A lovely gesture
I just got an e-mail from my sister in law today. She's a mom to two kids already and they are expecting another in June. This baby was unplanned and a complete surprise, but very welcome. They'd given away all their baby gear years ago, so some friends had been talking about having a baby shower for them even though this wasn't their first child. This was the e-mail she sent:
Of course, I know nothing about the charity they chose since it's part of the outreach of a church in their area of the country. I'll be researching it a bit and/or chosing a charity that I'm more familiar with. But I love the idea that they're choosing to have a shower for babies in real need rather than this child which I can assure you will want for nothing. It really touched my heart.
Greetings!
As you probably know, Bill and I are expecting a baby boy the first week of June. He is a wonderful surprise and blessing from God! We have been fortunate and blessed in so many areas of our lives that when a baby shower was mentioned to us we decided to forgo one for our baby and instead have one for other babies in need. While our hearts go out to all the victims of the recent earthquakes in Haiti and Chili, we have a specific connection in Haiti.
Through our homeschooling we came into contact with Pastor Joas who is helping hurt, homeless, sick and hungry babies, children, and adults in Haiti. He is in desperate need of supplies to help them. The best way for us to help them is through money donations. We are hoping that if you are thinking about a gift for our baby, you will, instead, consider donating to Haiti babies. If you wish to do so you could donate by sending a check or money order to Hearts of Hope. Hearts of hope is a charity that keeps nothing for the workers (no overhead or salaries) and sends 100% of your donation to Pastor Joas (minus a small wiring fee).
We have attached a Hearts of Hope news letter that speaks of Pastor Joas and his work. If you want to donate, please send a check or money order, in any amount, to:
Hearts of Hope
c/o Dean and Mary Ewing,
P.O. Box 273
Elberta, Alabama 36530.
Please be sure and designate in the memo/notes line “For the Hunteman’s.” This will insure the donation goes to Pastor Joas instead of one of the other missions that Hearts of Hope supports.
May the peace of Christ be with you,
Amber and Bill Hunteman
