What I learned on the weekend....
Whenever I go anywhere with family, regardless the circumstance, be prepared with an extra change of clothes for the kids (and myself).
We went to my Grandmother's burial in Antigonish (2 1/2 hours away) on Saturday. Afterwards, we went to my cousin's house (on the beach) for a visit and supper. Well my parents left after we ate to go pick up ducks for Zach and Ceilidh (Zach had been asking for a duck since before Easter), but we stayed at my cousin's house since the kids were having a lot of fun. All the kids wanted to go to the beach, so all the adults decided to go with them. The water is not warm enough for swimming (and won't be for at least another month), but the kids wanted to collect rocks and sea shells. Well the decided to make a sandcastle after awhile, and Ceilidh wanted a moat around her's. She kept wandering in the water deeper and deeper each time hoping the deeper water would not disappear when she pored it in the moat (didn't work, LOL). Anyway, I told her not to go past her knees because I didn't want her completely soaked, and I didnt' want to get wet myself. Well she ended up falling in the water, and started panicing. I went to the edge to tell her to calm down and just stand up (she was knee deep). Zach decided to be the hero and go rescue her. Sure enough, he falls down. Well he doesn't know enough to stand up yet (he wasn't panicing tho, just floating face up), so I had to go in, sneakers and all. LOL. When my cousin realized both kids were down, he came running into the water as well to pick up Ceilidh while I got Zach. The poor kids were FREEZING!! Of course I didn't prepare for them to go "swimming", so I didn't have a change of clothes for them. We had to wash and dry their clothes. Luckily my parents were gone longer then expected, or we would have had to stop at Walmart to get them clothes. LOL.
Who would have thought going to a burial in May, would mean the kids would take a dip in the Norththumberland Straight. LOL. I now know to be prepared for everything!!
Oh, while we were there, they mentioned a whale washed up on shore about a month ago, and it was still there. Of course my cousins (who weren't from Antigonish) and my sisters and myself wanted to see it. LOL. Man was that nasty, but so cool to see!!

Re: What I learned on the weekend....
Yep, my kids are 20 and 11 and I always bring a change of clothes for everyone, especially if it is a "dressup" occasion.
I totally cannot imagine having to wait till june/july to swim, we have been swimming since mid march....
Bet they had fun playing in the sand.

Re: What I learned on the weekend....
ack! sorry about your grandmother
But yes, anytime I go with kids I have extra food, change of clothes, change for YOU, a wooden spoon (for threats or more....), drinks, benadryl, first aid kit, color books, or dvd's, a second sippy cup, lots of baby wipes, enough diapers for 2 days, if its a 3 hour or more trip, pillows, small blankets, and a harness for Bow.

Re: What I learned on the weekend....
Thanks Chelle.
I never think anymore to bring a change of clothes. I made sure to bring sippy cups, snacks, toys, etc.. for the drive, but never thought about a change of clothes. The kids weren't going to the graveyard, so they weren't dressed in fancy clothes. If they got dirty, I didn't really care since we would just be going home after leaving my cousins house anyway and they would have been asleep by the time we got home (I really should have at least packed their PJs, LOL). I never even thought that they would go in the water considering the temperatures. LOL. From now on, I really do have to pack for any possible thing. LOL.
