to make punch for big parties. We didn't call ours Purple Passion, we called it Purple Jesus. that is because if you drink too much you just might see Jesus

I think today I may make a trip to the store and either pick up a bottle of Spumante like Karen suggested, or some Boonesfarm. I won't have my glasses yet to drink it out of...lol I had a couple wine glasses and they ended up getting broken, men aren't too gentle with fragile glass. Everytime Kris would reach into the cupboard to get something he wasn't careful not to ding my glasses, and then I had none..lol I will have to place the new ones in an area where he doesn't bother with that often.

atually purple passion is sold at the liquer store, its already mixed up. it comes in a 4 pack.

and Purple passion and boones farm were what I drank in HS- although I did love me some tequila or jack.

and yes, I drank in HS. not much- I actually never did the the drinking every weekend thing. I enjoyed driving everyone around more. I was 15 and didnt have my licence, but was safer than the drunks. LOL

Of course, there were weekends I would drink, and once I got married at 18, I was legal. (BR was 21) so I could drink anywhere.

Now, if I want a drink I actually go buy boones farm, mikes hard ice tea is hard to come by and I usually get miagraines from drinking anything else.

It was never my husband, but the kids who did the most damage to my collection of glasses. It was always a big deal for them to have a drink from a fancy glass once in a while. I always had a heck of a supply of drink umbrellas and we had straws and drink stirrers that we'd collected through the years.

One box of drink umbrellas from Oriental Trading Company lasts approximately one generation, in case you were wondering.

we were getting ready for a crawfish boil one weekend, got the yard cleaned up, and I'd put them umbrella in the table, (half the time it stayed IN the table, I'd always forget to take it out) and I opened it to get rid of spiders and such. a high wind came, and grabbed he umbrella, busting the glass in my 3X6 table ALL over the lawn. that was 2 years ago, there is STILL glass out there.. you cant vacum the damn lawn...

If I ever get another table with glass, I will put a plastic film or tint (for car windows) under it. to hold it together incase that happens again.

I don't know if you have Woody's or Mike's Hard Lemonade or Cranberry or Pomegranate down there, but those are two of my favourites when I'm not in a beer mood.

Wished you lived down the road, because I would be happy to dump a boatload of wine glasses, snifters and other fancy dancy classes on you! Back in the day (CA and MI) we used to entertain alot and had way too many glasses... within this last year, I packed 90% of them up and stashed them in the attic... which is where they will remain until we die and someone has to clean this house out :-)

the best investment I ever made was plastic wine glasses from Target...never have to worry about them breaking and are safe to be near the pool or jacuzzi. They also had matching martini and margarita glasses that I should invest in...

I saw a thing on TV years ago about unbreakable crystal wine glasses made by Schott Zwiesel. Instead of lead crystal, they use titanium crystal. Looks just as nice, but doesn't scratch in the dishwasher or break when you drop them.

I just recieved that Sangria glass and pitcher set from amazon and it's very nice, an excellent deal for $19.99. Comes with a pitcher (I think it's like 72 oz) and 6 sangria glasses.

I might get one, Kelly! It looked nice. I have one nice glass pitcher but it's blue and the rest are Tupperware that just looke dated.

Those are really cool, Karen! I did a search and found that Amazon had them not too long ago, but a head honcho from Wine Spectator named this glass (I'm referring to the Claret (bBurgundy) glass) his ONLY tasting glass and they sold out.

So one of the reviews compared this to Riedel stemware, which I found really interesting. The cruise ship we'll be on in Sept has a Riedel class that lets you see what a difference the correctly shaped glass can make with wine appreciation and we will probably take that class when offered.

It's definitely worth it Lori. There is a seam that runs up the front of the pitcher, but it doesnt really detract from the look. The pitcher is bigger than I thought it would be and not only was it $19.99 as I mentioned before, but it was also free super saver shipping if your order was over $25.00.

Those glasses are cool Karen..my dog had a fit when I clicked on the link and the guy was tinging the glass..lol They are pricey, but in the long run would be nice to have if they are not easily breakable..

Lori, I forgot to mention in case for some reason you decide to buy it, it cannot be used for hot liquids. (I am assuming that washing it in the dishwasher might not be a good idea because of this, so I washed them by hand.)

They are break resistant, not unbreakable.....they shatter when they meet concrete.......

I have a beautiful glass picture (given to me by a friend that had one too many pictures). I'd make tea (I boil water and use bags). Even though I thought I cooled it in the pan, it was too hot when I poured into the pitcure... yep, it cracked :-( Plastic is a good replacement LOL

The same company that the pitcher and sangria glass set came from (Libbey) also has sets of margarita, wine, and martini glasses. I think each set is priced under $25.00 Just more things to add to my amazon wish list....

BTW.. Boonesfarm makes a bottle of Blue Hawaiian, and while not a true Blue Hawaiian, the flavor is generally the same. I got a bottle of it today and tried it and it's pretty good. Which means this weekend I will have all of the ingredients together to make some real Blue Hawaiians. I love the coconutty/pineappley flavor, it's yummy...

thats okay dee..everybody has different taste. To me, wine tastes like I would imagine paint thinner would taste like, I tried quite a few and didn't care for any of them at all. Maybe my palate isn't sophisticated enough, but to me wine tastes like fermented ick. I like non alcoholic drinks that aren't sweet. When it comes to alcohol i just can't drink anything that tastes like it already spoiled. I don't have drinks often enough to worry about the calories and/or sugar of those 2 drinks that I would have..so that isn't a factor really...

Hey Dee, since you drink white wine could you or anyone else answer me a question? I am thinking about making and trying some Sangria for next weekend, but I am not sure if I want to make a regular Sangria (red wine) or if I want to make Sangria Blanco (white wine). I wonder what the difference is between the two as far as taste goes. My SIL knows that I don't care so much for straight wine, but she seems to think the combination of fruit, wine and carbonation will be something more up my alley.

Honestly Kelly, I don't make or drink Sangria... but in the day when we lived in San Diego, perhaps I did... but I've gotten beyond the fruity drinks, sweet wines... I'm strickly a dry white wine drinker these days.... a California Chardonay being my pick. But I'll bet someone else will come up with a recipe or suggestion.....

When we first moved to San Diego (way back in '74) I did buy Sangria in a bottle (actually dropped a bottle on the gold shag in our rental apartment!)... graduated to burgandys and zinfindels (never white zinfindel which is nothing than a rose, too sweet), and then gravitated to whites... Chablis, then Chardonay...call me a wine snob, I guess. I do like a glass of red from time to time, but it tends to be heavy and put me to sleep.

Kelly, I don't make Sangria but I used to have friend who always made an awesome one that I did drink. She used red wine which I AM not fond of.. so I guess my vote is to go with the red wine because it tastes good after you get all the fruits mixed in.

As for the broken glasses.. I only use plastic for the back deck or parties out there. There are some beautiful plastic glasses these days.. I have them for margaritas, wines, ice cream sodas, etc.. and we don't entertain much but they come in handy all the time!

I am on a Moscato kick...Barefoot is a good cheap brand
