When we sold the old house and moved here in March, we only made $17,000. because we still owed on the old house. We paid $15,000. down on the new house and saved $2,000. in case things arose. We went to a local furniture store that was having a clearance sale. For $1600. we were able to get the kitchen table and chairs, (which had been delivered a while ago) and a couch, and two recliners. We have been waiting since we moved in for the couch and recliners. They finally delivered them today...Now that theyre here I am motivated to paint the livingroom. But we have to wait for taxes to come back because we don't want to spend too much right now. Everything needs to be repainted the ceilings, walls and trim, that's a lot of paint and painting supplies. I think I am going with a Meditteranian theme..the furniture is dark brown leather...the paint color we picked (you could either call it dark tan or light brown...we plan on getting a ceiling fan/light for in there because the way the windows open you can't use an air conditioner. They have some really cool looking ceiling fan/lights into Lowes..I dunno, I will look around online and see what different looks that I like and try to incorporate them in the room. I have to remember to take before and after pics this time...

You got a lot for $1600! Good shopping!

It sounds like you're going to be busy for quite some time working on the house. Outdoors and now indoors. I hate painting with a burning passion. I even hate when my husband paints because he just is not careful! It drives me nuts.

We got an awesome deal for the furniture. The store has a "basement clearance sale" every year in FEB& MAR and it's usually up to 70% off. We were able to get a really good deal. You just have to check and make sure there isn't anything wrong with it. For example, the kitchen table and chairs, on one of the chairs there was a crack in the wood, I made sure that they were going to replace that chair before buying the set (and they did). I hate painting. It takes forever to do it if you want it to look nice. Standing on a ladder all day cripples me, after standing on the ladder painting all day, the next day I can barely walk. But I am motivated to see it done, and its not going to be like painting in the other house. There I was painting to make improvements to sell, here I am painting to enjoy the results of it for myself.

I only paint under duress, not that I cannot do it, I HATE IT. I don't do ladders though, ever, so I just use a roller and a long pole.....

Stay away from Hunter fans, I have replaced 4 since we moved into here less than a year ago, they have gone to hell in the last few yeas.. Whisper something and harbor breeze are good, Quantum is the best. Make sure you get the right size too, or having it is pointless. For example, my livingroom is 25 X22, so We have a 6 foot fan, but the bedroom is only 18 X20, and we only have a 5 foot fan....and you can absolutely tell the difference. don't undersize it.....

bigger rooms need 5-6 blades, smaller ones can get away with 4 blades.

I agree bizzeedee, this year our goal is to get the livingroom done and JJ's room painted/new bedding for him and some small do it yourself repairs (a broken window latch, etc) I don't know what we will tackle next spring/summer yet, but I won't worry about that until then. I am just wanting to get the livingroom done because the new furniture looks out of place with the mint green paint with maroon stenciling (yuck). Our old couch actually matched it (it was a green/blue paid with narrow maroon stripes) that worked out odd enough.

Thanks for the info about ceiling fans erin..this room should be okay witha 5 ft from what you are describing..

I'm the odd man out. I love painting. You can make something look brand new and cover up all the stains and imperfections. It makes me feel clean.

I used to paint yearly but with the kids it's hard. I'm a slow painter. Now I just do it every few years.

I almost got that one, but DH wanted the other, and the hardware is pewter/brushed nickel. All of our hardware is brushed Nickel.....
I have this one, in Pewter....

The name of the color I've picked for the livingroom is Mediterranean Mocha.. atleast I think I am settled on that color. I will go pick up more swatches tomorrow just to compare and be sure.

Love the furniture! I wanted Leather, but it is too hot here most of the time...you stick to it. Is the table a normal or counter height? I like it!

With the color of the furniture you could take any direction you wanted to with the paint color. Which company makes the Mediterranean Mocha?

Thanks erin, the table is regular table height.. I love it..it was kind of different with the two different colored woods. Both the table and livingroom set are Ashley furniture. Yes...lol we will probably stick to the furniture when its hot..But I wanted something that didn't absorb dirt and odors easily....we have a little time during the year when its warm here, maybe I will just put a throw on the furniture when it's warm like that. Hubby and I both liked the leather. He actually wanted black, but I told him that it reminded me too much of bachelor furniture, but I love the look of brown leather..

Lori, I believe the Mediterranean Mocha sample card was a Valspar paint..

I like the leather... hopefully the dog isn't invited to sit on it... nails will do damage.

Personally for paint color, I'd go bright... wood floors, brown leather, I'm thinking mocha walls... too much neutural... how about a peach, or even some shade of green (like sage?)
