Re: My sick dog another UPDATE
I called the vet this evening when I was on lunch.
The "nurse" told me that he had had some blood in his stool today. She said the vet said that as badly irritated as his intestines are he was not surprised. He has to stay again tonight for more IV's. She told me that he wasn't any worse today. She said they vet would be back in later tonight to check on him.
I forgot to tell yall yesterday that they found some gastrointoritis as well.
Please keep him in your thoughts for me..I so appreciate it!

Re: My sick dog another UPDATE
An update.
When we called this morning, they said he had throwed up and had blood in it. She told Gary that it wasn't good.
I called the vet that we usually go to and talked with her. She asked me how he knew it was pancreatitis. I told her he just felt of Sam and took into concideration what we had told him. She asked me if he had done blood work. No, he hasn't. She asked what he was doing for him, and I told her IV & antibiotics. She told me that there are some cases that are an easy fix while others can be more complicated.
After getting off the phone with her and telling Gary what she said, he wanted me to call her back and ask if she would take Sammy if we went and got him. She said yes. I asked her about this vet and of coarse she isn't going to say anything bad, she just said he had been around for a while, and she didn't have any reason to take her animals to him.
So without calling the one where he was we just showed up. Surprise!
He did not have a continuous IV as I was under the impression. She showed me what she said he threw up, to me it looked like his diarreah he has had. So I am not even sure he had thrown up, I don't know if she had seen him do it or not. They hadn't even cleaned the cage, and it had been two hours since we had called her to check on him. We took him outside and he peed and peed and then some more. He was so glad to see us.
He looked so much more perkier today than he did Wednesday. We took him to the other vet office, and she wasn't there (she had a doctors appointment herself, she recently had surgery) and we knew that, but she had left instructions. She will be back at 3 and the girls said she would call us when she examined him and got the bloodwork. The vet tech said depending on what she finds we may be able to bring him home for a trial run. She also told us that just because the stool was dark, doesn't mean that it had blood in it.
What really pissed me off, after I looked at the sheet she (at the first vet office) had given me as a bill, it she had written "declined bloodwork". We did not decline anything, he never asked us about doing bloodwork. He did x-rays, why would we not want bloodwork. I didn't see it until after I had left.

Re: My sick dog another UPDATE
Oh I hate people who call themselves professional and then take advantage of people who are upset, and will do anything to make things right. I would go back and demand the xrays. You pay for them they are yours. I wonder if they even took them.

Re: My sick dog another UPDATE
I hope you get much better treatment for him Buzznut. Our news did an expose of sorts on emergency vet clinics last night and most of the follow up comments are just nightmares. Wishing you the best.
Re: My sick dog another UPDATE
Oh that's awful! Why wouldn't they do the blood work? That makes no sense. It's not as if they wouldn't make money off of it, and it could help your puppy so much!
Re: My sick dog another UPDATE
OMG! that sooo sucks! I would demand the xrays, and wouldnt pay the bill until they had a few very good explinations!!!
I hope they can fiqure it out and will take better care of him!
some people just have no compassion at all.

Re: My sick dog another UPDATE
Okay..good news!!!!
Pancreatitis has been ruled out (from a blood test). She said he has gastroenteritis. She wants to keep him there tonight and give more fluids and antibiotics, and with a possiblility of him coming home tomorrow!!

This is a pic of Sam. He really needed a trim in that pic.
This is a pic of Holly..she has brown eyes, but for some reason they are blue in the pic. Can you tell where her favorite spot is?? She was under the covers on a cold morning..crazy dog.

Re: My sick dog another UPDATE
Well guys, I just got a call from the vet. It isn't good news. She done a CPL to check the pancreatic enzymes. That was normal. She called to ask me if he may have gotten overheated. Which he hasn't, he goes for a walk twice a day, and has for 7 years. It wasn't hot Tuesday it was raining. She said his bloodwork is off the charts. His glucose is low, his creatin is high, and other things are all messed up. She asked me if he could have gotten into anything like antifreeze. She is going to give him some medicine and see if he responses to that. I told her that he was so much more perkier than he was Wednesday, and she said given that, she wouldn't think it was antifreeze, because he would be getting worse.
She said if it was antifreeze, there isn't any more they can do. I swear we can not catch a break from bad news at all.
