What is this world coming to??

This week a couple were found murdered in the next county over from me. It is a very rural county with not many places to work or shop. Alot of the residents come to my county (which isn't too much better off) to shop etc. One of their daughters found them. It is unheard of for this type of thing to happen in this county. Although about three years ago, another couple was murdered a few miles from where this couple lived. That murder trial has been thrown out of court a few times due to police screwing some things up. In another county about 25 miles from me (our county joins up with it) it houses the state capital and it is common place for news of a murder there, but not around here. The whole county where this murder took place is on pins and needles. In the link I posted, if you scroll down and read the comments, an adopted son of the male that was murdered, mentioned that it was premeditated. The state police has been in and out of our store today for some reason, I'm sure it is related. The couple looks familiar to me, and I am sure our paths have crossed somewhere since both counties are so small.

I just can not understand what the purpose is to take someone elses life. I understand there is alot of it due to drugs etc, I just wish I had answers to understand. This has bothered me so much the last few days, and I don't know why. Maybe it is because it hits close to home??

It;s sad, My kids school coach is under indictment right now. for "innappropraite behavior with a Student". I read the indictment online, reads like porn..

It's crazy what some people do. Burglaries-gone-wrong for prescription drugs are increasing at an alarming rate. I also think some people are just plain evil. I don't believe in the devil, but I believe that evil lives in some people, either because of faulty wiring or crimes committed against them.

We had an unsolved crime in our state for many years when a pair of downstate hunters disappeared. It was like 18 years later that a waitress in a bar where the whole thing started decided to talk. The hunters had been beaten to death by a pair of ornery local brothers who then fed their bodies to the pigs to dispose of them. It was truth that was stranger than fiction, and witnesses would not say a word for years because they feared retaliation from the brothers.

It's everywhere, I live outside Syracuse whee someone is shot, stabbed or beaten at least daily, usually shot and involving children. It's truly disgusting. Last year a little girl was murdered and raped by her step brother. Social Services had been called on the family no less than a dozen times, there were over 100 cats in the house, chickens, garbage, the girl stold food out of garbage cans at school- she stunk. Social Services did nothing. A few months ago in the town I grew up in a 12yr old got his fathers gun and shot him in the head with it while he slept on the couch. Teachers and religious heads molesting children it's disgusting.

For a while, Lexington KY had the distinction of having the highest murder rate per capita of any city in the world. Recently, that's dropped down a bit. But Lexington and Louisville still have some of the highest per capita violent crime rates in the country. It's higher than New York. Almost as high as L.A. They rate 19th and 21th on the list of the most violent US cities with a population of 250,000 or larger. Lexington has a higher per capita rate of rape than L.A., and Louisville has a higher per capita murder rate.

What's strange is that Kentucky has the 44th lowest violent crime rate in the nation. Apparently all our criminals prefer to live in the cities.

This reminds me of my neighbors daughter who left her mothers apartment several years ago to buy cigarettes. She just disappeared. Her dad and her step mom brought in a phychic, who thought she would be found around water. They searched both lakes in the area but found nothing. They have a person of interest but no evidence, and some have said that is what this person did with her, fed her to the pigs. Who knows, nothing has been found.

We have one here that is several years old, 8 years this summer.
4th of July a 4yo girl went missing from her bedroom, 3 days later they found her body on the Island. It hit me kinda hard because it was in the next town. The little girl was the exact same age as Bay, and a good friend found her while working. He has never been the same. They have still not found the sicko who killed her, but the rumors are anything from a drug deal gone bad to the Mom sold her for crack. Will never know probably.
I know I am psycho paranoid about my kids for a reason.

I seen that on TV. He was in med school..makes you stop and think doesn't it? I heard that they caught him from cell phone records, and his girlfriend is saying he was set up. Does she have her head in the sand or is there more to it?

I saw that too, very creepy. It is especially hard to believe when it is someone you know.

I am betting there is more to it, or he is not the person she thought he was, people can have dark sides.

OMG! Did your brother catch creepiness vibes from him? I've always been in terested in this, because I get feelings sometimes like I know I want to stay far away from some people. I don't know if I have a guardian angel, natural instincts, or if it's all imagination. So far, nobody I've come across has turned into a murderer. At leasr not a known murderer.

He says he was no more weird than anyone else. I don't know him well enough to say, can't even say I have ever had a conversation with him but I know exactly what you mean Lori... some people just set of my radar in a way I can't explain. The news here is doing all sorts of interviews with family, friends and former teachers that all say he is the nicest guy in the world and no way he would do this. His GF seems to think he is great and has been framed.... I don't believe her, Drew Peterson managed to bag a couple GFs too.... I don't give much weight to stupid girls.

We have had a few murders here. But we have LOTS of crack heads.

