Re: My sick dog another UPDATE
I don't know. I feel so lost, I went from a super high (that everything was okay) to a super low.
We do not let our dogs out unsupervised or let them run loose. Sam did get out on Gary Tuesday without him knowing it. Gary had brought them in from a walk and didn't get the door shut all the way. Sam got out and then came back in. Gary found him wet and couldn't figure out why. After investigating found the door open. But Sammy was already sick before that.
I don't know...I'm just praying that this med that she going to give him, he will respond to.

I so wish, but there was none left. I still wonder about that damn Walmart dog food.
But I don't get it, him and Holly are always together..she isn't sick. They eat from the same bowl too.

Re: My sick dog another UPDATE
I know my brother's dog got very sick from buying generic dog food years ago. You just never know what is in the stuff, and it can change what companies make it, just as a store brand can now, and you'd never know it. Some dogs and cats just changing what they eat to something new can start their intestines going.

Re: My sick dog another UPDATE
Okay...Sam is home!
The vet called this morning to come get him. She said he was NOT happy there, and she wants to see if he will start eating for us. They have had to put a muzzle on him for anything they have had to do. He has an attitude (that's the cocker in him) when he is well. He didn't mind them getting him out of the cage, but after that, they were weary of him..lol He even chewed his IV out last night.
She said that had he gotten antifreeze, that he would not be getting better he would be getting worse, and she seen he was getting better from even yesterday. He drank for them today, but he wouldn't eat, and she said that might be because he wasn't happy and missed us. She wants us to feed him boiled chicken and rice for a few days to see if he would eat.
She is still concerned about his blood work, but she said they may level out once he gets home & back to his normal routine.

Re: My sick dog another UPDATE
Whoo-hoo! I'm so happy for you that he's home and improving. And I'm so relieved it wasn't antifreeze. Congratulations!
Re: My sick dog another UPDATE
I'm glad he's coming home. I hope the familiar surroundings will help speed up the process. Good Luck!
Re: My sick dog another UPDATE
He must be happy being back home again. I'm sure you're both relieved. I hope he perks up and improves really fast. And tell hubby NO MORE on the cheapo dog food!

I've already put my foot down.
I boiled Sam some chicken and got him to eat some. He didn't want anything to do with the rice though. All he wants to do is drink. I have set the bowl up and only limiting him to a little bit once in a while. I dont' want to get him to throwing up again.
Poor thing laid down and went to sleep and was snoring so loud, I thought it was Gary.
Gary is driving me nuts though, "is he going to be all right, why is he doing that, why is he doing this, why didn't they do that"...and on and on. He got a bath when we first got him home (he was a mess), and Gary dried him off, and then took him outside for a small walk, then wanted to know why he was sleeping so soundly. Well duh, he's been sick and I'm sure he's weak. He isn't going to feel like jumping and going like he usually does right away.
Thank you for all your well wishes, I so truely appreciate each and every one. I hope he will improve and be back to himself before long. The vet did give me her email addy and her home number to call her if anything came up.

Re: My sick dog another UPDATE
Oh, I forgot to tell you all this. When we picked him up this morning they put us in a room to talk to the vet.
I have had this thing with Sam since he was a puppy. I taught him to "sing". While we were waiting, I said Sam can you still sing for me? He started in with throwing his head back and letting it rip. It's like a low howl that he does..over and over. One of the girls outside the door said who's singing...and he started again, they all laughed and said it was good to hear him "sing"..lol

How sweet! I bet that made you feel so good to hear him sing.
If he won't eat the plain rice, save the water that you boiled the chicken in and make the rice with that.

Re: My sick dog another UPDATE
The rice is to stop diahrea, it works for people too. If using the chicken water makes him eat it, that would be a good move. Great idea Karen.

That's what I did, and he wouldn't have anything to do with it....can't say I blame him, I don't like it either.

Re: My sick dog another UPDATE
I like it, but I make it with chicken stock that's been boiled down to where it's very flavorful, and I add butter and salt which probably wouldn't be good for him.
Re: My sick dog another UPDATE
I am so sorry that I did not see this before, but I am so grateful to read that he is doing better and is home with his family again. I will keep him and you in my thoughts and hope that he recovers 100%!!
Re: My sick dog another UPDATE
I was going to suggest just that karen. or put beef bullion cubes in there.
I usually save the water that I boil a roast in, freeze it and use it to make our rice.
I am so glad he is home!!!

Re: My sick dog another UPDATE
I wouldn't put bullion on it unless you ok it with the vet. The salt and 'extras' may not agree with his touchy stomach right now.

He may eat some rice later on after he gets to feeling a bit better. I hand fed him the chicken, and didn't give him a whole lot at first. I offered him some rice in my hand and he turned his head away. He loves chicken anyway, and I knew if he would eat anything that is what it would be.

Me too. He won't eat alot at a time, but that is okay. As long as he takes a few bites at a time I am happy.

Re: My sick dog another UPDATE
Sam is going to go back to the vet today. He won't eat. He eats maybe a few bites of chicken and that is it. She had us give him some Pepto last night. He doesn't act too bad, he lays and sleeps, but will get up and move around. She said there is something we are missing. Gary is taking him back over today.
I am going with my mom and step dad today. He has to have surgery and I am going to sit with mom. They found a blockage in the kidney, and do not know what it is....please keep him in your thoughts as well. If all this bad luck doesn't stop soon, I am about at my wits end.

I am so sorry that life has been so rough. I'm pulling for you, though. Things will get better soon.