My MIL just turned in a suspected child moletser. The 3 yo told a few things that NO THREE year old should know. BAD things. Things as a married woman I wont even say. As of yesterday they (the girl and a brother) are in protective child custody. Unfortunatly, it took my SIL throwing a fit and threating to go herself (she doesnt work there, ) to the cops and to the guys house (we all went to school with him), and taking care of it, to get her and a co-worker to go. the coworker had a warrent for a speeding ticket, and MIL got the info 2nd hand, and is a chickenshit. She was scared she would be sued for slander and loose her job if the daycare found out she told. I told her ( I found out cause SIL called me when she found out.) that aside from ME going with SIL, with BR and his brothers (we ALL went to school with him), I would turn her ass in for being an accessory. But she is so scared she is going to loose her job. And even though you cant FIRE her for it, you can always fire someone for something...

You should tell her she is more likely to be in trouble for not reporting it. She is required to report anything like that.

That's what I was thinking.

What ticks me off is that even when you turn people in, a lot of the time very little is done about it. I hate it when pedophiles and violent criminals get a slap on the wrist instead of a real punishment.

Drew Peterson sickens me. He lives not far from where my Mom did a few years ago, I actually used to drive past his house when I would visit her. And to think that he killed his one wife in the bath tub, and then Stacy goes missing.... He got engaged to another 23 yr old recently. Is she suicidal? Really? I have heard rumors that she has already left him, but who knows. I do know that one of the families is suing him for a wrongful death suit. I hope they take him to the cleaners. ERRR

Oh I told her that. whats sad is it is documented. CPS has BEEN to their house many times. The kds always come in dirty and hungry. The cops KNEW the name, and were glad someone came forward. They were ticked because it took this long. I credit my SIL. when MIL was told it, she told SIL, SIL mmediatly took her to the cops.
But MIL was also told she would be sued, would loose her job etc. and sad to say, she just isnt that bright. She belives anything someone tells her.

My MIL got chosen to sit on a jury where there was a young girl involved. It sounds a lot like what you describe, Chelle, because when the case got started, MIL could not believe the matter-of-fact way that this little girl described things. And MIL knew it was going to be a horrific case, but also just knew that she wouldn't get chosen to sit on the jury because she knew the family, she had given food to them, etc. So she gets seated on the jury. Which ended up being a good thing for the prosecution. I think I would have cried through the entire testimony. It pretty much scarred her for life, too, she never would give any details. It's hard to believe the things some people do to kids. Their own kids. Treating them like they're disposable and less than human.

Did anyone see Oprah Monday? I got just a little bit on my lunch hour. It had Lisa Ling on there who done a report on child porn. It was in Florida, there was one tape that she was watching and it almost made her sick to watch. From the little bit I caught of the show it was very bad. They showed a map of Florida with all the sites that was known porn, and almost all of Florida had a red dot. That is just Florida I can't imagine what other states have as well. I think it is very sickening and can not understand why people would want to abuse any child in any way.

as the days progress I am getting more and more information. But they did find out today that there is a case, there has been abuse and apploud my SIL for what she did. She heard one small thing that MIL repeated to her, MIL had heard it from a worker that day, and she MADE MIL go to the Police. MIL wouldnt go with out one of the other workers who had been told some stuff by the girl in conversation. But, if not for my SIL they wouldnt have went to the grls actual caregiver and got more of the story. I am literly sick to my stomache. I cant stop crying now, and just got out of the shower. I am litelry sick. I knew this guy. Hubby went to schoola nd played ball wth him all his life. My inlaws knew his parents and thought the world of them. His mom died about a month ago. I sincerly hope that he is walkng through a parking lot and someones brakes fail. I really do. Prison is NOT the place for him. and a slap on the wrist is SURE as hell not the thing he needs.

I would like to see the trial. I want - just once, to see justice done. I know that my kind of justice wont be done. I dont belive in prison and rehabilitation. I belive in casteration, death by electrocution, being left alone with the victems and jumper cables and a battery.

I hear ya Chelle, and I know that if someone ever did something to one of my kids, and took away their right to be a CHILD, the only judge and jury would be for me. I would do some bad crazy stuff to them.

It's so creepy to see them on tv and think 'OMG he looks like he could live next door'. Or 'if I saw them in a store I would never know they were capable of such crimes'.

But, I am Italian, and have that sixth sense about people. Someone could be the nicest person, and I will tell my husband I really don't want to get to know them. I don't always know why, but my radar goes up. Sometimes it's obvious down the road why I got that feeling. Sometimes it's not, but I trust there is something, and I don't NEED to find it out.

I tell my kids to always listen to their gut about things like that. Someone who's an OK person isn't going to be offended if they say they'd rather wait for the next elevator than ride alone with someone they don't know. And it might save their life.

Bnut has a weird sense about people, she used to tell me some people were "dark", and others were not...but i agree, if your gut tells you something is wrong, follow your gut, it is NEVER wrong.
